Campgrounds near Lawrence, New York
Lawrence sits on the southwest edge of Nassau County on Long Island's South Shore, minutes from JFK Airport and the Rockaway peninsula. RV campers using Lawrence as a jumping-off point have limited in-town options, so most head to a small ring of parks that fan out across Brooklyn, Jersey City, and central Long Island. The closest true camping is Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area, the National Park Service campground on Jamaica Bay in Brooklyn.
West of Lawrence, across New York Harbor, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is marketed as the closest RV park to New York City, with views of the Statue of Liberty from many sites. It functions as an urban basecamp with utility hookups and transit access to Manhattan.
Heading east along Long Island, Heckscher State Park delivers a traditional shoreline campground on the Great South Bay. Farther south into New Jersey, Allaire State Park and Pine Cone Campgrounds add wooded, family-oriented options within roughly a two-hour drive.
Things to do near Lawrence
The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge sits adjacent to Floyd Bennett Field, and the refuge is home to approximately 300 migratory bird species. On the airfield itself, visitors will find hiking trails, historic aircraft at Hangar B, a visitor center in the former airport terminal, and recreational activities including biking, archery, and kayaking from the seaplane launch.
Heckscher State Park focuses on the water. The Great South Bay provides opportunities for bay swimming, boat launching, sail boarding, kayaking, and canoeing, and four miles of paved multi-use trails serve bikers and walkers.
Allaire State Park pairs outdoor recreation with history. It is best known for its 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad narrow-gauge train ride, and the Manasquan River offers freshwater fishing. From Liberty Harbor, PATH, light rail, and ferry service put lower Manhattan within reach without moving the RV.

Camping season around Lawrence is compressed at the public parks. Heckscher State Park runs a summer window, typically reopening in late May and closing in early September. Sites fill quickly around July 4th and Labor Day weekends.
Allaire State Park offers a much longer shoulder-season window. Its group campsites are open April 1 through December 15, and shelters, cabin-like structures with a wood stove for heat, run on a similar schedule, though family campsites have been affected by recent bathhouse construction. Insect pressure at the coastal parks builds through summer: gnats and mosquitoes appear by late June and remain a factor through October.
Liberty Harbor RV Park and Pine Cone Campgrounds have longer operating windows. Liberty Harbor operates in Jersey City with year-round availability at its marina lot, while Floyd Bennett Field and Pine Cone Campgrounds also accept guests outside the traditional Memorial Day to Labor Day window, though amenities and staffing are lighter in the off-season.

Jerry was very flexible with picking up and dropping off. Very nice guy. We traveled from Long Beach to Nashville me my wife and my two kids in the Solis and we had the most comfortable drive. Very friendly user vehicle and Jerry was very good at explaining how everything works. We had a great time and the unlimited mileage was a huge benefit. The RV fits where a minivan fits and the all around visibility from the cockpit is amazing. Not to mention that all safety features are also a huge plus with brake assistance and blind spots with folding mirrors. Highly recommended.

How to book campgrounds near Lawrence
Floyd Bennett Field uses the federal system: reservations can be made online at recreation.gov, up to six months in advance, and advance booking is strongly recommended over walk-up. New York state park campgrounds, including Heckscher, use ReserveAmerica. Campsite reservations can be booked up to nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, either online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center.
New Jersey state parks, including Allaire, use camping.nj.gov. Online bookings can be made up to eleven months in advance, and campsites and especially shelters fill fast for summer and holiday weekends.
Liberty Harbor RV Park and Pine Cone Campgrounds are private parks, so both handle bookings directly by phone or through their own websites.
What to expect on-site
Floyd Bennett Field is spartan by design. The campground has around 20 RV parking sites on an expansive paved surface, with restrooms, showers, drinking water, picnic tables, and a dump station, but no individual water or electric hookups at sites. Heckscher offers a flat, open layout on the Great South Bay with restrooms, showers, and a dump station; hookup availability varies by loop, so confirm at booking.
Liberty Harbor is essentially a marina lot with utilities. It offers 30A and 50A electric plus water hookups, restrooms, showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a dump station, but sites are tight and some larger fifth wheels struggle with the layout.
Allaire is wooded and traditional, with 45 family campsites near the Manasquan River, 10 shelters, drinking water, flush toilets, showers, and a seasonal RV dump station open mid-April to mid-October. Pine Cone Campgrounds provides full hookups plus family amenities.

parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/heckscher-state-parkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lawrence, NY?
Good news: a regular New York driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lawrence, NY. There is no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required for any standard motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. Visiting from out of state? Your home-state license works perfectly. International travelers should grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their local auto association before flying in, which usually costs under $25. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there are no surprise paperwork hurdles at pickup. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is, even with a 30-foot Class C.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseIs protection included when I rent an RV in Lawrence, NY?

During checkout, you choose from multiple protection plan levels so you can dial in the coverage that fits your comfort level and budget. Booking is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy sets a standard cancellation policy across the platform (hosts don't set their own), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel. You'll see the full cancellation details on the RVezy website before you confirm your booking. This is helpful on Long Island where late-summer and early-fall weather can shift quickly. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for summer weekends in Lawrence, NY, then relax knowing you've reviewed the cancellation window in advance.

Long Island is packed with dog-friendly outdoor spots: leashed pups are welcome on the boardwalk at nearby Jones Beach in the off-season, on the nature trails at Heckscher State Park, and at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk also allows leashed dogs at most campsites outside the bathing beach. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, and ask about any pet cleaning fee so there are no surprises at checkout.
parks.ny.gov/regulations/dogs-pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Lawrence, NY?
Yes, RV delivery in Lawrence, NY is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who don't want to drive a big rig through Five Towns traffic or over the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your driveway, a Nassau County campground like Battle Row in Old Bethpage, or even out to Heckscher State Park in East Islip about 35 minutes away. They'll level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before leaving. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into JFK (under 10 minutes from Lawrence) and want to start your trip without picking up a vehicle.
nassaucountyny.gov/1816/Battle-Row-CampgroundHow far can I drive on my Lawrence, NY RV trip?

Wildwood State Park in Wading River (60 miles east) offers 322 wooded sites with full hookups. For RV camping in Lawrence, NY closer to home, Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton is another excellent option. Pro tip: New York State Parks open reservations 9 months ahead, and oceanfront Hither Hills sites disappear within hours of release.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time for an RV trip from Lawrence, NY?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time for a Lawrence, NY RV trip. June offers warm days in the 75 to 82°F range, lighter beach crowds, and long daylight hours. July and August are peak summer with highs of 82 to 88°F, perfect for swimming at Atlantic Beach and Long Beach, though weekends out east book up fast. September is the local insider's secret: ocean water is still 70°F, traffic to the Hamptons drops dramatically after Labor Day, and campground rates ease up. October brings stunning fall color in the nearby Hudson Valley with crisp 55 to 65°F days. Winters dip into the 30s but RV rentals are still available for off-season getaways. Pro tip: book your September week now to score Hither Hills oceanfront sites without the summer madness.
weather.gov/okx/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Lawrence, NY area?
You'll do great, and you're not alone (most RVezy guests are first time renting an RV). Every host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, the generator, and dumping tanks. They share their cell number, so you can text questions mid-trip. For Lawrence specifically, the easiest move is to have the RV delivered to your campground so you skip the trickier Nassau County parkways (many of which ban RVs due to low bridges). If you do drive, take the Belt Parkway only in a smaller campervan, and use Sunrise Highway (Route 27) or the Long Island Expressway for larger rigs. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C or campervan rental Lawrence locals love, around 22 to 25 feet, for an easy first trip.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/Parkways%20Restricted%20to%20Passenger%20Vehicles.htmlWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you've got a flat on the Long Island Expressway, a dead battery at a Montauk campground, or an issue with the generator out in the Catskills, help is one phone call away. Your host is also your first line of support and usually a quick text away to troubleshoot common questions about appliances or hookups. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip if anything escalates. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Lawrence, NY, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you have the info ready if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lawrence, NY RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes to most of the U.S., and yes to Canada with the right approval. From Lawrence, NY, an RV road trip from Lawrence into New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, or up to Vermont and Maine is totally standard, no extra paperwork needed. For Canada (popular routes head to Montreal, Quebec City, or Niagara Falls, Ontario), message the host before booking. Many RVezy hosts will approve cross-border travel as long as you let them know in advance so they can confirm insurance coverage. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance doesn't extend south of the border. Pro tip: bring your passport and book at least two weeks ahead if you're crossing into Canada, so the host has time to finalize border-friendly documentation.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat does fuel cost for an RV trip from Lawrence, NY?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward once you know the basics. Long Island gas runs higher than the national average (typically $3.50 to $4.10 per gallon for regular in Nassau County), and your mileage depends on the rig: campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, and big Class A rigs run 7 to 10 MPG. For a 220-mile round trip to Montauk in a Class C, plan on roughly $65 to $90 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up off-Island in Pennsylvania or New Jersey on longer trips where gas is often 30 to 60 cents cheaper per gallon, and use the GasBuddy app to find the lowest prices along Sunrise Highway before heading east.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lawrence, NY?
For summer weekends, sooner is much better. New York State Parks (Heckscher, Hither Hills, Wildwood) open reservations 9 months ahead through the ReserveAmerica portal, and oceanfront sites at Hither Hills in Montauk often sell out the day they release. For July and August stays, aim to book in November or December of the prior year. Suffolk County parks like Cedar Point and Smith Point typically require a Green Key card for residents, while Nassau County's Battle Row is open to everyone and books up about 2 to 3 months ahead for summer. Shoulder-season trips (May, September, October) are much easier and you can often book just 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 9-month-out release date if you want a beachfront Hither Hills site.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Lawrence, NY?
Lawrence sits in the Five Towns on the southwestern tip of Nassau County, so you'll want a smart route plan. The biggest thing to know: most Long Island parkways (Southern State, Northern State, Belt, Meadowbrook) prohibit RVs and trailers due to low overpasses, some under 8 feet. Stick to Sunrise Highway (Route 27), the Long Island Expressway (I-495), and Route 27A for any motorhome larger than a campervan. Summer traffic east of Exit 70 on the LIE gets brutal Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings (the famous Hamptons rush), so leave Lawrence early morning or after 8pm. Winter brings occasional nor'easters with snow and ice from December through March. Pro tip: download the Trucker Path or RV Trip Wizard app to auto-route around low bridges anywhere on Long Island.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/Parkways%20Restricted%20to%20Passenger%20Vehicles.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lawrence, NY?
Long Island campgrounds offer a solid range of amenities. Most New York State Parks like Heckscher and Wildwood have electric hookups, shared water spigots, hot showers, flush toilets, and a centralized dump station (no charge for registered campers). Battle Row in Old Bethpage and Wildwood State Park offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites. Hither Hills in Montauk has electric and water at most sites plus a camp store, playground, and dump station. For dumping and filling between trips, the Cedar Creek Park area and Heckscher State Park dump stations are the closest options to Lawrence, NY. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before you leave Lawrence and dump at the campground on your way out, that way you're never hauling waste through Five Towns traffic.
parks.ny.gov/camping/rv-trailer-camping.aspxWhat's included inside an RV rental from Lawrence, NY?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped most rigs are. Standard RVezy listings near Lawrence, NY come with sleeping for 2 to 8 people (depending on size), a kitchen with stove, fridge, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower in most motorhomes, climate control with both AC and heat, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many newer rigs also offer WiFi hotspots, solar panels, or onboard generators (handy for boondocking off Montauk Highway). A motorhome rental in Lawrence often includes linens, towels, and basic kitchen starter kits, though some hosts charge a small add-on fee. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities tab and message the host to confirm sleeping arrangements, especially if you're planning a family RV trip from Lawrence to the Hamptons with kids.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rentals in Lawrence, NY?
You can customize your trip with popular add-ons that make Long Island RV camping easier. Common extras include linens and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs and outdoor mats, portable grills, bike racks, generators (if not built-in), and WiFi hotspots. For pickup, you can either drive to the host's location (often within a short drive of Lawrence in nearby Nassau County towns) or pay for delivery to your campground or driveway. Mileage policies vary by listing: some include generous daily allowances, others offer unlimited mileage, and some charge a per-mile fee over a daily cap. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a linens package often saves time and hassle, especially if you're flying into JFK Airport just minutes from Lawrence.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Lawrence, NY?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card (never directly to the host), which keeps everything documented and protected. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held on your card as an authorization shortly before your trip starts. Deposit amounts vary by listing and are shown before you book, and the hold is released after return assuming no damage or extra fees. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, empty the tanks if required, and message the host through the platform with any questions. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app so you have a clear record if anything comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Lawrence, NY?
Your location in the Five Towns puts you within easy striking distance of incredible RV destinations. Head east on Sunrise Highway for the classic 110-mile Hamptons-to-Montauk run with stops at Hither Hills and Montauk Point Lighthouse. Drive 130 miles north into the Catskills for hiking around Hunter Mountain and tubing on the Esopus Creek. Cape Cod is a 230-mile, 4.5-hour trip via I-95 and the Bourne Bridge, perfect for a long weekend. Acadia National Park in Maine is the bucket-list run at 470 miles. For a shorter loop, the Hudson Valley wine trail is just 90 miles north with great stops at Storm King Art Center and Bear Mountain State Park. Pro tip: avoid leaving Lawrence on Friday afternoons in summer, hit the road by 6am or after 9pm to skip Hamptons traffic and arrive relaxed.
