Campgrounds and RV parks near Strasburg, VA

The area's headline activity is paddling and tubing the South Fork and North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Local outfitters run shuttles from spring through early fall, and riverside campgrounds like North Fork Resort Associates and Gooney Creek Campgrounds provide direct water access for kayaks and inflatables. Hiking and scenic driving anchor the land-based itinerary. Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail run along the ridge to the east inside Shenandoah National Park, and the George Washington National Forest offers less-crowded trails to the west. Families staying at Skyline Ranch Resort or Bluffs at Cedar Creek Campground can combine on-site amenities with day trips to Luray Caverns, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, and antique shopping in downtown Strasburg.

It is a strong window for paddling but expect frequent rain showers and cool nights that still call for a heated RV. Private parks near Strasburg typically reopen for the season in March or April. Summer is peak season. Warm, humid days draw crowds to the rivers and to Shenandoah National Park, and weekend sites at popular campgrounds fill weeks in advance. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and biting insects are active near the water. Book early for holiday weekends.
