Campgrounds and RV parks near Clymer, PA

Yellow Creek State Park is the anchor attraction, with a 720-acre lake used for boating, fishing, and swimming from a sand beach, plus mountain-bike and hiking trails on the north and south shores. The park is also an important rest stop for migrating birds, which draws birders in spring and fall. The Ghost Town Trail, a rail-trail totaling 46 miles across Indiana and Cambria counties, is well suited to family biking and easy walks, passing preserved iron furnaces and remnants of former coal-mining towns along Blacklick Creek. Off-road riders head to Rock Run Recreation Area near Patton, which offers about 140 miles of ATV, UTV, and dirt-bike trails across roughly 6,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains, with routes ranging from beginner to challenging.

Most campgrounds in the Indiana County area operate from mid-spring through mid-fall, with only limited winterized options available in the off-season. Rock Run Recreation Area follows a similar pattern: the riding area is open April through October, with Friday-through-Sunday operations in April, May, and October and Wednesday-through-Sunday operations from June through September. Summer weekends fill fastest. Yellow Creek State Park accepts reservations up to eleven months in advance, and its lakeside cottages and yurts near McFeaters Cove are among the first sites to book out for peak weekends. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and, in autumn, strong foliage in the Allegheny hardwoods. Late spring is typically the wettest stretch, so shoulder-season campers should pack for rain. Winter camping is limited to year-round cabins and yurts at Yellow Creek and a few private sites; most standard RV loops are closed.

Sites range from full-hookup pads at private resorts to primitive spots at Rock Run and standard loops at Yellow Creek. Big rigs fit comfortably at several private parks, but back-in sites and mixed service levels are common at state and recreation-area campgrounds, so length and hookup details should be confirmed at booking. Pennsylvania state parks enforce quiet hours between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m., and transporting firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited to limit the spread of invasive insects such as spotted lanternfly and emerald ash borer. Cell coverage in and around state parks is unpredictable, so downloading park maps in advance is recommended. Bears, deer, and other wildlife are active in the surrounding forests. Food should be stored securely, and campfires must stay within designated rings.
