2025 East to West Travel Trailer
My family and I just returned from an unforgettable RV trip. We rented Randy & Kim's travel trailer and had it delivered to the Fort Custer Recreation Area near Kalamazoo, MI. The RV was literally brand new, very clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed. We really appreciated the spacious living area, kitchen, comfortable beds, outdoor awning and most of all - Kim's and Randy's hospitality. They made sure that we were always taken care of,- starting with proper & prompt communication, having the travel trailer set up & ready to walk into to a detailed walkthrough and ensuring that everything worked as it should. I highly recommend Randy & Kim! You can't find better hosts!!

We’ve not rented a RV in the past. The entire experience of renting the Yankee Traveler with Stu far exceeded our expectations. The RV was clean, spacious, and included everything we needed to make the most of our weekend camping trip. Stu was very prompt and kind in his responses via the RVezy app and the delivery process was quick. We’ll definitely rent with Stu and the Yankee Traveler next go around.

On RVezy, travel trailers in the Dorr area typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes sit at the higher end. What license do I need to rent an RV in Dorr?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Dorr. Michigan does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens right through the booking platform, so there is no paperwork hassle at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most first-time renters are surprised at how straightforward the process is: you book, verify, and you are set for your Michigan adventure.

Is RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?

Every RV rental in Dorr booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit US-131 with real peace of mind. What if my plans change after I book?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy across all listings, which includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund outcomes depend on factors like how far out you are from your trip start and extenuating circumstances such as natural disasters or severe weather, useful to know for a Michigan RV trip where lake-effect snow or summer storms can occasionally shift plans. Because the policy is set at the platform level rather than by individual hosts, the rules are consistent across Dorr listings. If something comes up, RVezy support can walk you through your options before, during, or after your trip.

When is the best time of year for RV camping in Dorr?

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Dorr, with typical daytime highs from the 70s to mid-80s F and warm Lake Michigan beaches just 40 minutes west. June and September are quieter and often cheaper, while July and August bring peak festivals including Holland events and Grand Rapids ArtPrize in the fall. Insider tip: book the weekend after Labor Day for still-warm water, quieter trails, and lower nightly rates.

I have never driven an RV. Is renting in Dorr a good idea for a first-timer?

Dorr is genuinely one of the friendlier places for first time renting an RV. The terrain is gently rolling farmland, US-131 is a wide, straight highway right next to town, and many local campgrounds have pull-through sites you will never need to back into. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slides, dump valves, and driving tips, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Can I take an RV road trip from Dorr across state lines or into Canada?

Indiana Dunes National Park is about 2.5 hours southwest, Chicago is about 3 hours, and the Upper Peninsula is a scenic 5-hour drive north over the Mackinac Bridge. Travel to Canada (Niagara Falls or Toronto via the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, about 3.5 hours east) is permitted by many hosts: message before booking to confirm cross-border permission. What is the fuel budget for a Michigan RV trip from Dorr?

Expect Class C motorhomes to get roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers to reduce your tow vehicle's MPG by 30 to 40 percent. Check current Michigan pump prices on the EIA site before your trip to estimate fuel for a 500-mile loop through Holland, Saugatuck, and South Haven. Fill up at the Meijer or Speedway just off the US-131 Dorr exit, which are typically among the more affordable options in the area.

How far ahead should I book a campground around Dorr?

Book early: summer camping in West Michigan is competitive. Michigan state park sites (Yankee Springs, Holland State Park, Saugatuck Dunes) open reservations up to 6 months in advance at midnrreservations.com and the best lakefront spots can sell out within minutes for July and August weekends. Private parks like Hungry Horse Family Campground in Dorr typically take bookings 3 to 6 months out, with holiday weekends going first. For a spontaneous trip, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays or shoulder months (May, September) when availability is wide open. Insider tip: set a calendar alert at 8 a.m. exactly 6 months before your target Friday for Michigan state parks.

What are the roads like for driving an RV around Dorr?

Dorr is genuinely RV-friendly. US-131 runs right past town as a wide 4-lane divided highway connecting you north to Grand Rapids (about 25 minutes) and south to Kalamazoo (about 40 minutes), and local roads through Allegan County are mostly flat, paved, and lightly trafficked. Watch for two things: spring potholes after winter thaw and Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural routes near Hopkins and Wayland, so slow down and give them plenty of room. Lake-effect snow can pop up November through March, so most renters stick to April through October. If you have a larger Class A, consider host delivery rather than driving into downtown Grand Rapids.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform, never directly to the host, so your booking, protection plan, and roadside assistance are all locked in at checkout. Most Dorr hosts require a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig), held by RVezy before pickup and released after a clean return. To avoid any deductions, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and follow the host's dump-tank instructions. Do this and you will get your full deposit back without a hitch.
