Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Lexington, SC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lexington, SC?
RV rental in Lexington, SC is one of the best values in the Southeast, with travel trailers typically starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes ranging from $175 to $275 per night. Larger Class A motorhomes and luxury fifth wheels can run $250 to $400 per night depending on size and season. For a cheap RV rental in Lexington, book midweek stays during March, April, or November when Lake Murray crowds thin out and hosts often discount weekly rates. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and message hosts about multi-night discounts. You can usually save another 10 to 15 percent by avoiding July 4th and Memorial Day weekends, when Lake Murray fireworks pull every camper out of storage.
experiencecolumbiasc.com/things-to-do/outdoors/lake-murray/What license do I need to rent an RV in Lexington, SC?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need for nearly every RV rental in Lexington, SC. South Carolina only requires a special Class E or F non-commercial license for motor homes with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 26,000 pounds, which is heavier than 95 percent of the RVs listed on RVezy. Travel trailers, Class B campervans, and Class C motorhomes you'll find around Lexington all fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork to chase down before you hit Lake Murray.
dmv.sc.gov/Driver-Services/Drivers-License/Non-Commercial-License---Classes-E-FIs my RV rental in Lexington covered if something happens on the road?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Lexington includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull onto I-20 or head out to Lake Murray with real peace of mind. You choose your protection tier during checkout, and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles and broader coverage. This is built into your RV rental in Lexington at booking, with no separate insurance to purchase. First-time renters tell us this is the moment they stop hesitating and start planning their Lake Murray sunset cruise.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lexington RV trip?
You have flexibility built in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every booking (hosts do not set this themselves), and the refund you receive depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Severe weather situations, which matter in the Midlands during Atlantic hurricane season from June through November, can be reviewed by RVezy support on a case-by-case basis. If a tropical system threatens your Lake Murray trip, message your host and contact RVezy support to walk through your options. Book the dates you want now and review the cancellation terms shown at checkout before you confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lexington?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Lexington welcome dogs and cats. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where hosts have opted in, often with a small pet fee to cover cleaning. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a towel for muddy paws after lake swims, and message your host ahead of time so they can leave extra floor mats out for you.
southcarolinaparks.com/dreher-islandCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Lexington?
Yes, RV delivery in Lexington is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you have never towed or driven a big rig. Many local hosts will drop the RV directly at Dreher Island State Park, Sesquicentennial State Park, or your driveway in Red Bank or Chapin, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees and free-delivery radius are set by each host and shown on the listing. Use the Delivery filter to instantly see hosts who offer this, and your only job becomes showing up with groceries.

southcarolinaparks.com/dreher-islandWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Lexington, SC?
Lexington is a year-round RV destination thanks to its humid subtropical climate, but the sweet spots are April through early June and mid-September through early November, when daytime highs land in the comfortable 70s and 80s and humidity backs off. July and August bring real heat with highs near 92 degrees F and high humidity, perfect for Lake Murray swimming but rough for hiking. Winter is mild with January highs around 55 degrees F and lows near 34 degrees F, making it great for shoulder-season deals and quiet campgrounds. Local insider tip: plan an October trip around Lake Murray fall fishing tournaments, when sites are still warm but the crowds have cleared out.
weather.gov/cae/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what to do?
You are going to be fine, first time renting an RV in Lexington is genuinely easier than people expect. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water system, and propane, and many hand you a written cheat sheet to take along. You can message the host directly through the platform with questions before booking, during your trip, or late at night when you cannot figure out the awning. If you want to skip driving altogether, book a host who offers delivery to Dreher Island or your backyard. Most first-timers say the second day feels totally natural.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy rental in Lexington includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering services like jump-starts, flat tires, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if something serious happens on I-26, I-20, or a back road near Lake Murray. One phone call gets help dispatched to your location, day or night. Your host is also just a message away through the platform for anything mechanical or system-related, and RVezy customer support backs both of you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup, save the roadside number to your phone, and you will be ready for anything.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Lexington RV trip?
Fuel is easier to plan than you'd think. South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, typically 30 to 50 cents below the national average, which is a real win for any motorhome rental in Lexington. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class C motorhomes, 6 to 8 MPG for Class A, and 12 to 18 MPG for campervans and tow vehicles pulling travel trailers. For a 300-mile round trip to Charleston and back, budget around $90 to $130 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up at Pilot or Love's on I-26 near Cayce before heading out, as in-town stations along US-378 in Lexington often run a few cents higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lexington?
For Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray, book the moment your dates open: the South Carolina State Parks system accepts reservations up to 13 months in advance, and the lakefront paved sites sell out fast for summer weekends, July 4th, and Memorial Day. Use the official reserve.southcarolinaparks.com site or call the state parks reservation line. Private parks like Barnyard RV Park and Edmund RV Park usually have more flexibility and can often be booked 2 to 4 weeks ahead, even in peak season. Insider tip: if Dreher is sold out, check back on Sunday evenings when cancellations get released back into inventory.
southcarolinaparks.com/dreher-island/campingWhat are driving conditions like around Lexington?
Lexington is one of the easier places in the South to drive an RV. The terrain is gently rolling with no mountain passes, and the main routes (I-20, I-26, US-378, and SC-6) are wide, well-maintained, and flat. Watch for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms that roll in fast between June and August, which can drop heavy rain and gusty winds (pull off and wait it out), and rush-hour traffic on I-26 between Lexington and downtown Columbia from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Avoid driving into downtown Columbia in a Class A. Stick to the I-26 and US-1 bypass, and Lake Murray is just 15 minutes from anywhere in town.
scdot.org/travel/travel-landing.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lexington?
Most campgrounds near Lexington offer the full setup you would want for RV camping. Dreher Island State Park provides paved sites with water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, hot showers, a dump station, and boat ramps right on Lake Murray. Private parks like Barnyard RV Park and Edmund RV Park offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric), laundry, and Wi-Fi. Dump stations are easy to find at Dreher Island and at most private parks for a small fee if you are just passing through. Potable water fills are standard at every campground. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking water hose and a 50-amp to 30-amp adapter and you will be ready for any site in the area.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lexington%2C%20SCHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking using a supported credit or debit card, never cash or money transfer to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (not the host) shortly before your trip and released back to your card after dropoff, typically within a few business days, assuming no damage. Deposit amounts vary by RV type and value and are shown on the listing before you book. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-around video at pickup and dropoff with your host, time-stamped photos are the single best way to make sure your full deposit comes back fast.
