Camping near Bowen Island

Bowen Island sits in Howe Sound, reached by a short BC Ferries crossing from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. There are no campgrounds on Bowen Island itself, so RV travellers typically base themselves on the mainland or the Sunshine Coast and treat Bowen as a day trip. The closest developed RV options cluster on either side of the ferry system. Capilano RV Park sits near the Horseshoe Bay terminal in West Vancouver, and Porteau Cove Provincial Park lies a short drive north on the Sea to Sky Highway. Langdale Heights RV Par 3 Golf Resort is close to the Langdale ferry terminal on the Sunshine Coast, with Roberts Creek Provincial Park and Klahanie Campground and RV Park offering further options in the same corridor. The Queen of Capilano leaves Horseshoe Bay for Snug Cove, with a crossing time of about 20 minutes, and tickets include return fare with no reservations, so arriving early matters, especially on summer weekends.

Things to do around Bowen Island

On the island, Crippen Regional Park frames Snug Cove with easy walking. Trails from Snug Cove reach Killarney Lake, passing Bridal Veil Falls and a beaver dam, and Mount Gardner is the island's signature hike with wide views over Howe Sound. On the water, sea kayaking from Snug Cove is a common half-day outing, and the sheltered coves suit paddlers with kids. Off the island, Porteau Cove is a popular area for stargazing and scuba diving, with a man-made reef and two sunken vessels. From spring to fall, marine wildlife around Porteau Cove can include orcas, gray whales, and humpback whales. Roberts Creek and other Sunshine Coast beaches add tide-pooling and cycling options within an easy drive of Langdale.

Summer is the clear peak. Peak season runs June through September, when the day-use beaches are busy and campgrounds fill up. April, May, September, and October offer milder weather with somewhat lighter demand, though popular waterfront sites still book out. Booking well ahead is essential for waterfront sites in Howe Sound and for the Sunshine Coast provincial campgrounds. Shoulder seasons trade some warmth for space. The Porteau Cove campgrounds have full services, including hookups, flush toilets, and hot showers, from March to early November, with partial services in winter. Roberts Creek Provincial Park is a seasonal operation that opens for the warm months only, so late-spring and fall trips should confirm dates before departure. Winter is quiet and wet. Winter camping is permitted at Porteau Cove, but services are limited, only portions of the campground may be vehicle-accessible, and access can be restricted by snowfall. Private parks like Capilano RV Park and Langdale Heights operate year-round for travellers who want a full-service base.

Mr Yi has been very helpful in sharing the information about the vehicle. For me it was the first experience. Mr Yi's inputs were very helpful. The vehicle was in a very good condition and my family enjoyed a lot. Mr Yi was very flexible and accommodative regarding the time. I will say it exceeded my expectations in all aspect. Thanks

We took an incredible, but quick, trip to Kelowna. The RV was absolutely perfect. It was outfitted with everything we needed. Everything worked pefectly and I specifically loved the size. We were able to park in regular parking spots making getting around Kelowna quite simple. We did a wine tour, fishing charter and a round of golf, all with this RV as homebase. Wudi was also fantastic, he had the RV fully ready for us on our arrival, even shined the tires! Thanks again Wudi, your hospitality was exceptional!

How to book near Bowen Island

Provincial parks in the area use one central system. Porteau Cove is 100 percent reservable through camping.bcparks.ca, and the same platform handles Roberts Creek and other BC Parks sites. For the 2026 season, BC Parks shifted from a four-month to a three-month rolling reservation window, so campsites can now be booked three months in advance, and popular sites fill quickly. Due to popularity and size of the campground, each person is permitted to camp at Porteau Cove for a maximum of seven nights per year. Private resorts book directly. Capilano RV Park, Langdale Heights RV Par 3 Golf Resort, and Klahanie Campground and RV Park all take reservations through their own websites or by phone. Travellers should confirm rig-length limits, model-year restrictions, and stay-length caps at the time of booking, as private parks near urban Vancouver often set their own rules.

What to expect near Bowen Island

Plan the trip around the ferry. Sailings run roughly hourly between Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove, with the earliest departure at 5:45 AM and the last at 11:00 PM. The Snug Cove ferry is a non-reservable route, so both foot passengers and vehicle passengers should plan accordingly and travel during non-peak sailings when possible. Larger RVs are best left at the campground; day-tripping on foot or with bikes is simpler. Campgrounds vary in feel. Porteau Cove is very busy in peak season, and the park has 44 electrified campsites plus 16 walk-in sites that are closely spaced. Adjacent train tracks are active and occasional noise disturbance may occur. Capilano RV Park is an urban park close to the Lions Gate Bridge, while Langdale Heights offers a quieter, terraced layout around a par-3 course on the Sunshine Coast. Come prepared with rain gear even in summer, and expect cool evenings near the water.
