Campgrounds and RV parks near Beale Air Force Base, CA

Fishing and watersports anchor most trips. Collins Lake plants more than 50,000 trout every spring and holds bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish, with water skiing and wakeboarding allowed during the warm-weather season. Lake of the Springs allows swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boats such as canoes and kayaks, with tennis and a swimming pool also popular on site. Beyond the lakes, RV travelers use the area as a base for exploring historic Gold Country towns, panning streams, hiking foothill trails, and day-tripping to the Bridgeport Covered Bridge and South Yuba River State Park. Auburn places guests within walking distance of a downtown historic district and within an hour of Folsom Lake, the American River canyons, and the I-80 corridor toward Lake Tahoe.

The foothills around Beale have a Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Most lakeside and membership parks operate year round because elevations stay below the typical Sierra snow line and above the worst of the valley tule fog. Late spring and early summer are the busiest stretches. Trout planting at Collins Lake draws weekend anglers in the cooler months, and Memorial Day through Labor Day brings peak demand for lakefront and full-hookup sites. It is not uncommon for Collins Lake to be fully booked on weekends four to eight weeks in advance, and a year ahead for some summer and holiday weekends. Weekend and holiday minimums are common, and prime lakefront pads can book months ahead. Fall offers warm days, cool nights, and lighter crowds, but late summer and early fall also carry elevated wildfire and smoke risk across Yuba, Nevada, and Placer counties. Check Cal Fire and local air-quality advisories before traveling. Winter brings the bulk of the annual rainfall, valley fog at lower elevations, and occasional storm closures of foothill access roads, though most parks remain open with reduced activity programming.

Expect foothill terrain: winding two-lane approaches, grades, and a few tight turns. Roads into Collins Lake are accessible for RVs and vehicles towing boats but include steep sections, so use the operator's directions rather than GPS shortcuts. Sites range from full hookups to water-and-electric and dry pads; not every lakefront spot has sewer, so plan for the dump station. Cell coverage at Collins Lake is decent for AT&T near the dam but thins in the canyons around Oregon House and Browns Valley, and the Thousand Trails property advises planning for limited connectivity. Summer afternoons routinely top the mid-90s Fahrenheit, so shade, awnings, and shore-power air conditioning matter. Bears are uncommon at these elevations, but raccoons and ground squirrels are active, so store food and trash securely.
