Campgrounds near Florida, New York
Florida is a small village in Orange County, New York, in the Hudson Valley about 60 miles northwest of Manhattan. The area sits between the Highlands of northern New Jersey and the Shawangunk foothills, giving RV travelers access to state parks, Appalachian Trail crossings, and quiet farm country within a short drive of the village.
Campground options range from full-service RV parks to primitive state-park sites. Black Bear Campground on Wheeler Road is the closest option, offering full-hookup RV sites year-round. Wawayanda State Park sits just across the New Jersey line and offers rustic camping near Wawayanda Lake. KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City sits along the Neversink River near Cuddebackville, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm in Sussex, NJ operates as a family-oriented RV resort on a working farm.
Camp Wyanokie provides a more primitive, hike-in style experience in the Wyanokie Highlands of northern New Jersey. Together these options cover most trip styles, from big-rig full hookups to tent-and-trail base camps.
Things to do near Florida, NY
Hiking is the main draw. Wawayanda State Park has more than sixty miles of marked trails plus a 19.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail, with the climb up Wawayanda Mountain offering wide valley views. Camp Wyanokie sits near the Wyanokie Highlands trail network, popular for day hikes to rocky overlooks.
Water recreation centers on Wawayanda Lake, where largemouth and smallmouth bass, trout, pickerel, and landlocked salmon are all present. The Neversink River next to KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City is used for kayaking, tubing, and fly fishing.
Family-friendly stops nearby include the farm activities at Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm, orchards and cider mills in Warwick, and day trips into New York City by car or commuter rail.

The main camping season in this part of the Hudson Valley runs from mid-April through late October. Wawayanda State Park camping is open from April 1 through October 31, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm and KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City run a similar April through October window.
Summer is peak season. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day book out well in advance, and the swimming area at Wawayanda Lake is staffed with lifeguards only from late June through early September. Fall foliage in late September and October is a second peak, drawing weekend traffic from New York City and northern New Jersey.
Winter camping is limited. Black Bear Campground stays open year-round with heated water hookups, which is unusual for the region and useful for RVers passing through on I-84. Most other parks close their bathhouses and water systems once freezing weather sets in, and state-park trails see cross-country skiing and snowshoeing rather than camping.

How to book campgrounds near Florida, NY
Reservation systems vary by operator. Wawayanda State Park uses the New Jersey State Park Service reservation portal at camping.nj.gov, with sites bookable up to eleven months in advance. Booking early is important for summer weekends, since the park has a limited number of individual and group sites.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Black Bear Campground takes bookings by phone or through Campspot. KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City books through the KOA website, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm books through Sun Outdoors or Campspot.
For Camp Wyanokie and other primitive sites in the Highlands, contact the managing agency directly. Confirm rig length limits and hookup type when booking, since some sites in the area cannot accommodate larger fifth wheels or big-rig motorhomes.
What to expect
Terrain is rolling and often wooded, with elevations climbing into the 1,100 to 1,400 foot range on nearby ridges. Roads into the campgrounds are paved but narrow in places, and access to Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm includes a hill climb that should be planned for with heavy trailers.
Amenity levels differ sharply between parks. Black Bear Campground, KOA Holiday Deerpark New York City, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm offer full hookups, pools, laundry, and family activities. Wawayanda State Park is basic: water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities on site.
Cell service is inconsistent in the Highlands and improves closer to the villages of Warwick, Vernon, and Middletown. Black bears are active in the region, so food storage should follow standard bear-country practice.

New York's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) lets a standard Class D license cover any recreational vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes virtually every campervan, travel trailer, Class B, and Class C motorhome on RVezy. Plans change, and RVezy makes it low-risk to book your Florida, NY RV trip. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (it is not host-defined), and refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your pickup date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you can rebook. Severe Hudson Valley weather or other unexpected events do happen, and the RVezy support team is available to help you navigate options. Bear Mountain State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails (not in swimming or picnic areas), and the open Black Dirt Region roads around Pine Island are perfect for sniff-walks. Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park does not allow pets, so consider a private campground like Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY instead. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm pet fees and any cleaning expectations.
parks.ny.gov/regulations/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Florida, NY?
Yes, RV delivery in Florida, NY is one of the most popular options for first-timers and anyone who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Hudson Valley back roads. Many Orange County hosts will deliver and set up your RV at local campgrounds like Black Bear Campground, Oakland Valley Campground, or Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, then walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, along with their per-mile delivery fees. Pro tip: delivery is a game changer if you want a family RV trip to Florida, NY without ever getting behind the wheel of the RV itself.

dot.ny.gov/indexWhere are the best campgrounds near Florida, NY for my RV?

Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park, about 25 miles east, accommodates RVs up to 30 feet (no hookups, no pets) on Lake Welch. parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/beaver-pond-campgrounds-harriman-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Florida, NY?
Late spring through mid-October is the sweet spot for any Florida, NY RV trip. May warms up to highs near 68°F with blooming orchards across the Black Dirt Region, June through August averages 76°F to 83°F with long, lake-friendly days, and September and October bring crisp 60s and 70s with some of the best fall foliage in the country along Seven Lakes Drive. Winters here are genuinely cold, with January highs around 33°F and 25-plus snow days, so most campgrounds close from late October until April. Pro tip: aim for the last two weeks of September if you want warm afternoons, cool sleeping weather, and early color in the Hudson Highlands.
weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting from Florida, NY?

You can also message your host through RVezy any time during the trip with questions. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C or campervan rental in Florida, NY for your first time; they drive much like a large van and park easily at most campgrounds.

You are never stranded. A weekend loop through Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain (around 120 miles round trip) usually costs $30 to $60 in fuel. The earlier the better, especially for summer and fall foliage weekends. New York State Parks (including Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman) open reservations exactly nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and the most popular weekends, like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and mid-October leaf-peeping, can sell out within hours of opening. Private parks like Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY and Oakland Valley Campground generally book up four to eight weeks ahead in peak season. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the nine-month booking window at 8 a.m. Eastern, and have a backup campground ready in case your first choice fills.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Florida, NY?
Driving an RV around Florida, NY is refreshingly relaxed compared to neighboring metro areas. The village sits on quiet rural routes through the famous Black Dirt onion-farming flatlands, with easy access to Route 17, Interstate 84, and the New York State Thruway (I-87) within 15 miles. Watch for low clearances on the Palisades Interstate Parkway (cars only, no RVs allowed), and plan around morning and afternoon rush hours if you're heading toward the Bear Mountain Bridge. Winter brings snow and occasional black ice from December through March. Pro tip: stick to I-87 and Route 17 for the smoothest RV-friendly travel, and avoid parkways entirely since most ban commercial-style vehicles.

You'll find potable water fill stations at most park entrances. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm details like bedding, towels, and kitchen stock before you arrive, so you only pack what you actually need.

orangecountygov.com/391/Florida-VillageHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

You pay for your Florida, NY RV rental by credit or debit card at booking, and a refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and pre-authorized on your card before pickup.
