Campgrounds and RV parks near Biggs, CA

Lake Oroville is the main draw. At full pool the reservoir holds about 15,500 surface acres and 167 miles of shoreline, with boating, water-skiing, swimming, paddling, and fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, Chinook, catfish, and trout. The visitor center above the dam includes a museum and a viewing tower. Hikers can reach Feather Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in California at 640 feet, on a loop trail in Plumas National Forest east of town. Closer to Biggs, Gray Lodge Wildlife Area protects roughly 9,100 acres of wetlands on the Pacific Flyway, with an auto-tour loop and walking trails that draw large concentrations of waterfowl and sandhill cranes from fall through early spring. Table Mountain north of Oroville is known for wildflower walks in spring.

The Sacramento Valley around Biggs has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer highs in Oroville average in the mid-thirties Celsius and routinely top 100°F, so shaded sites, full hookups for air conditioning, and early-morning activity are useful. June through August is peak season for boating and water sports on Lake Oroville, and lakeside campgrounds book heavily on weekends. Spring is the best window for hiking, waterfalls, and wildflowers: Feather Falls runs high after winter rains, and Table Mountain blooms from March into May. Fall brings cooler temperatures, lower fire risk in most years, and the start of the waterfowl migration. Winter is mild on the valley floor but often foggy, with dense tule fog common in December and January. Rain is concentrated from November through March, and short-lived flooding can close refuge roads. It is also the prime season for birding at Gray Lodge and the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

Biggs is rural and quiet. Cell coverage is generally reliable along Highway 99 and around Oroville but can drop in the foothills near Lake Oroville and on refuge access roads. Valley campgrounds sit on flat, open ground with limited shade, while foothill sites at Lake Oroville have oak cover and steeper, winding access roads that larger Class A rigs should preview before towing in. Summer heat is intense and fire restrictions are common, so check current rules on campfires and generator hours before arrival. Mosquitoes are active near wetlands from late spring through early fall. Refuge auto-tour routes have soft shoulders that will not support an RV, so a tow vehicle or smaller car is the practical way to drive Gray Lodge and Sacramento NWR loops.
