Campgrounds near Lorenz Park
Lorenz Park sits just outside the city of Hudson in Columbia County, New York, on the east side of the Hudson River in the northern Hudson Valley. The area works well as an RV base: it is roughly two hours north of New York City, close to the Taconic State Parkway, and within a short drive of both the Catskill Mountains to the west and the Taconic and Berkshire ranges to the east.
Campground options within about a half-hour drive span state park facilities and private resorts. Lake Taghkanic State Park, located about 11 miles southeast of Hudson in the rolling hills of Columbia County, has tent and trailer campsites, cabin and cottage facilities, two beaches, picnic grounds and a boat launch. Private options include Treetopia Campground, Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, Blue Mountain Campground, and Copake Camping Resort.
Amenities across the area include hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a mix of hookup configurations at private parks suitable for rigs of most sizes.
Things to do near Lorenz Park
Water recreation is a core draw. Lake Taghkanic State Park features two beaches, boat launch sites, rowboat, paddleboat and kayak rentals, picnic areas, playgrounds, playing fields, and showers, giving families a full day on the lake without leaving the park.
Hiking and sightseeing are close at hand. Olana State Historic Site and Clermont State Historic Site are within an easy drive, along with Taconic State Park's Copake Falls Area, and the towns of Hudson and Catskill offer restaurants, antique shops, and river access. Trails inside Lake Taghkanic support hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling in season.
On-site amenities at private parks add pool time, playgrounds, and camp stores stocked with firewood and basics.

The primary RV season runs from late spring through mid-fall. Private parks in the area typically open around April or May and close in mid-to-late October, while Lake Taghkanic State Park stays active in winter for ice fishing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling when conditions allow, and environmental education programs run year round.
Summer is peak season. July and August fill quickly, especially weekends near the lake. At Lake Taghkanic, cabins are 7 or 14-night reservations only from the end of June to the end of August, Saturday to Saturday, and cottages are 7 or 14-night reservations only over the same window, Friday to Friday. Book well in advance for those months.
Spring and early fall are quieter and cooler, with foliage color peaking in October across the Hudson Valley. Winter camping is limited: most private campgrounds are closed, and only a few state park facilities remain accessible.

How to book near Lorenz Park
State park sites go through a single system. New York State Park campgrounds take reservations online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, and camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, and walk-ins are also permitted on campsites only, so summer weekends at Lake Taghkanic State Park should be locked in early.
Private parks such as Treetopia Campground, Brook-n-Wood Family Campground, Blue Mountain Campground, and Copake Camping Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and foliage weekends sell out first, so secure dates before finalizing an RV rental.
What to expect near Lorenz Park
Expect a mix of wooded state park sites and full-amenity private resorts within a short drive of Lorenz Park. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites only at state parks, so travelers without a reservation should call ahead before rolling in with a rental rig.
Access for larger vehicles is straightforward at most locations. Large trucks, RVs and campers can enter Lake Taghkanic State Park from the Route 82 entrance, which avoids the tighter parkway approach. Private resorts in the surrounding towns sit on state and county roads suitable for full-size Class A rigs and travel trailers.
Pets are generally welcome outdoors on leash at campsites, though cabins and cottages at Lake Taghkanic are smoke and pet free. Cell service is decent near Hudson and thins in the hills toward the Taconic and Catskill ranges.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lorenz%20Park%2C%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lorenz Park?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular New York State Class D driver's license (or your home state or country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Lorenz Park. New York only requires a special endorsement for personal recreational vehicles over 26,000 pounds, and virtually every RV on RVezy, including Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers, falls well under that threshold. You must be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your local auto club before you fly in and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Absolutely, peace of mind is built into every booking. Every RV rental in Lorenz Park through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are never stranded on the Taconic State Parkway or a quiet back road in Columbia County. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the vehicle, and during the booking process you choose the coverage level that fits your trip, not the host. Hosts cannot downgrade your protection. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and drop-off through the RVezy app to make any claim process quick and painless.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. That means consistent, transparent rules across every RV rental in Lorenz Park, including a money-back grace period right after you book and protections if a natural event like a Hudson Valley nor'easter or flooding along the Hudson River disrupts your plans. You will see the exact cancellation terms during checkout before you confirm. Pro tip: message the host first if your dates are flexible, as many will happily shift your booking by a few days rather than process a cancellation.

Once you arrive, the Greenport Conservation Area trails minutes from Lorenz Park welcome leashed dogs, and Lake Taghkanic State Park about 20 minutes south allows dogs in the day-use and campground areas with proof of rabies vaccination. Olana State Historic Site grounds also permit leashed pets on the carriage roads. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's vaccination records, because most New York State Parks ask to see them at check-in.

newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Lorenz Park?
Honestly, every season has its magic here, but late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Lorenz Park. Summer (June to August) brings warm 75 to 85 degree Fahrenheit days perfect for Hudson River swims and Catskills hikes. September and early October are the real showstopper, when Columbia County's maples and oaks erupt into red and gold along Route 9G. Spring (April to May) is quiet and green, with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Winter rentals are available too, just look for four-season RVs with heated tanks. Pro tip: book by mid-July for peak foliage weekends, which sell out fast.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this, and you're not alone. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially in the Hudson Valley where roads like Route 9, Route 23, and the Taconic State Parkway are wide, well-maintained, and scenic. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, the propane system, slide-outs, the awning, and dump procedures. You can message your host with questions before booking, and RVezy customer support is available 24/7 throughout your trip. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first Lorenz Park trip, they drive much like an oversized van.
dot.ny.gov/portal/page/portal/divisions/operating/osssWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered, day or night. Every RV rental in Lorenz Park booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Whether you have a flat tire on the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, a dead battery at a Catskill trailhead, or a mechanical hiccup on Route 9G, one phone call dispatches help. Your host is also a great first call for quick fixes like a finicky water pump or slide-out, since they know their rig inside and out. Pro tip: save both the RVezy support number and your host's phone number to your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Lorenz Park?

A popular RV road trip from Lorenz Park is the Catskills loop west to Hunter Mountain and Kaaterskill Falls (about 25 miles), then south to Woodstock and the Ashokan Reservoir (about 50 miles). Head east into the Berkshires for Tanglewood and Mount Greylock (35 to 60 miles). Drive north to Lake George and the southern Adirondacks (about 90 miles) for lakefront camping. Cross-border trips into nearby Massachusetts, Vermont, or Connecticut are usually fine, just confirm with your host before booking.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/hudson-valley/What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and you'll keep costs in check. Class B campervans around Lorenz Park average 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A coaches hover around 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, but figure 10 to 14 mpg combined. New York gas prices typically run 20 to 40 cents above the national average, and most RVs in this region take regular unleaded (diesel pushers excepted). Pro tip: fill up at the Stewart's Shops on Route 9 in Hudson or the Sunoco just off Route 23 in Claverack before heading into the Catskills, where rural prices climb noticeably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Lorenz Park?
The earlier the better, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage. New York State Parks like Lake Taghkanic and North-South Lake open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime lakefront and full-hookup sites disappear within minutes of release for July, August, and Columbus Day weekend. Private parks like Copake Camping Resort and Brook n Wood typically fill 2 to 4 months out for peak weekends but have midweek availability much closer in. Pro tip: if you strike out at the state parks, search Hipcamp for private farm and vineyard campsites across Columbia County, many of which welcome RVs and rarely sell out.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Lorenz Park?
Driving here is genuinely pleasant. Roads around Lorenz Park, including Route 9, Route 9G, and Route 23, are mostly two-lane country highways with gentle curves and big-sky Hudson Valley views. The Taconic State Parkway, just east of Lorenz Park, prohibits commercial vehicles but welcomes personal-use RVs (note: no trailers on the parkway). Winter brings snow and occasional black ice from December through March, so check New York's 511 system before driving. Summer traffic picks up on weekends heading to Hudson village. Pro tip: avoid the Rip Van Winkle Bridge during the 5 to 6 pm shift change for the nearby state correctional facility, when traffic backs up briefly.

The Hudson Catskill Wastewater Treatment also offers public RV dump access for a small fee. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, fill-up spots along Route 23 are limited.

Many newer rentals also offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, solar panels, and onboard generators for boondocking in the Catskills. Every seat used while driving has a seatbelt, which is required by New York law. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the photo gallery on each RVezy listing, hosts list every amenity clearly so there are no surprises at pickup.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lorenz%20Park%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Lorenz Park, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything trackable and protected. A refundable security deposit is held shortly before your trip and released after drop-off, assuming no damage or excess mileage. Choose your protection level during checkout to reduce out-of-pocket risk if something happens. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and drop-off with your host present, it is the single best way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take a winter RV trip from Lorenz Park?
Yes, and winter here is genuinely beautiful. Lorenz Park sits at the edge of the Catskills, where January temperatures average 15 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit and snowy weekends draw skiers to Hunter Mountain, Windham, and Catamount, all within an hour's drive. Look for four-season RVs on RVezy with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces, and book a campground with full electric hookups like Copake Camping Resort, which stays open year-round. Pro tip: ask your host to walk you through winterization basics at pickup, including how to keep the fresh water tank from freezing overnight, and pack a heated water hose for stress-free hookups.
