Campgrounds and RV parks near Linton Hall, VA

Prince William Forest Park is the region's outdoor anchor, covering roughly 15,000 acres of Piedmont forest with hiking trails, paved and gravel bike routes, streams for wading, and interpretive programs tied to the Civilian Conservation Corps era. Day trips north lead into Manassas National Battlefield Park, where driving tours and walking loops cover the two battles of Bull Run. Washington, D.C. is reachable by car or by Virginia Railway Express from nearby Broad Run and Manassas stations, making Smithsonian museums and the National Mall a realistic day out. Closer to camp, families use the on-site pool at Prince William Forest RV Campground and amenities at private parks such as Hillwood Camping Park, and cast lines at stocked ponds and quiet creeks.

Northern Virginia has four distinct seasons. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable RV weather, with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity. Summer is warm and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and campground demand peaks around school breaks and holiday weekends. Winter is cool to cold, with occasional snow and ice events that can affect travel on rural roads. Seasonal access varies by property. Oak Ridge Campground in Prince William Forest Park operates on a seasonal schedule, opening in March and closing at the end of November, with reservations available up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. The campground has no hookups, so RV travelers who need power and water often shift to nearby options. Private parks such as Hillwood Camping Park and the Prince William Forest RV Campground operate year round, which is useful for shoulder-season and winter travel when Oak Ridge is closed. Peak-season weekends across the region fill quickly, so booking well ahead is advisable from late spring through October.

Site types vary widely across the area. Private parks tend to offer paved or gravel pads with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer, along with laundry and Wi-Fi. Hillwood Camping Park, for example, provides full hookup sites suited to both short visits and long-term stays. National park sites are more rustic. Hookups are not available at Oak Ridge Campground, while full hookups, a pool, and a laundry are available at the concessionaire-run Prince William Forest RV Campground. Potable water, restrooms with flush toilets, and shower facilities in Loop B are provided at Oak Ridge for self-contained rigs. Expect wooded, shaded sites at the national park loops and a mix of open and shaded sites at private parks. Deer, raccoons, and black bears occur in the region, so food should be stored securely.
