Camping near Lilly, Pennsylvania
Lilly sits in Cambria County in the Allegheny Mountains of west-central Pennsylvania, roughly midway between Altoona and Johnstown. The surrounding highlands offer a mix of state park camping, private RV parks, and off-highway vehicle areas, making the region a practical base for families renting an RV.
The closest state park option is Blue Knob State Park, which offers year-round wilderness adventures on 6,128 acres of woodland in the northwestern tip of Bedford County, west of I-99, with Altoona, Johnstown and Bedford within 25 miles. The park is named for Blue Knob, the second highest mountain in Pennsylvania at 3,146 feet, and elevation keeps summer temperatures cooler than in the valleys below.
Other nearby options include Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, Glendale Valley Campground, and Rock Run Recreation Area. Together, these give renters a range of choices from quiet wooded state park sites to full-hookup private parks and OHV-focused campgrounds.
Things to do around Lilly
Blue Knob State Park anchors the area's outdoor recreation. The park is a popular destination for families to enjoy fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, and downhill skiing, with overlooks and trails climbing the second-highest peak in the state.
Off-highway riders head north to Rock Run Recreation Area near Patton. Located in Patton, Pennsylvania, Rock Run offers 140 miles of diverse trails across 6,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains, making it an ideal spot for ATV, UTV, and dirt bike riders. The trail system provides enjoyment and challenges for the everyday driver to the most extreme OHVs.
Beyond the trails, the region offers rail-trail biking on the Ghost Town Trail, fishing on Glendale Lake at Prince Gallitzin State Park, and drives to the Flight 93 National Memorial and Horseshoe Curve in Altoona. Wrights Orchard Station Campground and Glendale Valley Campground work well as family basecamps between activities.

Summer is peak season. The campground fills quickly during peak season, requiring advance reservations, especially on holiday weekends. Elevation helps in July and August, since the elevation of the park can cause air temperatures to be several degrees cooler than the surrounding cities.
Winter brings heavy snow. Annual snowfall averages about 12 feet, which supports downhill skiing at Blue Knob All Seasons Resort but closes most tent and RV sites. Fall foliage in late September and October is a strong shoulder-season draw for RV travelers.

The camper was well stocked, clean, and comfortable. This is the 2nd time we rented from mike and he is very accommodating. Next time ill have to remember not to pack so much. They even thought of is when the nights got cold and brought us another propane tank, just in case, and we didnt even have to ask. Thanks Mike, for another wonderful fall adventure.

Shawn and Melinda made it easy to hold a memorable Penn State tailgate, even for someone like me who is new to RV rental. The Beaver Stadium RV lot didn’t have RV hookups so they made sure we had water and extra gas for the generator. They thought if every detail. The RV was super clean and well-stocked. They had excellent communication and were so friendly and helpful. I would 100% rent from them again.

This was my first time renting an RV and it was the smoothest process! The hosts were in contact with me before delivery so I knew exactly when they would arrive. They were so friendly and set up the entire camper and gave me a tour. We had an awesome experience, thank you!

How to book campgrounds near Lilly
Pennsylvania state park sites are booked through the state reservation system. Reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, though reservations can also be made for today's date. Some sites may be available only from the campground on a first-come-first-served basis, so it is worth calling the park to check availability.
Private campgrounds such as Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, and Glendale Valley Campground typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites. For Rock Run Recreation Area, camping is tied to OHV use: camping is available for riders only, with 16 spots with electric and over 100 primitive spots. Book summer weekends and event dates several weeks out.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of wooded mountain sites and open-field layouts. At Blue Knob, sites are in open fields and wooded areas, with two walk-in sites, and most sites have electric service, and water, a sanitary dump station, modern restrooms, and playground equipment are available. Rocky terrain and the mountain location make it notably cooler than surrounding areas.
Rock Run is a rider-focused park. Featuring 16 electrified campsites with both 30 and 50 amp hookups, sites are 80 feet in length and approximately 30 feet wide, and all sites are pull through. Water is available on the way in and a dump station has been added, so plan to arrive with a suitable hose and fresh water in the RV tank.
Private parks in the area generally offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, and family amenities.
