Campgrounds and RV parks near Myers Corner, NY

The Hudson River corridor drives most trip planning. Renters use Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park for river walks, a marina with boat launch, and access to the Hyde Park estates, including the FDR home and library. The Walkway Over the Hudson linear park connects Poughkeepsie and Highland on a converted rail bridge and works well for a half-day outing. Inland, Clarence Fahnestock State Park has swimming at Canopus Lake, boat rentals, and trails that intersect the Appalachian Trail. Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc adds a small swim beach and fishing. For rainy days or family stops, Newburgh's waterfront, the Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain, and the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park are all within an hour's drive.

The Hudson Valley camping season runs roughly from mid-April to mid-October, with shoulder weeks on either side depending on the property. State-park campgrounds in this region, including Norrie, follow that pattern and operate on a seasonal calendar set by New York State Parks. Note that the main Pelton Pond campground at Clarence Fahnestock is currently closed while a new bathhouse is built, though the group wilderness campground remains open by phone reservation with the park office. Summer is peak. July and August bring warm days, warm lake water, and full weekend bookings, so sites at Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, the Newburgh KOA, and the Jellystone Lazy River resort fill early. Mosquitoes and ticks are active through the warm months. Fall is the strongest shoulder window. Foliage in Putnam and Dutchess counties usually peaks in mid to late October, and cooler nights make for comfortable RV sleeping. Winter camping is limited, and most sites winterize water and close loops after the fall season.

Roads into the Hudson Highlands are winding, and some approaches to state parks, including Route 301 to Pelton Pond, involve grades and tight curves. Larger Class A rigs and long trailers should confirm site length limits, which at the Fahnestock loops top out around 40 feet. Hookups vary widely. The Newburgh KOA and the Jellystone Lazy River resort offer full-service RV sites with water, electric, and sewer. Margaret Lewis Norrie has a limited number of electric sites, central water spigots rather than site water, and a shared bathhouse with showers. The Pelton Pond loops at Fahnestock are primitive, with no electric, water, or sewer hookups. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-84 and Route 9 but drops inside the wooded ridges around Fahnestock. Black bears are present in Putnam County, so store food securely.
