Campgrounds near Floris, Virginia
Floris is a census-designated place in northwestern Fairfax County, Virginia, situated south of Herndon around the intersection of Centreville and West Ox roads, immediately east of Washington Dulles International Airport. Washington, D.C. lies about 25 miles to the east, making the area a practical staging point for RV travelers visiting the capital region without paying downtown parking.
Camping options are limited within the immediate Floris footprint, so most RV renters base themselves at parks a short drive west or south. Greenville Farm Family Campground, Inc. in Haymarket sits on a 200-acre working farm about 35 miles from Washington, D.C. near the Manassas Battlefield, while Hillwood Camping Park offers another private option in the same corridor. Brunswick Family Campground lies further out along the Potomac in Maryland.
For a more forested setting, Prince William Forest Park preserves approximately 15,000 acres including a major portion of the Quantico Creek watershed, representing the largest example of a piedmont forest ecosystem and one of the National Park Service's largest units in Virginia. The park contains Oak Ridge Campground - Prince William Forest Park and the separately operated Prince William Forest RV Campground.
Things to do near Floris
Frying Pan Farm Park, within the Floris Historic District, preserves a working farm operation in Fairfax County and draws families for its animal barns, tractor displays, and walking paths. It is a low-key stop that works well for a morning before heading elsewhere.
Prince William Forest Park offers the region's deepest outdoor menu. Hikers can explore 37 miles of foot trails, and bicyclists find 21 miles of paved roads including the 12-mile Scenic Drive, with minimal traffic and a 25 mph speed limit. Mountain biking is available on 10 miles of gravel fire roads, and the park has 30 orienteering courses. The South Valley, Oak Ridge and Farms to Forest Trails all begin at the campground entrance.
Washington, D.C. museums, Manassas National Battlefield Park, and Great Falls Park are all within roughly an hour's drive, giving families a mix of urban and outdoor day trips from any of the nearby campgrounds.

Great adventure for a novice. A little mixup on purpose of trip my not understanding that we were “boondogging” and not informing Owner so plumbing changes could be made to water supply so water would be available on our trip to Yale University and onward to Niagara Falls ON. Overall RV performed as expected. My two granddaughters my goddaughter the cat and the dog enjoyed our 1st RV venture. Looking forward to our next adventure and college evaluation searches. Owner was very responsive and helpful along the way. I’d like to say thanks for our first RV lesson.

Great Class B experience. This was our first Class B with a wet bath. It was nicely outfitted with cookware, towels, linens, pillows, and outdoor chairs, table, and large mat. The screen in the side door allowed us to open the sliding door while keeping the bugs out. Bob was supper responsive with great communications before and during the rental. We had a couple minor issues that he helped us work out quickly.

How to book
Reservations are required for all campsites at Oak Ridge Campground and can be made up to six months in advance, including the day of arrival, online at Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. Summer weekends typically sell out early, so travelers should reserve as soon as their dates are firm. Hookups are not available at Oak Ridge; full hookups are available at Prince William Forest RV Campground, run by a park concessionaire, which is the option for RV renters needing power, water, or sewer.
Private parks like Greenville Farm Family Campground, Inc. and Hillwood Camping Park are booked directly through the campground office by phone or their own websites. Brunswick Family Campground also handles reservations directly.
RV length limits apply at Oak Ridge: recreational vehicles may not exceed 32 feet in length, and trailers and fifth wheels are limited to 26 feet. Confirm rig dimensions before booking.
What to expect
Sites near Floris fall into two camps. National Park Service campgrounds inside Prince William Forest are wooded, quiet, and rustic, with picnic tables, fire rings, and flush-toilet restrooms. Each loop at Oak Ridge has a bathroom building, Loop B is the only one with showers, and there are no hookups in the campground, though drinking water is available near each bathhouse.
Private parks in the corridor, such as Greenville Farm Family Campground, Inc., offer a range from full-hookup pull-throughs to more spread-out water-and-electric sites in wooded back sections. Amenities include bathhouses and hot showers, water and electric hook-ups with 30 and 50 amp, a dumping station, camp store, laundry, swimming pool, and playground. Cell signal varies by carrier and location within each park.
RV renters should plan for aircraft noise if they camp very close to Floris itself, since the community borders Dulles International Airport. Parks further out in Prince William County or Haymarket are noticeably quieter.
