Campgrounds and RV parks near Presidio, TX

Presidio sits on the Rio Grande in far West Texas, at the western edge of the Big Bend region. It serves as the west entrance to Big Bend Ranch State Park, the largest state park in Texas at roughly 311,000 acres, managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park covers rugged Chihuahuan Desert terrain along FM 170, the River Road, and stretches from southeast of Presidio to near Lajitas. RV options range from full-hookup private parks in town to primitive river-corridor sites inside the state park. Loma Paloma Golf Course and RV Park and BJ's RV Park serve travelers who want hookups and easy access to Presidio's services. East of town along FM 170, Grassy Banks, Madera Canyon, and South Leyva are river-corridor sites within Big Bend Ranch State Park, offering direct Rio Grande access with no hookups. Most travelers use Presidio as a base for exploring both Big Bend Ranch State Park and, farther east, Big Bend National Park.

Sites inside Big Bend Ranch State Park, including Grassy Banks, Madera Canyon, and South Leyva along the river corridor, are reserved through the Texas State Parks reservation system, or by calling the Big Bend Ranch reservation line at 512-389-8919. Same-day reservations can only be made by park staff. All campers must check in at either Fort Leaton State Historic Site in Presidio or the Barton Warnock Visitor Center in Terlingua before proceeding to a site. A per-person daily entrance fee applies in addition to the campsite fee. Private parks in town, such as Loma Paloma Golf Course and RV Park and BJ's RV Park, are booked directly with the operator. Peak-season weekends and holiday weeks fill early, so reserve well in advance.
