Campgrounds and RV parks near Chandler, QC

The Parc du Bourg de Pabos site at the edge of Chandler offers nearly 20 km of trails for hikers and cyclists along Grand Pabos Bay, three beaches over one kilometre wide accessible for free, and a playground with water features. The Circuit des Bâtisseurs hiking and cycling trail connects the site to the municipality of Chandler via the bridge at the mouth of Grand Pabos Bay. Percé, about 40 minutes east on Route 132, is the regional anchor: boat cruises to Bonaventure Island for the northern gannet colony, the geopark suspended platform, and short hikes to Mont-Sainte-Anne. Forillon National Park lies further north and offers whale watching, the Les Graves trail, and views from the crests of the Appalachians. Closer to camp, expect beachcombing, cycling on the Route Verte, salmon and saltwater fishing, and access to lighthouses along the south shore.

The Gaspé camping season is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds in the Chandler area operate from mid-May or June through late September or mid-October, and Forillon National Park is in operation from late May to mid-October, with opening dates for campgrounds varying. Outside that window, services, dump stations, and water hookups are shut down and Route 132 sees winter conditions with snow and ice from late November into April. July and August are peak season. Summer long weekends including Fête Nationale in late June, Canada Day, and Labour Day in early September are especially busy, and the Quebec construction holiday in late July pushes demand higher. Sites fill weeks ahead, especially oceanfront pitches at Camping Cote Surprise and Camping Du Phare A Perce. June and early September are quieter, with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier same-week bookings. Black flies and mosquitoes peak from late May through early July. Fall colour generally arrives in the second half of September, and whale activity in the Gulf of St. Lawrence runs strongest from July through early October.

Chandler is a working coastal town, not a resort hub. Expect a grocery store, hardware, fuel, propane refill, and a few restaurants, with more limited services as you head east toward Percé or west along the Baie-des-Chaleurs. Cell coverage is generally good in town and along Route 132 but drops in interior sections and parts of Forillon. Most area campgrounds offer 30-amp service, with some 50-amp two- or three-service sites at Camping Du Parc du Bourg de Pabos. Dump stations are standard at private parks but limited along the highway, so plan refills and dumps before long stretches. French is the working language; many tourism-facing staff speak English, but signage and reservation forms are often French-first. Sea fog, cool evenings, and sudden wind shifts are common even in summer, so pack layers and secure awnings.
