Campgrounds near New Florence overview
New Florence sits in Westmoreland County along the Conemaugh River, at the northern edge of the Laurel Highlands in southwestern Pennsylvania. The area draws RV travelers with a mix of private lakeside campgrounds and Pennsylvania state parks, all within roughly an hour of Pittsburgh and Johnstown. Route 711 and US 22 provide the main access, and most parks sit within short drives of Ligonier, Latrobe, and Somerset.
Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing is a close private option with a stocked lake and a small stream running through the property. Quemahoning Family Recreational Area sits on the 900-acre Quemahoning Reservoir and provides the reservoir's only public boat launch, plus tent sites, RV sites, and rustic cabins. Lakeside at Keystone State Park is set directly on the 78-acre Keystone Lake in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, while Woodland Campsites Inc offers another private option in the broader Laurel Highlands area.
Farther south, Kooser State Park sits at an altitude of 2,600 feet on 250 acres bordering Forbes State Forest, useful for travelers wanting cooler summer nights and access to Laurel Mountain hiking.
Things to do near New Florence
Water recreation drives most trip planning in this corridor. The 78-acre Keystone Lake supports warm and cold water fishing, with common game fish including tiger muskellunge, largemouth bass, black crappie, yellow perch, and bullhead catfish, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocks trout prior to trout season in April. Gas-powered boats are prohibited on Keystone Lake, and the swimming beach is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Quemahoning Reservoir allows electric-only boating and has a designated swim beach. Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing keeps a stocked lake popular with families.
Hiking radiates from the Laurel Highlands. Short nature trails at Kooser State Park lead into wooded terrain, and Kooser Run is classified as high quality for trout fishing. Idlewild and SoakZone amusement park near Ligonier and the Flight 93 National Memorial east toward Shanksville are common day trips.

State park campgrounds follow long, but not year-round, seasons. Keystone State Park is open for camping from the first Friday in April to the third Sunday of October, and the Kooser State Park campground has 35 sites open from mid-April through mid-December, with most sites offering pull-through access. Private parks including Mirror Lake, Quemahoning, and Woodland Campsites generally operate from spring through fall; travelers should confirm exact opening and closing dates with each operator.
Summer is peak season. School-break weekends and holidays at Keystone and Kooser fill quickly, and the swim beach at Keystone runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Fall brings cooler nights and foliage color across the Laurel Highlands ridges. Shower facilities at Keystone may not be available after October 1.
Winter access is limited. Kooser stays open for camping into mid-December, and Keystone remains open for day use year-round, with ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing possible when conditions allow. Most private RV parks in the area close entirely during winter.

How to book campgrounds near New Florence
Pennsylvania state parks use a single reservation system. Reservations must be made three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation portal or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. This applies to both Lakeside at Keystone State Park and Kooser State Park. Booking as close to the 11-month opening as possible is advised for summer weekends and lakefront sites.
Private parks book directly. Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing accepts reservations through its own channels. Quemahoning Family Recreational Area is managed by Summer's Best Two Weeks and takes reservations by phone or online at quefamilyrec.com, with a processing fee applied per reservation. Woodland Campsites Inc books directly through its office for nightly and seasonal stays.
What to expect on site
Hookups vary by park. Kooser has 28 sites with electric hookups and seven non-electric sites, and five sites offer full service with sewer, water, and electricity. Keystone's Lakeside and Hillside campgrounds offer 30 and 50-amp electric sites with no individual water hookups; water faucets are located throughout the campground, and each loop has a modern bathhouse plus a sanitary dump station on site. Quemahoning has 28 RV sites with 30-amp service and select sites offering 50-amp, with a shared dump station.
Pet rules differ. Hillside Campground at Keystone is in a more remote area of the park and accommodates campers with pets, while pets are not permitted at Lakeside; the entire Kooser campground is open to pets under posted rules. Cell service is often weak inside state parks, so downloading maps and confirmations before arrival is recommended.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a standard, traveler-friendly cancellation policy to every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book. That means if plans shift or schedules change, you have built-in flexibility. Refund outcomes depend on how far in advance of your trip start date you cancel, and the full details are available in your RVezy account and the Help Center. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credit. Pro tip: lock in your New Florence RV trip early to grab the best rigs near Keystone State Park or Laurel Hill State Park, knowing you have a clear cancellation window if something unexpected comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in New Florence?
Yes, bring the pup! Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in New Florence, and you can find them in seconds by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. From there, message the host about your dog's size and any extra cleaning fee so everyone is on the same page. Once you're rolling, dogs are welcome on leash at Laurel Ridge State Park trails, around the lake at Keystone State Park, and along sections of the Great Allegheny Passage trail. Pro tip: pack a towel and a collapsible water bowl, since the rocky Conemaugh River banks near New Florence are a hit with adventurous dogs after a hike.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground near New Florence?
Yes, RV delivery in New Florence is one of the easiest ways to start a trip, especially if you are flying into Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) about 65 miles west. Many local hosts will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Keystone State Park, Laurel Hill State Park, or even a private driveway, set up the jacks and hookups, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and how delivery fees are calculated, usually per mile beyond a free radius. Pro tip: book delivery for your first time renting an RV so you can focus on relaxing, not leveling.
flypittsburgh.com/How far can I drive, and are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage?
You have great range from New Florence, and yes, several hosts on RVezy offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for longer loops through Pennsylvania and beyond. penndot.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near New Florence, PA?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near New Florence start with Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing right in town on Trout Run Drive, a relaxed spot with full hookups and stocked fishing ponds. Keystone State Park, about 15 miles west, offers electric sites, a swimming beach, and easy lake access. Laurel Hill State Park (around 30 miles south) is loved for clean facilities and a swimming lake, while Linn Run State Park sits just 20 minutes away with shaded creekside sites. For resort vibes with a pool, try Pioneer Park Campground in nearby Somerset County. Pro tip: state park sites release on a rolling 11-month window, so book Keystone and Laurel Hill well ahead for summer weekends.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/KeystoneStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to visit New Florence on an RV trip?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot for RV camping in New Florence. May through June brings comfortable 65 to 78 degree days, wildflowers along the Laurel Ridge, and fewer bugs than midsummer. July and August are warm and humid, with highs in the low 80s, ideal for swimming at Keystone Lake. But the real local secret is late September into mid-October, when the Laurel Highlands explode in red and gold foliage and overnight lows in the 40s make for perfect campfire weather. Winters are cold (highs near 30 degrees, around 40 inches of snow), so most campgrounds close by late October. Pro tip: book your fall foliage weekend by July, since leaf-peeper demand is real.
weather.gov/ctp/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I actually know how to use it?
You will, and faster than you think. Every RVezy host in New Florence provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, water hookups, slide-outs, propane, and waste tanks step by step. You can also message the host with questions before you even book, and many record a quick walkthrough video you can rewatch from the campground. Behind that, RVezy's customer support team and 24/7 roadside assistance are one tap away the entire trip. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or small travel trailer for your first time renting an RV near New Florence, since they drive much like a large truck and fit easily into Linn Run and Keystone State Park sites.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue on my trip?
You are covered. Every motorhome rental in New Florence booked through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the renter protection plan. If you get a flat on Route 711 heading toward Ligonier, a dead battery at a campground, or a mechanical hiccup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, one phone call dispatches help. RVezy's support team can coordinate with your host, arrange towing, and offer on-the-road advice. Cell coverage is solid along US 22 and the Turnpike but spotty deep in Forbes State Forest, so download offline maps before heading into the woods. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and tire size at pickup so any roadside call goes quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from New Florence?
You're in a sweet spot for an RV road trip from New Florence. Head 50 miles south to Ohiopyle State Park for whitewater on the Youghiogheny River and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Drive 75 miles west to Pittsburgh for a city night before looping back through Washington County wineries. Push 240 miles north and you're at Niagara Falls; 215 miles east takes you to Washington, D.C.; 300 miles brings you to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Travel into Canada is possible with host approval and proper paperwork, but trips into Mexico are not allowed on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: the Lincoln Highway (US 30) east through Ligonier and Bedford is one of Pennsylvania's most scenic RV-friendly drives.
nps.gov/frla/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a New Florence RV trip?
Fuel is easy to plan for once you know the numbers. Pennsylvania gas prices generally run a bit above the national average, often in the $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon range, with diesel similar. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) in a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG in a Class C, and 12 to 18 MPG when towing a travel trailer with a pickup. A 300-mile loop from New Florence to Pittsburgh, Ohiopyle, and back typically runs $90 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or GetGo stations along US 22 near Blairsville before heading into the Laurel Highlands, where prices climb at remote stations near Seven Springs.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Florence?
For Pennsylvania state parks, the magic number is 11 months. Keystone, Laurel Hill, Linn Run, and Ohiopyle all use the official PA State Parks reservation system at PennsylvaniaStateParks.reserveamerica.com, and prime summer weekends often sell out the day they open. Private parks like Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing in New Florence are typically more flexible (2 to 4 months ahead is usually fine), but holiday weekends still fill quickly. For shoulder-season stays in May or late September, you can often score a site with just 2 to 3 weeks notice. Pro tip: set a calendar alert exactly 11 months before your desired Friday night to grab a lakeside site at Keystone State Park.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around New Florence and the Laurel Highlands?
Driving here is rewarding once you know what to expect. New Florence sits in the rolling foothills of the Laurel Highlands, so roads like PA-711, PA-271, and the back routes to Seven Springs include grades, curves, and the occasional narrow bridge. US 22 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) are wide, well-maintained, and the easiest options for larger Class A motorhomes. Watch for low-clearance railroad underpasses in nearby towns like Latrobe and Blairsville (some are under 12 feet), and use a GPS set to RV mode. Winter brings snow and salt from December through March. Pro tip: plan mountain drives like the climb to Seven Springs for mid-morning, when fog clears and traffic is light.
511pa.com/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near New Florence?
Local campgrounds near New Florence are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Pennsylvania state parks like Keystone, Linn Run, and Laurel Hill offer electric hookups (20/30/50 amp at most sites), potable water spigots, dump stations, hot showers, and flush restrooms, though full sewer hookups at the site are limited. Private parks like Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing typically offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi near the office, laundry, and a camp store. Cell service is solid in town but patchy in Forbes State Forest. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving Mirror Lake or use the dump station at Keystone State Park to stay tank-ready for boondocking nights along the Allegheny Passage.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LaurelHillStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhat features and amenities come with a typical RV rental in New Florence?
You'll be impressed with what's inside. A typical campervan rental in New Florence or larger motorhome includes a queen or king bed, a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, climate control via roof air conditioning and propane furnace, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most RVs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor awning. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, or solar packages as add-ons. Pro tip: when you're comparing listings, check the Sleeps count and confirm seatbelted seats match your group size, especially for a family RV trip New Florence adventure with kids in car seats.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with my New Florence RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Common add-ons for a motorhome rental in New Florence include linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100), portable generators ($25 to $50 per night), bike racks, camping chairs, propane refills, and extra mileage bundles. Pickup usually happens at the host's home, with delivery as a popular alternative; just filter by Delivery on RVezy. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances often between 100 and 150 miles, plus unlimited-mileage hosts for road trippers. Pro tip: bundle a linen kit and a generator add-on if you're heading to a non-hookup site at Linn Run State Park, so you'll have power and bedding without packing half your house.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LinnRunStatePark/Pages/default.aspxHow do payment and security deposits work when I rent an RV in New Florence?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay directly through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. At booking, you will see the nightly rate, taxes, any add-ons, the protection plan fee, and the refundable security deposit clearly itemized. The security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good condition and within the agreed mileage. To avoid any holds, return the rig clean, with tanks dumped and fuel topped, and document the condition with photos at pickup and drop-off. Pro tip: keep your fuel receipts during your RV camping New Florence trip to make the return walkthrough quick and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in New Florence during the winter for a snow trip?
Yes, winter RV rentals are possible and seriously underrated in the Laurel Highlands. Some New Florence hosts keep their motorhomes available December through March with cold-weather packages: heated holding tanks, skirted underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power compatibility for plugged-in nights. With Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Hidden Valley both within 25 miles, you can ski by day and warm up in your rig by night. Many private campgrounds close, but Mirror Lake and select sites at Laurel Hill State Park offer winter access with reservations. Pro tip: ask your host specifically about heated tanks and minimum overnight temperatures before you book, and plan to plug into 30-amp shore power whenever possible to keep the furnace humming.
