Camping near Tully, New York
Tully sits in the hills of central New York on the southern edge of Onondaga County, roughly 20 miles south of Syracuse and within the northern Finger Lakes region. The area is defined by glacially formed lakes, rolling farmland, and state forest, with elevations between about 1,200 and 2,000 feet that give the local climate cooler summer nights than the lowlands to the north.
RV campers use Tully as a base for two overlapping trip types: quiet lake and forest camping close to town, and day trips to the larger Finger Lakes attractions west and south. Private RV parks in the immediate area include Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort, Forest Lake Campground, Cortlands Country Music Park and Campground, Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds, and Empire Haven Nudist Resort and Campground.
Public land nearby adds primitive options. Morgan Hill State Forest and neighboring state forests offer designated and dispersed sites, and Tully Lake, a shallow 234-acre lake on the Cortland-Onondaga county line, has a small state hand launch with a 7.5-horsepower motor limit.
Things to do around Tully
The Onondaga Trail, a branch of the Finger Lakes Trail system, runs through Morgan Hill State Forest and passes Tinker Falls, a short walk from the trailhead. Highland Forest, Onondaga County's largest park, adds miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback trails a short drive north.
Water activities center on Tully Lake and the surrounding Finger Lakes. Tully Lake holds largemouth bass, chain pickerel, panfish, and yellow perch, and it is one of the first lakes in the area to freeze for ice fishing. Skaneateles, Otisco, and Owasco lakes are all within about a half-hour drive for swimming, paddling, and boat rentals.
Families traveling with kids often build days around the pool, mini-golf, and themed activities at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort, then use the RV as a base for day trips to state park waterfalls farther south.

The practical camping season in the Tully area runs from May through October, with some private parks opening in April and closing in late October, and a handful of sites accessible year-round for winter recreation. Fall camping from mid-September through October is popular for foliage and thinner crowds, with peak leaf color in central New York typically arriving in mid-October.
Summer is the busiest stretch. July and August bring warm days, cool nights, and the region's highest thunderstorm frequency, and holiday weekends at private RV parks and nearby state parks fill months in advance. Biting insects, especially ticks and mosquitoes, are active from late spring through early fall, and tick prevention is worthwhile in any grassy or wooded site.
Winter brings heavy lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario, with Syracuse averaging over 114 inches of snowfall per season. Most private campgrounds close, and unpaved forest roads may be impassable during wet or frozen conditions.

Matt was incredible from start to finish. Replies almost immediately to all messages and questions from time of booking, leading up to the trip and during your trip. The RV was immaculate on the outside, the entire cabin, refrigerator, bathrooms, etc. And it came with everything we would need for the trip. Was our first time staying in an RV - Matt showed up promptly when he said he would (even earlier), set up everything for our stay and walked me through everything we needed to know to use and enjoy the RV for a week. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone and would certainly book with him again!

How to book a site near Tully
Private campgrounds around Tully take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Weekend and holiday sites at family-focused parks like Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort, Forest Lake Campground, and Yellow Lantern Kamp Grounds tend to book earliest, often several months ahead for July and August.
State-run campgrounds in the wider region are managed by two agencies. New York State Parks (OPRHP) and NYSDEC campgrounds both book through the ReserveAmerica system on a nine-month rolling window, with new dates opening at 8 a.m. Eastern on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day campsite reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival when sites remain.
What to expect on the ground
Private RV parks near Tully generally offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, restrooms with showers, and family amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and organized activities. Sites vary in length and levelness, so travelers with larger rigs should confirm site dimensions and site type when booking.
State forest camping is a different experience. Designated primitive sites and dispersed camping are allowed on state forest land at least 150 feet from trails, roads, and water, with no hookups, no potable water at most sites, and often rough, unpaved access roads. Cell service is spotty on back roads and in the hollows.
Black bears are present in the surrounding forests, so food and scented items should be stored inside the RV or a hard-sided container overnight. Fires are typically permitted in provided rings only, and burn bans can be issued during dry stretches.
