Campgrounds near Valley Mills, Texas
Valley Mills sits in Bosque County in Central Texas, roughly twenty miles northwest of Waco along State Highway 6. The town is a practical base for RV travelers who want quiet countryside at night and easy access to Waco attractions, Lake Waco, and the surrounding Bosque and Brazos river corridors by day.
Campground options in the area lean toward small, family-run RV parks and lake-focused sites. Hackberry Acres RV Park and Deer Crossing RV Park serve travelers looking for full-hookup sites close to town. Closer to the water, Parsons Marina, Lake Waco Marina, and Lake Waco Marina and RV Campground put boaters and anglers within walking distance of the ramp.
Lake Waco itself is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and offers six campgrounds with a mix of amenities and settings, from developed loops with full facilities to primitive sites. Between the Corps parks and private RV parks in Valley Mills and nearby Clifton, most travel styles are covered.
Things to do near Valley Mills
The lake is the main draw. Anglers on Lake Waco target catfish, crappie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and sunfish, and the shoreline holds submerged timber that keeps fish around year-round. Parsons Marina, Lake Waco Marina, and Lake Waco Marina and RV Campground all provide boat access, and public ramps around the reservoir make it easy to launch kayaks, ski boats, and fishing rigs.
On land, downtown Waco is a short drive for the Magnolia Silos, the Dr. Pepper Museum, Baylor University, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, and Cameron Park along the Brazos River. For a change of scenery, travelers can drive north to Meridian State Park or Lake Whitney for more hiking and lake time, or west into the edge of the Texas Hill Country.

The climate around Waco is subtropical, with mild winters and very hot, muggy summers. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, and mid-March through mid-April and mid-October through mid-November are typically the sweet spots for avoiding both summer heat and winter cold snaps.
Summer is peak booking season around Lake Waco despite the heat, with families concentrating trips between Memorial Day and Labor Day. From June through September the combination of high temperature and humidity makes the heat intense, and on the hottest days it can exceed 40°C (104°F). Shade, hookups with reliable power for air conditioning, and lake access matter most in this window.
Spring brings storms. Central Texas sits in a tornado-prone corridor, and severe weather peaks from April through June, with a smaller secondary risk in autumn. Heavy rain can also push lake levels up quickly, and officials have at times warned residents to stay clear of Lake Waco campgrounds, parks, and marinas during rapid rises. Winters are usually mild but do include occasional hard freezes.

Absolutely amazing experience! We had so much fun, and there was plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. Communication with the owner was excellent! They were very responsive and flexible with both pickup and drop-off. We’d definitely rent from them again if the opportunity comes up!

The RV was as advertised everything works and didn’t get to meet Dan but his son Andrew explained everything.
Don D. - Jun 2026
Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!! First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes! Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside! We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!

How to book campsites near Valley Mills
Federal campgrounds around Waco Lake are reserved through Recreation.gov, which lists six campgrounds and one permit for the lake as official reservations. Reservations typically open several months in advance, so peak-season visitors should book as early as possible and check individual facility pages for specific booking windows. Maximum stay at the Waco Lake project is 14 days in any 30 consecutive day period, regardless of campground.
Private parks in the area, including Hackberry Acres RV Park, Deer Crossing RV Park, and the marina-linked sites at Parsons Marina, Lake Waco Marina, and Lake Waco Marina and RV Campground, are booked directly with each operator by phone or through their websites. Holiday weekends and summer Fridays fill first, so lock in dates well ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a Central Texas mix of open pasture, live oak, and cedar, with limestone bluffs along the Bosque and Brazos rivers. Most private RV parks in and around Valley Mills offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service. Corps of Engineers loops such as Airport Park mix 50-amp electric and water sites, some with sewer hookups, screen shelters, and tent-only sites without electric.
Summers are hot, so shade at your site is worth prioritizing in July and August, and packing extra water is standard practice. Cell service is generally solid near the highways and lake, thinner in the more rural pockets. Wildlife includes deer, wild turkey, and a heavy songbird and raptor presence. Fire restrictions can appear during dry stretches, so check county burn-ban status before lighting a campfire.

Good news, a regular Texas driver's license, or any valid U.S. or Canadian license, is all you need to rent an RV in Valley Mills. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Valley Mills RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Valley Mills booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 6 with peace of mind. During checkout, you choose from multiple protection plan tiers, each covering physical damage to the RV at different coverage limits, so you can pick what fits your comfort level and budget. Hosts do not choose your coverage, you do. If you are new to RVing and planning to drive the winding farm-to-market roads around Lake Whitney, selecting a higher tier is a small price for a worry-free Texas RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Valley Mills RV trip?
Booking is low risk because every RVezy reservation comes with a clear cancellation policy set by RVezy, not the host, including a grace period right after booking. The exact refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel. If your plans for the Brazos River or Lake Waco change, reach out to RVezy support directly. Book early to lock in your preferred RV since Bosque County has limited inventory, knowing the grace period has your back.

Want to cross into another country? Travel to Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance, but most U.S. routes are wide open. fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.86How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure, everything happens right through RVezy. You pay the rental total at booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after your trip, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with the host at pickup, document any existing scratches or stains, and return the RV with fuel and tanks at the agreed levels. Returning the propane and generator fuel topped off helps avoid the most common reason for unexpected deductions.
