Campgrounds and RV parks near Woodsburgh, NY

The area's main draw is water. Jones Beach, Long Beach, and the Rockaways are all within a short drive, and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, adjacent to Floyd Bennett Field, hosts roughly 300 migratory bird species. Camping at Floyd Bennett Field pairs well with a walk through the historic aircraft hangars, the outdoor archery range, and the paved paths on the old airfield. Heckscher State Park offers bay swimming, boat launches, kayaking, and four miles of paved multi-use trails along the Great South Bay. Allaire State Park adds a 19th-century living-history village and the narrow-gauge Pine Creek Railroad, plus fishing on the Manasquan River and an extensive trail system for hikers and mountain bikers. RVers who want a city day can drive to Liberty Harbor RV Park and ride the PATH train into Manhattan.

Peak season on Long Island runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when beaches, ferries, and campgrounds are fully staffed and every South Shore park is busy on weekends. Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island typically operates from mid-May through mid-October, since the ferry from Patchogue and the seasonal marina, general store, and lifeguarded beach run only during that window. The campground at Floyd Bennett Field is typically open from mid-May through mid-October as well. Allaire State Park family and group camping runs April 1 through December 15, with the trailer sanitary station open April 15 through October 31. Note that the Allaire family campsites and shelters have recently been closed for a bathroom and shower construction project, so confirm status before booking. Heckscher State Park camping runs on a warm-season schedule tied to the New York State Parks calendar, generally late May through early September. Shoulder weeks in May, September, and early October bring cooler temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and easier reservations. Winter closes most beach-area facilities, though Liberty Harbor RV Park stays open year-round for travelers focused on New York City.

Sites near Woodsburgh lean rustic rather than resort-style. Floyd Bennett Field has a mix of tent and RV sites, restrooms with showers, and a small camp store, with basic supplies and firewood for sale on site. Watch Hill offers sand tent sites and safari-tent glamping reached only by ferry or private boat, with a bathhouse, general store, and food concession on site. Heckscher provides 67 sites with restrooms, showers, a dump station, and picnic tables, but no electric, water, or sewer hookups. Allaire offers tent and trailer sites with fire rings, flush toilets, showers, and a seasonal RV dump station, also without hookups. Liberty Harbor RV Park is the closest option with full hookups. Mosquitoes and gnats can be heavy in mid-summer near the bays, so bring repellent. Cell service is generally reliable across the region.
