Campgrounds near Simonton, Texas
Simonton sits in western Fort Bend County along the Brazos River, roughly 40 miles west of downtown Houston. The area is flat, rural, and dotted with small ranches, which makes it a practical staging point for RV travelers who want quick access to Houston without paying for a metro-area site. Interstate 10 runs a short drive to the north, and US 90 and FM 1093 provide the main east-west routes into and out of the region.
RV options within a short drive include Houston West RV Park, Summer Breeze USA RV Resort, Summer Breeze RV Resort, and Kathy's Kampground and Storage. These private parks tend to carry full hookups and long-stay sites aimed at both travelers and monthly guests.
For a state-park experience, Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site is the closest public option. It sits along the Brazos River near San Felipe and offers a mix of full-hookup RV sites, water-only sites, tent sites, and screened shelters, plus trails and a historic townsite next door.
Things to do around Simonton
Most trip planning here centers on the Brazos River corridor and day trips into Houston. At Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site, visitors can hike or bike a network of trails, fish the Brazos, and watch for white-tailed deer and a wide variety of birds. The neighboring San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, headquarters for Stephen F. Austin's original colony, has a museum that tells the story of the early Texas settlers.
Houston day trips are easy from a Simonton base: the Museum District, Space Center Houston, and the Houston Zoo are all within about an hour. Families also drive south to Brazos Bend State Park to look for alligators and use its observatory on public viewing nights.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Simonton. March through May brings warm days, blooming wildflowers, and steadily rising humidity, while October and November cool off and typically deliver the clearest skies of the year. Both shoulder seasons see strong weekend demand at Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site, so booking early matters.
Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through September, and the region sits inside the Atlantic hurricane belt, whose official season runs from June 1 to November 30. Tropical systems can force short-notice closures at river-adjacent parks and can bring days of heavy rain well inland.
Winters are mild but wet. Freezes happen but rarely last long, and campgrounds generally stay open year round. Standing water is possible throughout the state park after heavy rainfall, and trails may be closed when they are muddy or otherwise in poor condition, so contact the park to check on conditions before you visit.

Tee RV was exactly as described and just what we needed to take our Aunt and Uncle on a "bucket list" trip. Josh was truly helpful and honest and very easy to communicate with. If all our rental experiences were as this one was , we wouldn't own anything, just rent!!

Great experience renting from Josh! He was friendly, responsive, and made the whole process very easy. The RV had everything we needed and was exactly as described. Josh also took the time to explain everything during the walkthrough, which made us feel very comfortable before the trip. Highly recommend renting from him!

How to book campgrounds near Simonton
Private parks in the area, including Houston West RV Park, Summer Breeze USA RV Resort, Summer Breeze RV Resort, and Kathy's Kampground and Storage, are booked directly with the property by phone or through their websites. Long-term and monthly stays are common at these parks, so nightly availability can be tight; call ahead rather than relying on drive-up.
Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site is reserved through Texas Parks and Wildlife. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to five months in advance, while the group hall and group camp can be reserved up to twelve months in advance. The park often reaches capacity and recommends reservations for both camping and day use; to guarantee entry, reserve passes online or by calling the customer service center before you visit.
What to expect on arrival
At Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site, the gate is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Campers with reservations who expect to arrive after 10 p.m. should call park headquarters before 1 p.m. on the day of arrival. Late arrivals stop at the kiosk outside the front office, obtain a map, fill out a self-pay envelope, and attach the white copy to their windshield. Generators are not allowed, quiet time runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and pets cannot be left unattended.
The full-hookup RV loop offers pull-through sites with picnic table, fire ring, water, sewer, and electric hookups, with restrooms and showers nearby and checkout by 12 p.m. Private parks near Simonton generally provide 30/50-amp service, sewer, and Wi-Fi, but shade and site width vary, so confirm rig-length limits when booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Simonton, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Simonton, TX?
RV rental in Simonton is affordable compared to Houston-area hotels and vacation homes. Most travel trailers run about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes typically range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes can reach $300 or more. Because Simonton sits along the Brazos River near Fulshear, you'll find a healthy mix of family-sized rigs ideal for weekend getaways. For a cheap RV rental in Simonton, book Sunday through Thursday, avoid Houston Rodeo weekends in late February and early March, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead usually locks in the best rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Simonton,TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Simonton, TX?
A standard Texas driver's license (or any valid US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Simonton. Texas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers used for personal recreation, even for larger Class A rigs. To book on RVezy, the approved driver generally needs to be 25 or older, and you'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country along with your original license. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised by how simple the paperwork is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Simonton protected if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RV rental in Simonton booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, giving you peace of mind without needing to arrange separate coverage. During checkout you can choose from different protection levels so the coverage fits your comfort level and budget. This is especially reassuring for first-time renters or anyone planning a longer Texas Hill Country loop. Pick your plan, hit the road, and focus on the trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Simonton RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and the policy tier shown at checkout. If a host cancels your booking, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit so your plans aren't left in the lurch. The Houston area can see tropical storms between June and November, and RVezy support can help you sort things out if the unexpected happens. The takeaway: reserve early to lock in the rig you want, and contact support if life changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Simonton RV rental?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rentals in Simonton are easy to find: just use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching. Many Fort Bend County hosts welcome dogs and some include extras like pet beds or outdoor mats. The surrounding area is dog-friendly too: Brazos Bend State Park (about 35 minutes south) has leashed-pet trails through wetlands, and Stephen F. Austin State Park near San Felipe welcomes dogs on its riverside trails. Keep pets leashed and bring extra water in summer when heat indexes can top 100 degrees F. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (often $25 to $75) and you're ready to roll.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/brazos-bendCan the RV be delivered to my campground or property in Simonton?
Yes, RV delivery in Simonton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip towing a 30-foot trailer on I-10. Many local hosts will deliver to nearby campgrounds like Brazos Bend State Park or Stephen F. Austin State Park, or to a private property or family ranch in the Fulshear and Katy area. They'll level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination for an exact quote. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per mile round trip.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/brazos-bend/fees-facilitiesHow far can I drive on a Simonton RV rental?
Pretty much anywhere in Texas and beyond. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and many include 100 to 150 free miles per night with affordable overage rates (often 30 to 50 cents per mile). Some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for bigger loops. From Simonton you're well positioned for a great RV road trip: Galveston Island is about 80 miles southeast (1 hour 45 minutes), Austin is about 165 miles west, San Antonio is about 215 miles, and Big Bend National Park is roughly 575 miles for the ultimate adventure. Filter by mileage allowance to match the policy to your route.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Simonton,TexasWhere are the best campgrounds near Simonton, TX?
You're spoiled for choice within an hour of Simonton. Brazos Bend State Park (about 35 miles south) is famous for alligator viewing and the George Observatory, with full-hookup sites and clean shower buildings. Stephen F. Austin State Park near Sealy (25 minutes west) offers riverside sites with 30/50-amp hookups along the Brazos. Lake Conroe / Houston West RV Resort is a popular full-amenity park about an hour northwest. Closer in, Matagorda Bay Nature Park sits roughly 90 minutes south on the Gulf. Pro tip: Texas state park sites book up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, so set a calendar reminder the day reservations open.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austinWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Simonton?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Simonton is mid-October through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s to upper 70s and humidity drops noticeably. March and April bring wildflower season (bluebonnets along FM 1093 are stunning), while October and November deliver crisp mornings perfect for campfires. Summer is doable, but real talk: June through August routinely hits 91 to 95 degrees F with heat-index values that can top 110, so look for a rig with strong AC and shaded sites. Winter is mild and underrated, with January highs around 60 degrees F. Book shoulder-season weekends 6 to 8 weeks ahead for the best weather and pricing.
weather.gov/hgx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually be okay?
Yes, and first time renting an RV in Simonton is easier than you'd expect. Every booking starts with a hands-on walkthrough where your host shows you how to operate the slide-outs, awning, generator, water systems, propane, and dump valves. You'll leave with their contact number and the confidence you didn't have an hour earlier. If you'd rather not drive a big rig, choose Delivery and the host will set everything up at your campground. Simonton's flat rural roads (FM 1093 and FM 1489) are a gentle place to get comfortable behind the wheel before tackling bigger highways. Most first-timers say the hardest part was simply deciding to book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, or mechanical issue is just one phone call away from help. Your host is also typically the first contact to text and most are quick to troubleshoot small issues. Near Simonton you've got service centers along the Westpark Tollway and I-10 in Katy, plus a Camping World in Katy for parts and quick fixes. Snap photos of the RV at pickup, save the roadside assistance number to your phone, and you're set for a stress-free Texas adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Simonton RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is welcome. From Simonton you can comfortably road trip into Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or New Mexico. Popular routes include the 5-hour drive east to New Orleans, the run northwest to Carlsbad Caverns, and the loop through Hill Country wine country in Fredericksburg. One important note: travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stop at the US border. If Big Bend or South Padre Island are on your list, both are great options within Texas. Confirm your itinerary with your host through the platform messages so they know your planned route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Simonton RV trip?
Texas often has some of the more affordable fuel prices in the country, which makes a motorhome rental in Simonton even more budget-friendly. Houston-area regular unleaded typically runs around $2.80 to $3.40 per gallon, with diesel usually 30 to 50 cents higher (check the EIA for current prices). Realistic fuel economy: Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, Class A rigs 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $140 in fuel. Buc-ee's locations in Katy and Wharton have huge RV-friendly pumps and competitive prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Simonton?
Sooner is better, but you've got more flexibility than you might think. Texas state parks (Brazos Bend, Stephen F. Austin, Galveston Island) release reservations up to 5 months ahead through Texas Parks and Wildlife, and prime weekends from October through April fill up quickly, especially near Houston. Private RV resorts often open bookings 6 to 12 months out. For summer weekday stays you can sometimes find sites just a week ahead. Set a reminder for the 5-month-out date for state parks and have a backup park picked. Then book your RV, and Simonton becomes your perfect launchpad.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around Simonton?
Driving around Simonton is some of the easiest in greater Houston. The town sits on flat coastal prairie, with wide rural roads like FM 1093 and FM 1489 that are very RV-friendly. Plan around two things: Houston rush hour on I-10 and the Westpark Tollway (avoid 7 to 9am and 4 to 7pm headed east into the city), and summer thunderstorms that can drop heavy rain quickly between May and September. Watch for low-water crossings near the Brazos River after storms. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston forecast before long trips. Otherwise it's smooth, scenic, low-stress driving.
weather.gov/hgx/What amenities do campgrounds around Simonton offer?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Simonton are well equipped for a comfortable RV trip. Texas state parks like Brazos Bend and Stephen F. Austin offer 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, dump stations, hot showers, and flush toilets, though full sewer hookups at the site are less common. Private parks like Matagorda Bay Nature Park typically include full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. For dump and fresh water on the go, the dump station at Stephen F. Austin State Park is a reliable stop. Pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter just in case: your host usually provides them, but it's nice to confirm.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austinWhat's actually inside a typical Simonton RV rental?
More comfort than most people expect. A typical campervan rental in Simonton or Class C motorhome rental in Simonton sleeps 4 to 6 and comes equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge, freezer, 3-burner stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, furnace, and a TV. Many include a generator for off-grid power, an awning, and seat belts for every passenger (required by Texas law for everyone in the vehicle). Wi-Fi varies, so plan on a phone hotspot or pick a listing that specifies it. Every listing has photos and an amenities checklist, so you'll know exactly what's onboard before you book.
txdps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/safety-belts-child-passenger-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with Simonton RV rentals?
Hosts in Simonton offer useful add-ons that make trips smoother. Common options include linen and towel kits ($30 to $75), camping chairs and outdoor rugs ($15 to $40), generator use (often $3 to $10 per hour or a flat daily rate), propane refill, bike racks, kayak racks, and pet packages. Most pickups happen at the host's home in Simonton, Fulshear, or Katy, but Delivery is widely available and often the easiest option if you're flying into George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) or Hobby (HOU). Pickup and return times vary by host and are listed in each booking. Look for Instant Book listings if you want immediate confirmation rather than waiting on a host reply.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Simonton,TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Simonton RV rental?
Payment is handled fully through the RVezy platform, with no cash needed at pickup. You'll pay your rental total plus taxes and any add-ons securely online at checkout using a major credit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after the host confirms the rig came back in good shape. To avoid any deposit issues: do a walkthrough video at pickup with your host, return the RV on time with the same fuel level and propane, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it. Then you're back to planning your next family RV trip from Simonton.
