Campgrounds and RV parks near Windcrest, TX

The main draw is downtown San Antonio. The Alamo, the River Walk, the Pearl district, and the four southern Spanish colonial missions, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are all within a short drive. Families often pair this with SeaWorld San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, or the San Antonio Zoo in Brackenridge Park. For outdoor time closer to camp, a walking and biking trail runs along Salado Creek near the KOA, and the broader Salado Creek Greenway system links parks across the northeast side. Day trips into the Hill Country add tubing on the Guadalupe or Comal Rivers, swimming at Jacob's Well or Blue Hole in Wimberley, and hiking at Government Canyon State Natural Area or Enchanted Rock, which is an International Dark Sky Park with excellent night-sky visibility.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel here. March through May brings warm days, wildflowers along Texas roadsides, and the peak spring event calendar, including Fiesta San Antonio in late April. Fall runs comfortable into November and coincides with lower humidity and lighter crowds at Hill Country day-trip spots. Summer is hot. San Antonio averages 14 days a year of freezing weather, with freezing temperatures normally occurring from November to March, though most freezing nights are followed by a daytime thaw, and the city sees an average of 18 days a year with 100-plus degree temperatures. Shade and 50-amp service for air conditioning matter in June, July, and August. Winter is the quiet season locally but the busy season for snowbirds. Many private parks in the San Antonio area fill with monthly long-term guests from roughly November through March, so short-stay availability can tighten even when the weather is mild. The area receives moderate precipitation annually, with wetter conditions in the fall and drier winters, though heavy downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can occur in the warmer months.

Expect urban and suburban RV parks rather than wooded destination campgrounds. Sites in the Windcrest and northeast San Antonio area tend to be level, gravel or paved, and closer together than what a traveler finds at state parks or Corps of Engineers lakes. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, and Wi-Fi are standard. Some parks host a mix of transient and long-term residents. Green Tree Village North Park primarily serves longer-term residents rather than short-term campers, with gravel pull-through sites. In contrast, the San Antonio / Alamo KOA Holiday offers patio spaces, a pool, a stocked catch-and-release pond, a clubhouse with a cafe, a marketplace, a small pizza and wing counter, and reliable Wi-Fi with hubs scattered across the park. Traffic noise from IH-35, IH-10, and Loop 410 is a common trade-off for the convenient location. Bus service into downtown is available from several parks, which lets travelers avoid River Walk parking.
