Campgrounds and RV parks near Hybla Valley, VA

Sightseeing centers on Washington, D.C. and the northern Virginia historic corridor. Mount Vernon, the George Washington Memorial Parkway, and the Mount Vernon Trail are all within a short drive, and the Smithsonian museums, National Mall, and Arlington National Cemetery are reachable by car or Metro. Huntley Meadows Park, operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority, sits inside the Hybla Valley area and has a wetland boardwalk and wildlife observation platforms that work well for a low-key family morning. On the campground side, expect boating, fishing, and hiking at the state parks. Smallwood State Park offers hiking trails, fishing, and boating, and the Sweden Point Marina has 50 boat slips with access to the Potomac River. Prince William Forest Park offers a large hiking and biking trail network through Piedmont woodlands, and Cherry Hill Park runs guided sightseeing tours from the campground into D.C.

The area has a four-season mid-Atlantic climate with hot, humid summers and cold, sometimes snowy winters. Peak camping demand runs from spring through fall, with cherry blossom season in late March and early April and fall color in October drawing heavy weekend traffic to D.C.-area parks. Several nearby campgrounds are seasonal. Cedarville State Forest's Campground is open from April to October. Campers are limited to 14 cumulative nights of camping in Maryland State Park campgrounds during any 21-day period, and persons who have stayed for 14 of 21 nights must vacate for at least seven consecutive days before re-registering. Oak Ridge Campground inside Prince William Forest Park is open March through November and accommodates tents, RVs and trailers. The concessionaire-operated Prince William Forest RV Campground and Cherry Hill Park operate year-round. Summer weekends and holidays fill first. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay at Maryland state parks, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum stay. Book several months out for cherry blossom season, Fourth of July, and October weekends.

Sites and amenities vary widely. Prince William Forest RV Campground offers paved pull-through sites with hookups, heated restrooms with hot showers, a swimming pool, laundry, and a dump station. Cherry Hill Park is a large family-oriented resort with full-hookup RV sites, pools, a splash park, a hot tub, a dog park, an on-site cafe, and shuttle service to Metro and D.C. tours. State park campgrounds are more basic. Smallwood State Park is a small, quiet campground with about 15 sites; all sites are electric only, with a water spigot at the bathhouse and a dump station at the entrance. Rigs up to 30 feet in length fit into the sites. At Cedarville State Forest, campsites on the inner loop are equipped with electric, sites on the outer loop are primitive, and blue water spigots are located throughout the loop. Expect wooded, sometimes uneven sites at the state parks, tighter access roads, and length limits at the National Park Service campgrounds. Bring leveling blocks and confirm rig-length limits before booking.
