Campgrounds near Chilton
Chilton is a small community in Falls County, Texas, roughly 20 miles south of Waco along U.S. Route 77. Its central-Texas location puts travelers within an easy drive of Waco attractions, the Brazos River corridor, and several full-hookup RV parks serving traffic moving between Dallas and Austin along I-35.
RV options close to Chilton include Flat Creek Farms RV Resort north of town near Waco, Patriot RV Park, Riverview Campground, and Brazos Trail RV Park. These privately owned parks focus on full-hookup pull-through and back-in sites suitable for travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A rigs, and they generally accept online reservations through their own websites.
For a state-park experience, Mother Neff State Park sits about 30 miles southwest of Waco and offers hookup sites plus a historic CCC lodge. It is a common pairing with a night or two at a private park closer to Chilton for travelers who want both amenities and public-land trails on the same trip.
Things to do near Chilton
Waco anchors most day trips from Chilton. Popular stops include Magnolia Market at the Silos, the Dr Pepper Museum, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, and Baylor University, all within a short drive north on I-35. McLane Stadium hosts Baylor football in the fall and is a common draw for travelers timing a trip to a home game.
Closer to camp, Flat Creek Farms RV Resort offers on-site ponds, farm animals, and walking areas that work well for families with younger kids. Mother Neff State Park adds several miles of hiking trails, wildflower prairies, a Tonkawa rock shelter, and CCC-era stone structures. The Brazos River and Lake Waco round out options for paddling, shoreline fishing, and picnicking.

Central Texas around Chilton has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and very hot summers. August is among the warmest months, with average highs in the mid 90s and overnight lows in the mid 70s. January is the coolest, with highs in the upper 50s and overnight lows near 40, though hard freezes do occur several nights each winter.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. Wildflowers bloom in April and May, and Mother Neff State Park is busiest on weekends in spring, early summer, and fall. Late spring and early fall also bring the wettest months, with May and October typically posting the highest monthly rainfall totals and thunderstorms common along frontal boundaries.
Summer trips are workable but demand shade, strong A/C, and early-morning outdoor plans. Winter is the quiet season: parks stay open, snowbirds arrive for longer stays, and freeze events can briefly affect water hookups, so plan for heated hoses on cold nights.

Absolutely amazing experience! We had so much fun, and there was plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. Communication with the owner was excellent! They were very responsive and flexible with both pickup and drop-off. We’d definitely rent from them again if the opportunity comes up!

The RV was as advertised everything works and didn’t get to meet Dan but his son Andrew explained everything.
Don D. - Jun 2026
Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!! First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes! Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside! We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!

How to book campgrounds near Chilton
Private parks near Chilton, including Flat Creek Farms RV Resort, Patriot RV Park, Riverview Campground, and Brazos Trail RV Park, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Weekends tied to Baylor football, graduation, and major Waco events fill first, so book those dates several weeks out and confirm rig-length and slide-out clearance before arrival.
Mother Neff State Park is reserved through the Texas State Parks system. Standard campsites open five months in advance, while the CCC Lodge can be booked up to twelve months out and requires a two-night minimum for any stay that includes a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. Day-use entry passes are separate from camping fees and can be reserved online up to one month ahead.
What to expect
Most parks near Chilton are open-country Texas properties with wide sites, gravel or grass pads, and 20/30/50-amp full hookups. Flat Creek Farms RV Resort, for example, has creek-side and pull-through options, on-site laundry and showers, and a farm setting with livestock and stocked ponds. Cell service is generally reliable along the I-35 corridor.
Expect strong sun, occasional severe weather, and warm nights from late spring through early fall. Central Texas sees thunderstorms with hail and the occasional tornado warning during spring, so monitor NWS Fort Worth alerts. Wildlife around private farms and state parks includes deer, armadillos, and snakes, so keep food secured and pets on leash.
Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Waco or Temple rather than in Chilton itself.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Chilton, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Chilton, TX?
RV rental in Chilton is one of the more affordable ways to explore Central Texas, with most travel trailers booking between $90 and $160 per night and Class C motorhomes typically between $175 and $275 per night on RVezy. Campervans and smaller rigs often come in lower, making a cheap RV rental in Chilton easy to find for weekend trips. To save more, aim for midweek pickups, look for hosts offering delivery to Mother Neff State Park or Lake Whitney, and avoid Texas school holidays when demand spikes. Pro tip: filtering for Instant Book listings often surfaces hosts who discount weekday gaps in their calendar.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chilton%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Chilton, TX?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Chilton for personal use. Texas exempts recreational vehicles driven for personal use from Commercial Driver License (CDL) requirements, and virtually every RV on RVezy falls under the 26,000 pound threshold that would trigger a non-commercial Class A or B license. On RVezy, approved drivers must generally be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens inside the booking flow so there is no paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you are set for your Chilton RV trip.

Every RV rental in Chilton booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can head out on Highway 7 or I-35 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage at checkout, not the host, so you stay in control of how much extra protection you want. Coverage tiers are clearly explained during booking, which removes the financial worry that stops many first-time renters. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers at checkout so you can pick what fits your route, whether that is a quick run to Waco or a longer Texas Hill Country loop.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Chilton RV trip plans change?
Booking is low risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. Beyond that window, refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is, with clear tiers shown before you confirm. Because the policy is platform-wide, you will see the same protections on every Chilton listing, with no host-by-host fine print to decode. Pro tip: book early to lock in your preferred RV and dates, since the grace period gives you breathing room if plans change in the first few days after booking.

Bring a tie-out, plenty of water, and pickup bags. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet details and ask about shaded sites, since August highs in the Chilton area average around 96 degrees Fahrenheit and your dog will thank you.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to me in Chilton or a nearby campground?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options on RVezy in Chilton, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig down FM 413 or US-77. Many hosts will deliver to your driveway in Chilton, to Mother Neff State Park (about 30 miles west), to Lake Whitney State Park (about an hour north), or to private property in Falls, McLennan, or Bell counties. They will level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Pro tip: use the Delivery filter and message the host with your exact campsite number so they can quote an accurate delivery fee, which is usually priced per mile from their home base.

Pro tip: Texas State Parks open reservations five months out and fill quickly for spring weekends, so book your Mother Neff site as early as possible.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mother-neffWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Chilton?
The sweet spot for a Chilton RV trip is mid-March through late May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the 70s to mid-80s and bluebonnets or fall color brighten the countryside. Summer (June through August) is hot, with August highs averaging around 96 degrees and heat index values often pushing past 100, so plan early-morning drives and pick an RV with strong AC. Winters are mild, with January highs near 57 and only rare overnight freezes, making it a quiet season for snowbird-style getaways. Pro tip: aim for the Texas Bluebonnet bloom in early April for unbeatable photo stops along FM roads between Chilton and Marlin.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and first time renting an RV in Chilton is actually a friendly place to start. The terrain around Falls County is flat to gently rolling, the rural highways like US-77 and TX-7 are wide and lightly trafficked, and you're far from any tight downtown driving. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: leveling, propane, slides, water, waste tanks, generator, the works. You can also message the host before booking with any questions, and RVezy customer support is available before and during your trip. Pro tip: do a short practice loop on quiet FM 413 or FM 1373 before heading to the highway, 20 minutes of low-speed driving builds huge confidence behind the wheel.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat happens if something breaks down during my Chilton RV trip?
You are covered: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking through the renter protection plan, whether you are parked at a campsite outside Marlin or pulled over on I-35 near Waco. One phone call connects you to help for tire changes, lockouts, battery jumps, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. For RV-specific issues like a stuck slide-out or a fridge that will not cool, your host is your first call, they know their rig inside and out and can usually walk you through a fix in minutes. Pro tip: snap photos of your RV's serial plate and propane tank during your walkthrough, having that info ready makes any roadside call faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Chilton RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is welcome on most RVezy bookings, so an RV road trip from Chilton can easily roll into Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or New Mexico without extra paperwork, since the protection plan follows you across U.S. state lines. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across the border. If you are heading to Canada on a long northern loop, message the host directly to confirm before booking, since cross-border Canadian travel depends on the individual host. Pro tip: popular multi-state routes from Chilton include the Hill Country to Big Bend loop and a Gulf Coast run down to Galveston and South Padre.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel budget for a motorhome rental in Chilton?
Budgeting fuel for a motorhome rental in Chilton is straightforward. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon on gas, Class A coaches average 6 to 10 mpg, and campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 mpg. Diesel pushers fall between 8 and 14 mpg. Texas gas prices generally run below the national average in the Waco/Falls County area, with diesel a bit higher. For a typical weekend covering 250 miles in a Class C, plan on roughly $80 to $110 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: fill up at Buc-ee's in Temple or H-E-B fuel stations along I-35, both consistently among the cheapest options near Chilton.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Chilton?
For Texas State Parks like Mother Neff and Lake Whitney, reservations open five months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and spring weekends (March through May) plus fall weekends often book up within days of opening. Private parks like Thousand Trails Lake Whitney and Hackberry Acres in Clifton usually have more flexibility, and you can often find midweek openings just a week or two out. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) are the toughest, book those the moment the five-month window opens. Pro tip: if your dream site is full, set up an alert on the Texas State Parks reservation page, cancellations are common as the trip date approaches.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Chilton?
Driving an RV around Chilton is about as easy as Texas gets. The roads are flat to gently rolling, traffic is light on rural routes like FM 413, TX-7, and US-77, and the nearest interstate (I-35) is just 20 minutes west with wide lanes and good shoulders. Watch for spring thunderstorms from April through June that can bring heavy rain and occasional hail, and be alert for deer at dusk on county roads. Summer afternoon heat can stress older tires, so check pressures before you roll out. Pro tip: if you're heading into Waco or Austin during weekday rush hour, time your drive before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m., I-35 through Temple and Waco is notorious for slowdowns from ongoing construction.

Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi is sometimes included via a host-provided hotspot, and cellular coverage around Chilton is generally strong. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count on RVezy to match the rig to your group, then check the listing photos for the kitchen layout, that detail makes or breaks a family trip.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chilton%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, never directly with the host. You pay your rental total (nightly rate, fees, and chosen protection plan) by credit card when you book, and a separate refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup. The deposit is released after a smooth return, usually within a few days of trip end. To avoid deposit issues, take dated photos and a short video of the RV's interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off, return the rig with the same fuel and propane levels, and follow the host's dumping instructions. Pro tip: do the walkthrough with the host on camera, both of you will appreciate having a clear baseline if any question comes up later.

An RV road trip from Chilton puts some of Texas's best scenery within an easy day's drive. Top picks include Waco and Magnolia Market at the Silos (about 30 miles, 40 minutes), Austin and the Hill Country wineries (about 110 miles, around 2 hours), Lake Whitney for boating and swimming (about 60 miles, just over an hour), Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area (about 170 miles, 3 hours), and Galveston Island's Gulf Coast beaches (about 220 miles, around 3.5 hours).
