Campgrounds near Alice, Texas
Alice sits in Jim Wells County in South Texas, about an hour inland from Corpus Christi Bay and roughly 15 miles from the shore of Lake Corpus Christi. The city is the county seat of Jim Wells County and was named after Alice Gertrudis King Kleberg, daughter of Richard King, who established the King Ranch. Alice works well as a base for RV travelers who want a quieter inland stopover with easy day trips to the Gulf.
Campground options in the area split into two categories. Private RV parks such as CM Nature's Own RV Resort, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, and Gulf Coast Quality Rentals cater to full-hookup rigs and longer stays. For a state-park experience, Opossum Bend at Lake Corpus Christi State Park sits between one of the park's two boat ramps and a fish cleaning station, and Corpus Christi Sunrise Beach provides a coastal alternative within about an hour's drive.
Most travelers combine an inland site near Alice with day trips to the lake, the bay, and Padre Island. The mix of freshwater fishing, coastal access, and standard RV-park amenities makes the area flexible for weekend trips and extended winter stays alike.
Things to do around Alice
Lake Corpus Christi State Park is the closest outdoor draw. Opossum Bend sits between one of the park's two boat ramps and a fish cleaning station, and the campsites come equipped with water and electric hookups. Fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie is the main activity, along with kayaking and swimming from the shoreline. There are plenty of places close to camp to take a quick dip before a lakeside sunset.
Hiking is limited but pleasant. Castle Trail loops the campground with views of the water and a close-up look at the limestone refectory, built by the Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
Day trips extend the options considerably. Corpus Christi, the Texas State Aquarium, the USS Lexington, and the beaches of Mustang Island and Padre Island National Seashore are all within about an hour. Alice itself offers small-town dining, grocery resupply, and easy fuel access on US-281 and TX-44.

South Texas seasons matter more than the calendar. Summers in Alice are hot and oppressive, winters are short, cool, and windy, and the temperature typically varies from 47°F to 97°F, rarely dropping below 35°F or rising above 102°F. The warmest month is August with an average high near 98°F, while January is the coolest month, with mild afternoon highs and cool nights.
Late fall through early spring is the sweet spot for RV travel. Mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity make this the period when Winter Texans fill the region's parks and monthly sites can be hard to secure. Weekends and holidays in the cooler months book fastest.
Summer trips are workable but demand shade, strong air conditioning, and early-morning activity. Camping in this coastal region requires consideration of weather patterns, particularly during Atlantic hurricane season from June through November. Campgrounds may close ahead of a storm, and low-lying campsites can become unsafe before the center of a storm arrives.
How to book campgrounds near Alice
Booking rules vary by operator. Lake Corpus Christi State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made for today and up to 5 months in advance. Weekends in the cooler months and holidays book fastest, so reserve as soon as your dates are firm.
Private parks such as CM Nature's Own RV Resort, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, and Gulf Coast Quality Rentals typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, and many offer weekly and monthly rates for extended stays. Coastal options such as Corpus Christi Sunrise Beach may follow county or municipal permit rules for beach access.
Before arrival, confirm rig-length limits, hookup amperage, and whether the site is pull-through or back-in. The park is open 7 days a week year-round, the gate is open from 7am to 10pm, and overnight guests must be in the park before 10pm on date of arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Alice is flat South Texas brush country: mesquite, live oak, and open grassland. Sites at private parks tend to be gravel or concrete pads with full hookups, while state-park sites are often more spread out with partial hookups. The Opossum Bend section has 19 electric and water sites that vary in size and can accommodate tents and campers or RVs from 30 to 45 feet.
Bring bug spray. Mosquitoes are active near the lake and along the coast, especially after rain and around dusk. Shade shelters help but summer heat still requires strong AC and awning use. Cell coverage is generally reliable along US-281 and near Alice itself, and more variable at the lake.
Stock up in town before heading out. Alice has full grocery, propane, and diesel service, and the drive to Lake Corpus Christi State Park or the Gulf beaches takes roughly 30 to 75 minutes depending on destination.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Alice%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Alice, TX?
A standard Texas driver's license (or any valid US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Alice. Texas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels under 26,001 pounds, which covers nearly every rig on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and your ID is verified through the RVezy platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your original home-country license keeps you road-ready for your Alice RV trip.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets its cancellation policy at the platform level, so you get consistent, fair terms on every Alice RV rental rather than host-by-host rules. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, and refunds after that depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy refunds you or helps rebook with travel credits. South Texas sits in a coastal weather zone, so that built-in flexibility matters during hurricane season. The full details are on RVezy's help center, but the bottom line is you're not stuck if life happens before your trip.

Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees, and bring proof of rabies vaccination, which Texas state parks require at check-in.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-corpus-christiCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Alice?
Yes, RV delivery in Alice is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you've never towed before. Many RVezy hosts offer delivery and setup, meaning they'll drop the RV at your driveway, a local campground like Paisano RV Park on Highway 359, or even a destination like Lake Corpus Christi State Park, then walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when you search to see hosts offering this service. Delivery fees usually scale with mileage (often $2 to $4 per mile round-trip), and it's the secret weapon for first-timers wanting a campervan rental Alice trip without the driving stress.
cityofalice.org/How far can I drive on a typical RV rental from Alice?

From Alice you can easily reach Corpus Christi (45 miles east), Padre Island National Seashore (about 85 miles southeast), San Antonio (140 miles north via I-37), South Padre Island (170 miles south), and Big Bend country if you've got a week. Pro tip: if your route hits multiple coastal stops, message the host and request an unlimited-miles upgrade upfront, often cheaper than per-mile fees.
nps.gov/pais/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Alice, TX?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Alice, TX include Paisano RV Park on Highway 359 (full hookups, 77 sites, family-friendly with a pool), Lake Corpus Christi State Park in Mathis about 25 miles north (waterfront sites, fishing piers, swimming beach), Lake Findley right in town for quick overnight stays, and Nature's Own RV Resort in Kingsville (30 miles southeast, close to King Ranch tours). For a quieter vibe, Wilderness Lakes RV Resort near Mathis sits on a stocked lake with shaded sites. Pro tip: South Texas snowbird season runs December through March, so reserve at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead during those months.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-corpus-christiWhat's the best time of year for an Alice, TX RV trip?
Here's the great part: Alice has one of the longest RV seasons in the country. October through April is hands-down the sweet spot, with daytime highs of 70 to 80°F, low humidity, and almost no rain, which is why South Texas is a snowbird magnet. November through March brings cool nights (40s to 50s) that are perfect for campfires. Summer (June to September) is hot, with highs regularly hitting 95 to 100°F, so AC and shaded sites become essential. Pro tip: book your RV camping Alice trip for late February or early March to catch wildflower season across the brush country, plus mild weather perfect for fishing on Lake Corpus Christi.
weather.gov/crp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Alice?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV in Alice is genuinely one of the easier places to learn. The roads around Jim Wells County are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked, with US-281 and TX-44 offering straight, open driving. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, hookups, brakes, and dump procedures, so you're never figuring it out alone. You can also message your host during the trip if a question pops up, and 24/7 roadside assistance is one tap away. Pro tip: if you're nervous, book a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer with delivery, and ask the host to demo the backup camera.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away anywhere around Alice or beyond. Flat tire on US-281? Battery issue at Lake Corpus Christi State Park? Lockout in town? Roadside dispatches a local pro quickly. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their rig best and can troubleshoot small quirks in real time. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup, it makes any service call faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Alice RV rental across state lines or to Mexico?
Absolutely, an RV road trip from Alice across Texas and into neighboring states like Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, or Arkansas is fully allowed on most RVezy bookings, just confirm with the host before you go. Travel into Mexico, however, is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection package and roadside coverage don't extend across that border, even though Alice sits just two hours from Laredo. Popular cross-state runs from Alice include New Orleans (about 9 hours east) and Santa Fe (about 13 hours northwest). Pro tip: message your host through the listing page to confirm route plans, and download the RVezy app for offline trip documents.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on an Alice RV trip?
Texas gas prices are your friend, fuel in the Alice area typically runs 30 to 50 cents per gallon below the national average, and diesel is widely available at truck stops along US-281 and I-37. For budgeting, expect a Class C motorhome rental Alice to get 8 to 10 MPG, a Class B campervan 14 to 18 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer about 10 to 12 MPG. A weekend loop to Padre Island and back (roughly 200 miles) usually costs $60 to $90 in gas. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Robstown on your way to the coast, lower prices and easier RV access than smaller stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Alice?
Easier than you'd think, but timing matters. For Texas State Parks like Lake Corpus Christi State Park, reservations open five months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and winter Texan season (December through March) books up fast, so reserve early. Private parks like Paisano RV Park or Nature's Own RV Resort in Kingsville usually have weekday availability within a week or two, even in peak season. For summer or holiday weekends, aim for 3 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: if you struck out on a state park site, check for cancellations 48 hours before, the TPWD system frequently releases inventory at that window.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Alice, TX?
Driving around Alice is refreshingly easy, the terrain is flat South Texas brush country with straight highways, wide shoulders, and minimal traffic outside of the morning Corpus commute. US-281, TX-44, and TX-359 are the main RV arteries and all comfortably handle big rigs. Watch for two local quirks: sudden coastal thunderstorms in late summer that can drop visibility quickly, and white-tailed deer crossing rural roads at dusk and dawn (Jim Wells County is famous deer country). Hurricane season runs June through November along the Gulf, so check the National Hurricane Center forecast before coastal side trips. Pro tip: avoid driving US-281 between 4 and 6 PM on Fridays heading toward Corpus, weekend beach traffic stacks up fast.
drivetexas.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Alice?
You'll be comfortable, most campgrounds near Alice offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), and many include cable TV and Wi-Fi. Paisano RV Park has a pool, laundry, and pull-throughs that handle 40-foot rigs easily. Lake Corpus Christi State Park provides water and electric sites plus a centralized dump station and potable water fill point near the entrance. Most private parks around Alice and Mathis sell propane on-site too. If you're boondocking, the closest free dump stations are at select truck stops along I-37. Pro tip: confirm 50-amp availability when booking if your RV has dual AC units, the South Texas heat makes that second AC non-negotiable from May through September.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-corpus-christi/park_infoWhat's actually inside the RV I'm renting in Alice?
More than you might expect. A typical RV rental in Alice, TX comes fully equipped: a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink; a bathroom with a shower and toilet; sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on the floorplan; a roof-mounted air conditioner (critical in South Texas); a furnace for winter nights; and seatbelts for safe travel. Most listings include a TV, and many feature a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays. Class A and Class C motorhomes often have outdoor kitchens and awnings too. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the listing photos for a built-in outdoor shower, perfect for rinsing off after a day at Padre Island.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvs-recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Alice?
Hosts offer a lot of flexibility. Popular add-ons for RV rental Texas trips out of Alice include linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100), generator hours for boondocking ($3 to $5/hr beyond the included allowance), bike racks, outdoor chairs, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home or storage lot in Alice, and many offer delivery to Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Paisano RV Park, or even Corpus Christi addresses. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 free miles per night, others offer unlimited. Pro tip: book the host's linen-and-kitchen bundle on your first trip, it saves a packing headache and they often throw in camp chairs.
visitjimwellscounty.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for an Alice RV rental?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Alice, TX through RVezy, your payment is processed safely through the platform, never directly to the host. A security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's size and value) is held separately from your booking payment and released after the trip, assuming no damage or policy violations. To keep things smooth, take date-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and drop-off, return it with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and stay within your mileage allowance. Pro tip: sharing return photos with your host often speeds up deposit release.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle the South Texas summer heat in my RV?
With a little planning, summer in Alice is very manageable. July highs can hit 100°F, but modern RVs are built for it. Look for listings with dual roof AC units or a 50-amp service hookup, which lets both ACs run at once without tripping breakers. Park in shaded sites (the live oaks at Lake Corpus Christi State Park are gold), use reflective window covers during peak afternoon hours, and run the generator or shore power to pre-cool the cabin before you settle in. Driving early morning or after 6 PM also eases the load on engine cooling. Pro tip: a family RV trip in Alice in October or March delivers 80°F days and mild afternoons without the August grind, plus lower nightly rates.
