Campgrounds and RV parks near Pine Plains, NY

Water activities anchor most trips. Lake Taghkanic State Park has two beaches, a boat launch, and rowboat, paddleboat, and kayak rentals, plus hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails that stay open into winter. Rudd Pond adds swimming at a designated area, fishing for bass, pickerel, and sunfish, and non-motorized boating on the 64-acre pond. Hikers can access the extensive trail system inside Taconic State Park, which runs along 16 miles of the Taconic Mountain Range and connects to the South Taconic Trail near Millerton. The Copake Falls Area of Taconic State Park is a common day trip for waterfalls and trailheads. Back at camp, Copake Camping Resort and Interlake RV Park & Campground both run themed weekends, pools, mini golf, and playgrounds, which help on rainy afternoons with kids.

The private RV resorts in this area run a standard Hudson Valley season. Copake Camping Resort opens May 1 and closes October 31, and Interlake RV Park & Campground operates on a similar warm-weather schedule from spring through late October. Summer weekends book heavily, especially around holidays, and Copake treats holiday and special-event reservations as non-refundable. Lake Taghkanic State Park and Rudd Pond Area follow New York State Parks seasonal camping rules. Swimming at Rudd Pond runs Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only beginning Memorial Day weekend and closes after the third weekend in August, so a late-August or September trip may find the beach shut even in warm weather. Cabins and cottages at Lake Taghkanic switch to 7 or 14-night Saturday-to-Saturday reservations from late June through late August. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, lighter crowds, and strong foliage in October. Winter access at state parks shifts toward day use, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling rather than tent or RV camping.

At state park campgrounds, campsite check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 11 a.m., quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and there is no admission to the park after 9 p.m. Photo ID and the reservation number are required at registration. Rudd Pond has 15 ground sites and 26 elevated platform sites built into a hillside, with a 20-foot maximum RV length, so only select sites suit small trailers. Lake Taghkanic has a wider mix of tent and trailer sites plus cabins and cottages. Copake Camping Resort runs 30 and 50-amp full-hookup RV sites with cable, a heated pool, mini golf, a multi-sport court, and a general store, and accommodates rigs up to 125 feet. Interlake RV Park & Campground sits in Rhinebeck with a heated pool, snack bar, laundry, camp store, and fishing on site. Cell coverage is generally reliable and both resorts offer WiFi, though speeds vary at peak times.
