Campgrounds and RV parks near Carrington, ND

Fishing drives most trips into the region. Devils Lake is known for walleye, perch, white bass, and northern pike, and Grahams Island State Park hosts national and regional fishing tournaments and operates a bait shop, four-lane boat ramp, and fish cleaning station. Woodland Resort and other lake operators run guide services for anglers who want a chartered day on the water. Non-fishing options include hiking and birding on Grahams Island's ash and oak woodland trails, wildlife viewing at nearby White Horse Hill National Game Preserve, and swim beaches on the lake. Families staying at Spirit Lake Casino and Resort RV Park have access to an indoor four-story atrium pool with a waterslide, a marina, and on-site dining. In Carrington itself, the city park district maintains ballfields, tennis courts, and a disc golf course.

The prime RV window in central North Dakota is roughly mid-May through late September. Summer highs sit in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, daylight stretches to nearly 16 hours in June, and thunderstorms are common through the growing season. Peak fishing months on Devils Lake are July and August, so book Grahams Island, Woodland Resort, and Spirit Lake Casino and Resort RV Park sites well in advance for summer weekends. Shoulder seasons trade weather variability for availability. Spring can bring late snow into April and muddy access roads; fall delivers cooler nights, waterfowl hunting, and quieter campgrounds through October. Winter is severe. Comfort stations and water at state park campgrounds are generally not available before mid-May, and Devils Lake area operators typically shut water service at sites after November 1. Grahams Island is one of the few non-seasonal campgrounds in the area, with groomed cross-country ski trails and ice fishing access through the winter.

Sites in the Carrington area lean practical rather than resort-style. Expect gravel or grass pads, 30-amp service at most parks, and 50-amp full hookups at the larger Devils Lake properties. Grahams Island offers a mix of premium full-hookup, modern electric-and-water, and primitive sites, with a dump station, showers, flush toilets, and a dog park on-site. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Carrington and around Devils Lake, weaker on the more remote prairie roads. Winds are a constant factor on the plains, and the elevated embankment road onto Grahams Island can be exposed during high-wind advisories. Mosquitoes peak in June and July after wet springs, so bring repellent. Pets are welcome at all the listed campgrounds on leash, and Grahams Island has a fenced off-leash dog park between its campgrounds.
