Campgrounds and RV parks near Westmont, PA

Water recreation is the main draw at Quemahoning Family Recreational Area. The site serves as the only public access to the 900-acre Quemahoning Reservoir and operates as both a boat launch and a full-service campground. On-site amenities include a swim beach, nature trails, a fishing pier, a playground, and sports fields. Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing and Boyers Pond Campground add smaller stocked-water fishing options closer to the pond scale. Off the campgrounds, the Johnstown area anchors a dense trail and history network. Hiking and biking routes surround the Johnstown Inclined Plane, paddlers use the Stonycreek River for whitewater, and Gallitzin State Forest plus Laurel Ridge and Laurel Hill state parks all sit within about an hour's drive. The Ghost Town Trail, Path of the Flood Trail, and Johnstown Flood National Memorial are all reachable as day trips.

The camping season in the Westmont area is tied to mountain elevation, not the calendar. Sites in this region typically operate from mid-spring through mid-fall due to colder mountain temperatures, with some campgrounds requiring advance reservations during peak summer months. Quemahoning Family Recreational Area, for example, operates on a seasonal window that runs from May 1 through October 31. Summer is peak season. Weekend sites at lake-access campgrounds fill first, and holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day require booking well in advance. Spring and fall camping works best for travelers who prefer cooler weather, and fall brings hardwood color across the Laurel Highlands ridges from late September into mid-October. Winter is essentially closed to standard RV camping in this corridor. Private campgrounds shut down, water systems are winterized against freezing, and lake-access roads are not always plowed. Travelers planning a shoulder-season trip should confirm hookup availability and shower-house status directly with the campground before arrival.

Hookup levels vary. Quemahoning Family Recreational Area offers 28 RV sites suitable for pop-ups, fifth-wheels, travel trailers, and motorhomes, each with a firm packed pad, fire ring, picnic table, and 110V/30 amp electric service. Sites 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 27, and 28 also have 50 amp service. A sewage dump and water fill are nearby, with the shower house a short walk, but there is no water hookup at individual sites. Expect similar mixed-hookup layouts at the other nearby private campgrounds, with full hookups the exception rather than the rule. The camping culture in this corridor is family-oriented and quiet. Pets are generally allowed on leash, quiet hours are enforced, and stay-length limits are common. Cell coverage is inconsistent once RVs drop off the ridge into the reservoir and creek valleys, so download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving Westmont.
