Campgrounds near Triangle, Virginia
Triangle sits along I-95 in Prince William County, Virginia, about 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The town is the front door to Prince William Forest Park, the National Park Service's third largest unit in Virginia and one of the largest remaining piedmont forest ecosystems in the region. The park protects roughly 15,000 acres of the Quantico Creek watershed, making the area a rare stretch of quiet woodland within easy reach of the capital.
RV travelers have two main options inside park boundaries. Prince William Forest RV Campground is a private concessionaire-run park with paved pull-through sites and full hookups, reached from Route 234 off I-95 exit 152. Oak Ridge Campground, run by the National Park Service, is a 100-site wooded loop that takes tents, trailers and smaller RVs but has no hookups.
Just outside the park, Aquia Pines Campground offers a private RV park along the Route 1 corridor. For families willing to cross the Potomac into southern Maryland, Smallwood State Park and Goose Bay Marina and Campground add waterfront camping on Mattawoman Creek and the Potomac.
Things to do near Triangle
Prince William Forest Park anchors most trip plans. The park has about 37 miles of trails, and the South Valley, Oak Ridge and Farms to Forest trails all begin at the Oak Ridge Campground entrance. Cyclists get 21 miles of paved roads, including a 12-mile Scenic Drive with a 25 mph limit, plus 10 miles of gravel fire roads for mountain bikes. A 3-mile paved family bike lane leads to the campground.
On the water, Smallwood State Park sits on Mattawoman Creek with a marina, boat launch ramps and a fishing pier, and hosts bass tournaments through much of the season. Goose Bay Marina and Campground gives direct access to the Potomac for fishing and paddling.
History stops include the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle and the restored Smallwood Retreat house across the river.

Smallwood State Park's campground is open year-round, though its youth group sites run only April through October.
