Campgrounds near Tuxedo Park
Tuxedo Park sits in the Ramapo Mountains of Orange County, New York, roughly an hour from New York City. The village borders the western edge of Harriman State Park, a 48,556-acre state park in Rockland and Orange counties about 30 miles north of New York City. It is the state's second largest park and features 31 lakes, multiple streams, public camping areas, and long ridge views. RV travelers use this area as a base for hiking, lake swimming, and weekend trips out of the metro region.
The closest public campground is Beaver Pond Campground, which adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park and sits about 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. Additional options within a short drive include Camp Wyanokie in West Milford, Black Bear Campground in Florida, New York, and Wawayanda State Park across the New Jersey line. Farther west, Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm sits in the Sussex County hills.
RV-friendly options vary widely. Beaver Pond accepts smaller rigs but has no electrical hookups, while private parks like Black Bear Campground and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm offer full-service sites better suited to larger motorhomes and trailers.
Things to do near Tuxedo Park
Hiking dominates the area. Harriman State Park has more than 200 miles of trails that range from easy to strenuous, plus 31 lakes and two swimming beaches at Lake Welch and Lake Tiorati, both staffed by lifeguards in season. Fishing, paddling, and picnicking are all popular around the park's ponds and reservoirs.
Across the state line, Wawayanda State Park has over 60 miles of well-marked trails plus a 19.6 mile section of the Appalachian Trail, restricted to hiking only. The park also offers boating with electric motors, swimming, and fishing on Wawayanda Lake.
Families traveling with kids often build the trip around on-site amenities. Black Bear Campground has a pool and playground, while Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm features farm activities, a fishing pond, and planned recreation. Nearby towns like Warwick and Sugar Loaf add farm markets, apple picking in fall, and small restaurants.

The core camping season runs from spring through mid-fall. Beaver Pond Campground operates seasonally, with reservations bookable up to 9 months in advance and the peak booking window opening at 8AM weekdays and 9AM weekends from March 15 through Labor Day. Wawayanda's group campsites are open April 1 to October 31, and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm typically runs from spring through mid-fall.
Summer is the busiest window. Harriman is roughly an hour's drive from New York City and a favored weekend getaway for New Yorkers, which means weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. Weekday stays are noticeably quieter than Friday and Saturday nights.
Fall brings foliage in October and cooler nights that suit RV heaters better than tents. Winter shifts activity to snow sports: at an elevation of 1,140 feet above sea level, Wawayanda State Park receives significant snow in the winter months, supporting cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on designated trails. Most public campgrounds close, but Black Bear Campground stays open year-round for RVs with full hookups and heated water spigots.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book a site
New York State Parks and New Jersey State Parks use separate reservation systems. For Beaver Pond, camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8AM on weekdays and 9AM on weekends from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3PM on day of arrival, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Wawayanda uses the New Jersey system, with online reservations at camping.nj.gov. Its four group sites require a minimum of seven persons.
Private parks book directly. Black Bear Campground and Sun Retreats Pleasant Acres Farm both take reservations through their own websites or partner platforms. Camp Wyanokie requires a paid reservation for campsites or the picnic pavilion. Reserve popular summer weekends as early as possible.
What to expect
Site type varies sharply between the public parks and private RV parks. Beaver Pond has campsites for up to two tents and six persons per site, with select sites accommodating a trailer or RV up to 30 feet, each with a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. Shared full-service bathrooms, showers, laundry, and a dump station are on site, but there are no electrical hookups for trailers. Pets are not permitted at Beaver Pond Campground or Lake Welch, and alcohol is not allowed.
Black Bear Campground is a different experience. It has about 160 RV-only sites with no tent camping, accepts big rigs, and offers pull-thrus with mostly full hookups and 20/30/50 amp service. It is pet-friendly and open all year.
Bear activity occurs in the area, and campers will be provided with bear habitat guidelines that must be followed at all times. Store food securely and use the provided dumpsters.

New York's standard Class D license covers recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes essentially all campervans, travel trailers, and Class C motorhomes you'll find on the platform. To book on RVezy you must be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV insurance and roadside assistance included with my Tuxedo Park rental?
Yes, and it's one of the best parts of booking on RVezy. Every RV rental in Tuxedo Park includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Seven Lakes Drive or the New York State Thruway with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose your protection level, which covers most damages to the vehicle. The host doesn't pick your coverage, you do, so you can match it to your comfort level. If you get a flat near Bear Mountain at 2 a.m., one phone call brings help to your location. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it's significant financial protection that helps first-time renters feel a whole lot more confident.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Tuxedo Park RV booking?
You can book your RV rental in Tuxedo Park with confidence because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There's a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, with additional refund options depending on how far out you are from your trip start date. Hudson Valley weather can shift quickly in spring and fall, so it's reassuring to know there's a clear policy in your corner. If your plans change, contact RVezy support directly and they'll walk you through your options, no haggling with the host required.

Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, showing you exactly how to operate the propane, water pump, slide-outs, generator, awning, and dump valves. They'll share their direct contact info so you can text a quick question from your campsite at Lake Tiorati without feeling silly. You can also message the host before booking with any concerns. Plus, 24/7 roadside assistance is included in case anything mechanical pops up. Pro tip for your first Tuxedo Park RV trip: book a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Tuxedo Park style, they drive almost like a large van and are perfect for the curvy Seven Lakes Drive scenery.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never stranded with an RVezy rental. Yes, you can cross state lines on your RV road trip from Tuxedo Park, and most hosts welcome it. Drive into New Jersey for the shore (under 2 hours), Pennsylvania for the Poconos (about 90 minutes), Connecticut for the coast (around 2 hours), or up to Vermont and New Hampshire for fall foliage. Canada is allowed on some rentals as long as you confirm with the host before booking, since coverage rules can vary. Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: message the host with your full route before booking so they can confirm and provide any cross-border documentation you might need at the Canadian border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Tuxedo Park RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on an RV trip, but Tuxedo Park's central location keeps it manageable. Class B campervans typically get around 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes typically deliver 6 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in Orange and Rockland counties tend to run slightly above the national average, so expect to pay a bit more at stations along Route 17 than further upstate. newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/beaver-pond-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=392What's it like to drive an RV around Tuxedo Park?
Driving conditions around Tuxedo Park are very RV-friendly, with one thing to watch: the area is hilly. Route 17 (Orange Turnpike) and Seven Lakes Drive through Harriman State Park feature scenic curves and grade changes, which is part of the charm but means you should take it slow in a larger Class A or Class C motorhome. The New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) is just minutes away and gives you straight, easy highway access. Avoid the Palisades Interstate Parkway entirely, it is restricted to passenger cars and motorcycles only and explicitly prohibits RVs, motor homes, and trailers. Pro tip: stick to Route 17 north or the Thruway when leaving town with your motorhome rental Tuxedo Park style, and let an RV-specific GPS app route you around low-clearance bridges in the NYC area.

Black Bear Campground and Oakland Valley Campground offer full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi. Potable water spigots and dump stations are available throughout the region. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable beds for 2 to 8 people, climate control (AC and furnace), seatbelts for travel, and often a TV and Bluetooth speakers. Many hosts include essentials like linens, kitchenware, camp chairs, and outdoor mats. Wi-Fi is occasionally offered as an add-on, though cell signal works well in Tuxedo Park itself. Generators are common on Class A and Class C rentals, which is essential since Beaver Pond Campground has no electric hookups. Pro tip: bundle a delivery add-on with a setup package and you essentially get a fully prepped campsite waiting for you, perfect for a stress-free family RV trip Tuxedo Park weekend.
parks.ny.gov/parks/145/harriman-state-parkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit card during booking, no cash or wire transfers to the host. A security deposit is placed as a hold (not a charge) on your card before pickup, with amounts typically ranging from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value. The hold is released after your trip ends, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues on your RV rental Tuxedo Park trip, do a walkaround video with the host at pickup and again at return, dump the tanks, refill propane and fuel to the starting level, and clean up before drop-off. Most renters get their full deposit back within a few days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I dump waste and fill fresh water near Tuxedo Park?
You have several convenient options for dumping waste and filling fresh water around Tuxedo Park. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park has a dump station and potable water fill, available to registered campers (call the campground office ahead to confirm current availability for non-registered RVers). Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY offers dump services to non-guests for a small fee. Many travel-center fuel stops along Route 17 and the New York State Thruway also have RV-friendly fueling lanes with potable water. Pro tip: download the Sanidumps or RV LIFE app before your trip to map every dump station along your route, it's a lifesaver on longer Hudson Valley loops.
