Berlin camping overview
Berlin is a small borough in Somerset County in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, sitting at roughly 2,300 feet of elevation. It lies about 75 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and just 11 miles southeast of Somerset, which puts RV travelers within short drives of the Great Allegheny Passage, Flight 93 National Memorial, and several state parks.
Campground options near Berlin range from private family parks to a large public reservoir campground. Rainbow Woods Campground, Woodland Campsites Inc, Boyers Pond Campground, and Hickory Hollow Campground are the closest private options, while Quemahoning Family Recreational Area serves as the only public access to the 900-acre Quemahoning Reservoir and operates as a full-service campground.
The broader Laurel Highlands region features multiple state parks with established campgrounds, including Laurel Hill, Kooser, and Ohiopyle State Parks, offering a mix of wooded tent sites, RV hookups, and rustic cabins within an hour's drive. That mix makes Berlin a practical base for RV travelers who want hookups one night and a state park loop the next.
Things to do around Berlin
Water recreation centers on the Quemahoning Reservoir. The Que Family Rec Area serves as the only public access to the 900-acre Quemahoning Reservoir and operates as a full-service campground, with a swim beach, fishing pier, and boat launch. Visitors can enjoy swimming, hiking, and fishing, or venture into nearby towns for local dining.
On land, the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail runs through the region and connects Pittsburgh with the C&O Canal Towpath toward Washington, D.C., drawing cyclists and long-distance riders. Somerset Historical Center, Flight 93 National Memorial, and Seven Springs Mountain Resort are all within a short drive.
Families staying at Hickory Hollow Campground or Rainbow Woods Campground often combine a day at the reservoir with a bike leg on the Passage or a state-park hike at Laurel Hill or Ohiopyle.

Booking two to three months ahead is advisable for holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
A $3.50 processing fee is charged for all reservations at Quemahoning Family Recreational Area, and bookings are handled through the quefamilyrec.com reservation portal. What to expect on the ground
Sites near Berlin skew wooded and rustic rather than resort-style. The Que Family Rec Area has over 30 different tent campsites, from heavily wooded to sites right on the lake with small boat access, with all sites a short walk from the shower house and water. Its 28 RV sites accommodate pop-up campers, fifth-wheel trailers, travel trailers, and motorhomes, with each site providing a firm packed pad, fire ring, picnic table, and 110V / 30 amp electric service, and sites 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 27 and 28 also have 50 amp service, with sewage dump and water nearby.
Cell coverage is inconsistent across the Laurel Highlands, so downloading maps and confirmations before arrival is wise. Roads into some campgrounds involve narrow rural turns and grades typical of the ridges, so larger Class A rigs should confirm access with the campground before booking.
