Campgrounds and RV parks near Dahlgren Center, VA

Dahlgren Center sits on the south bank of the tidal Potomac River in King George County, Virginia, just across the US 301 Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge from Charles County, Maryland. The area is best known as home to Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, and the surrounding countryside is a mix of pine and hardwood forest, tidal creeks, and small waterfront communities. Fredericksburg lies about 25 miles west, and metropolitan Washington, D.C. is roughly a 90-minute drive north. RV campgrounds within a short drive fall into two clusters. On the Virginia side, private waterfront parks such as Aqua Land Campground sit near the foot of the 301 bridge, while Harbor View RV and Camping Resort offers full-hookup sites geared to longer stays. Goose Bay Marina and Campground provides another marina-based option nearby. Across the bridge in southern Maryland, two state-managed properties round out the options for RV travelers. Smallwood State Park, along Mattawoman Creek, offers a wooded family campground with electric and water hookups. Cedarville State Forest - Family lies farther inland near Brandywine and provides a quieter, forested loop with a mix of electric and primitive sites.

Maryland state park sites, including Smallwood State Park and Cedarville State Forest - Family, are reserved through the Maryland Park Service system at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by phone at 1-888-432-CAMP (2267). The booking window opens 365 days in advance of the arrival date on a rolling basis. Private campgrounds in the area, such as Aqua Land Campground, Goose Bay Marina and Campground, and Harbor View RV and Camping Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and dates tied to a fishing tournament on Mattawoman Creek can sell out weeks ahead, so lock in dates early and confirm RV length limits, since Smallwood caps rigs at roughly 30 feet and Cedarville at about 35 feet.
