Ian was absolutely fantastic to work with. He guided us through the ins and outs of his trailer and how to use it. We even called him on his weekend off and he was happy to help us. I couldn’t have asked for a better host than Ian if I was ever going to rent another trailer again, which I am hoping to do in the near future, I will definitely be calling In and asking him to rent his trailer again. Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Perth, ON
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Perth, Ontario?
RV rental in Perth, Ontario is more affordable than you might expect. Travel trailers typically start around $125-$175 CAD per night, Class B campervans run roughly $175-$250 CAD per night, and Class C motorhomes generally range from $200-$300 CAD per night, with larger Class A motorhomes priced higher. To find a cheap RV rental in Perth, book mid-week stays in May, June, or September when demand cools off but the weather is still ideal for Rideau Lakes camping. Many hosts also offer multi-night discounts for stays of 5+ days, which is perfect if you're cottage-hopping through Lanark County. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings to lock in your dates without waiting for host approval, especially around the Stewart Park Festival in July when inventory moves fast.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Perth%2C%20OntarioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Perth?
Good news: your regular Ontario (or any provincial/state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Perth. There's no special RV permit, air-brake endorsement, or commercial license required for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers you'll find on RVezy. Approved drivers generally need to be 25 or older, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home country license (an International Driving Permit is recommended if your license is not in English or French). First time renting an RV in Perth? A Class B campervan or a 20-25 foot travel trailer towed by your own pickup is the easiest entry point for the winding country roads around Lanark County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance included with my Perth RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pick up the keys until you drop the RV off. The protection plan helps cover damages to the vehicle during your trip, giving you peace of mind whether you're navigating Highway 7 or backing into a site at Murphys Point Provincial Park. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers so you can choose the level of coverage that fits your trip during the booking process, and the coverage terms are set by RVezy, not by the individual host. Pro tip: match your protection level to your itinerary. A weekend at Last Duel Park feels different than a 10-day loop through Eastern Ontario and the Rideau Lakes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Perth RV booking?
Booking an RV trip to Perth is low-risk thanks to RVezy's cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after you book. The cancellation terms are set by RVezy (not by individual hosts), so you'll get consistent, fair treatment no matter which listing you choose. Refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy will help rebook you or provide a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for prime weekends like Canada Day or the Perth Garlic Festival, knowing the cancellation policy gives you flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Perth?
Absolutely, and Perth is one of the most dog-friendly small towns in Ontario. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Perth, so just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing listings and you'll see all the dog-welcoming rigs. Once you're here, your pup can join you on the Tay River Pathway, explore the Rideau Trail through town, and splash around at Murphys Point Provincial Park, where leashed dogs are welcome on most trails and at designated pet beaches. Stewart Park downtown is also leash-friendly for picnic breaks. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm pet fees and ask for tips on their RV's pet setup, like crate space or stain-resistant flooring, so check-in goes smoothly.
ontarioparks.ca/park/murphyspointCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Perth?
Yes, RV delivery in Perth is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip the towing and driving altogether. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at your reserved site at Last Duel Park, Murphys Point Provincial Park, Rideau Ferry Harbour, or even a private cottage driveway on Christie Lake or Big Rideau Lake. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through everything before handing over the keys. Pro tip: book your campsite first through Ontario Parks or the campground directly, then filter RVezy listings for Delivery and share your site number with the host so they can confirm length and access.
ontarioparks.ca/reservationsHow far can I travel on an RV rental from Perth?
Plenty far, and Perth is a fantastic launch pad for a Rideau Lakes RV trip or a longer Ontario road trip. Most hosts include a daily mileage allowance (typically 150-200 km per day) with extra kilometres available as a low-cost add-on, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. From Perth you're 60 km to Smiths Falls, 85 km to Ottawa, 110 km to Kingston, 175 km to Algonquin Provincial Park's southern gate, and about 400 km to Toronto. Pro tip: if you're planning an RV road trip from Perth along Highway 7 or up to Algonquin, message the host to negotiate a mileage package upfront. It's almost always cheaper than paying per-kilometre overages at the end.
ontario.ca/page/ontario-road-tripsWhere are the best campgrounds near Perth?
Some of the best campgrounds near Perth are right at your doorstep. Last Duel Park & Campground sits at 22 Craig Street in downtown Perth along the Tay River, with full hookups and walking-distance access to Stewart Park and Gore Street. Murphys Point Provincial Park, about 20 minutes south on Big Rideau Lake, is the local favourite for RV camping in Perth with electrical sites, swimming, and the historic Silver Queen Mica Mine. Sharbot Lake Provincial Park (45 minutes west on Highway 7) offers two beaches and big shady sites, and Rideau Acres in nearby Kingston is great if you're extending the trip. Pro tip: book Murphys Point five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation system, especially for July and August weekends.
ontarioparks.ca/park/murphyspointWhen is the best time to visit Perth in an RV?
The sweet spot for an RV trip to Perth runs from mid-May through mid-October, with each stretch offering something different. June brings warm 20-25°C days, blooming gardens, and quieter campgrounds before peak season. July and August are prime time with 25-28°C weather, the Stewart Park Festival, Perth Garlic Festival, and the busiest Rideau Lakes boating. September is arguably the best month: crisp 15-22°C days, autumn colours along the Tay River, and dramatically fewer crowds. Many local hosts also offer winter-ready rigs for ice fishing trips on Big Rideau Lake or cross-country skiing at Murphys Point, which stays open year-round. Pro tip: aim for the third weekend of September to combine fall foliage with the Perth Fair, one of Ontario's oldest agricultural fairs.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/index_e.htmlI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be more than okay, especially in a relaxed town like Perth where the roads are quiet and the campgrounds are forgiving. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, walking you through the propane, water systems, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures before you ever leave the driveway. First time renting an RV? Choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer for your maiden Perth RV trip. They're easy to maneuver on Highway 7 and fit comfortably in standard campsites at Last Duel Park or Murphys Point. Pro tip: message the host a few days before pickup with your questions, and ask them to record a quick video walkthrough you can replay at the campsite when you're trying to remember how the awning retracts.
ontario.ca/page/driving-and-roadsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. Whether you're parked at Murphys Point Provincial Park, cruising Highway 7 toward Ottawa, or near Christie Lake, one phone call gets help dispatched. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip if you have questions about the booking itself. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone the day you book, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and licence plate at pickup so you have the info handy if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Perth RV rental across the border into the US?
Cross-border trips from Perth to the US are possible on many RVezy rentals, since the closest crossings at Ogdensburg-Prescott (about 80 km away) and the Thousand Islands Bridge near Gananoque (about 100 km away) make the Adirondacks and upstate New York very doable. The key step is messaging the host before booking to confirm US travel is allowed on their specific listing, as insurance terms vary by owner. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: if you're planning a cross-border Adirondacks loop or a New England fall-colour run, bring your passport, vaccination records for any pets, and proof of the RV's insurance documentation, which your host will provide before departure.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.htmlWhat should I budget for fuel on a Perth RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but Perth is actually a budget-friendly base because gas stations are plentiful along Highway 7 and prices tend to run slightly below Ottawa rates. Expect roughly 18-25 litres per 100 km for a Class C motorhome and 12-18 L/100 km for a Class B campervan or a tow vehicle pulling a small travel trailer. With Ontario gas typically running $1.45-$1.65 per litre, a weekend round trip to Murphys Point and back costs under $30 in fuel, while a five-day Rideau Lakes loop through Smiths Falls, Westport, and Kingston usually runs $150-$225. Pro tip: fill up in Perth or Smiths Falls rather than at cottage-country stations farther north, where prices can jump 10-15 cents per litre.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Perth?
For provincial parks like Murphys Point and Sharbot Lake, book exactly five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation system, which opens reservations at 7:00 a.m. EST on the matching day five months before your arrival. That window fills fast for July and August weekends, so set a calendar reminder. Private campgrounds like Last Duel Park and Trillium Acres Resort are more flexible and often have sites available 2-4 weeks out, even in summer. Shoulder-season trips in May, late September, or October usually have availability within a week. Pro tip: if Murphys Point is full, check for last-minute cancellations daily after 7 a.m., and keep Rideau Ferry Harbour Park and Mal's Camping on Christie Lake as backup options.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are the driving conditions like around Perth?
Driving around Perth is genuinely relaxing compared to big-city RVing. Highway 7 is the main artery, a well-maintained two-lane Trans-Canada route with gentle curves and steady traffic, ideal for a motorhome rental in Perth. The town itself has a compact downtown with some narrow heritage streets, so larger Class A rigs are best parked at your campground while you explore by car or on foot. Country roads toward Westport, Maberly, and the Rideau Lakes can be hilly and twisty, so take it slow and watch for deer at dawn and dusk. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, when the Ministry of Transportation actively plows Highway 7. Pro tip: avoid Highway 7 on Sunday afternoons in summer when cottage traffic heading back to Ottawa and Toronto can slow things down.
511on.ca/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Perth?
Campgrounds around Perth range from rustic to fully serviced, and you'll find the perfect fit for your rig. Murphys Point Provincial Park offers 161 sites with electrical hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and potable water taps throughout the park. Last Duel Park & Campground right in town has full 30-amp hookups (water, electric, sewer at most sites) plus Wi-Fi and walking access to downtown shops. Sharbot Lake Provincial Park has electrical sites, two beaches, and a dump station near the main gate. For fresh water and dumping between trips, the Last Duel Park dump station is publicly accessible for a small fee. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-amp to 15-amp adapter, since some Ontario Parks sites have the water tap a bit farther from the pad than you'd expect.
ontarioparks.ca/park/murphyspoint/campingWhat's actually included inside the RVs on RVezy in Perth?
Perth RV rentals come surprisingly well-equipped, so you can pretty much show up with groceries and clothes. Most motorhomes and travel trailers include a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, basic cookware and dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa beds, heating and air conditioning, a TV, and propane for cooking and heat. Many listings also offer Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, outdoor BBQs, and folding chairs as add-ons. Each rig has seatbelts for the number of guests it's licensed to carry, which matters for family RV trip Perth planning. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section carefully and message the host about bedding, towels, and kitchen linens. Most Perth hosts include them, but it's worth confirming before you pack.
ontario.ca/page/camping-ontario-parksWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect from Perth hosts?
Perth hosts are known for being flexible, with popular add-ons including RV delivery and setup, generator use, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for the Tay River), camping chairs, BBQs, and linen packages. Pickup and drop-off times are set by each host on their listing, and many are happy to accommodate flexible timing if you message ahead. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many Perth hosts including a daily kilometre allowance and offering extra kilometres as a low-cost add-on. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book by sending the host a single message listing everything you want, including delivery to your campsite. They'll often package it at a better total price than booking each add-on separately.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Perth%2C%20OntarioHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your Perth RV rental is handled entirely through the RVezy platform, so there's no cash, no e-transfers, and no awkward conversations with your host. You'll pay your booking total upfront with a credit card, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host on each listing, and it's released back to you after drop-off once the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video of the RV at both pickup and drop-off, inside and out. It's the easiest way to ensure your full deposit comes back without any back-and-forth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RV rentals available year-round in Perth?
Yes, RV rental in Perth is available year-round, and winter rentals are a genuinely magical way to experience the Rideau Lakes. Many local hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and skirting kits that handle Eastern Ontario's -15 to -25°C winter temperatures. Winter renters typically park at private cottage properties with shore power, since most campgrounds close from mid-October to early May. Murphys Point Provincial Park stays open year-round for day-use cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and ice fishing on Big Rideau Lake is a popular January-February tradition. Pro tip: for a winter RV booking, filter for listings that specifically mention four-season or winter-ready, and confirm with the host that the rig comes with a heated water hose and a propane top-up plan for the trip.
