Campgrounds near Bolinas, California
Bolinas sits on a small peninsula on the Marin County coast, about an hour north of San Francisco and directly south of Point Reyes National Seashore. The town itself has no developed RV campgrounds, so most renters base nearby and drive in for the day. Point Reyes National Seashore has no car camping in the park; its backcountry sites may only be accessed by hiking, biking, or horseback, so RV travellers stay at private parks within roughly thirty to sixty minutes of Bolinas.
Olema Campground, just up Highway 1 at the southern entrance to Point Reyes, is the closest full-hookup option and a natural base for exploring the seashore. Further south and east, toward Highway 101, Marin RV Park, Marin Park, Golden Gate Trailer Park, and Novato RV Park offer additional pull-through and full-hookup sites for travellers who want easier freeway access, grocery stores, and a shorter drive to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Things to do near Bolinas
Day trips from a campground near Bolinas centre on Point Reyes National Seashore. Limantour Beach and Drakes Beach are easy drives with parking and restrooms, and the Bear Valley Visitor Center has short, kid-friendly trails through forest and meadow. The Point Reyes Lighthouse and the elephant seal overlook at Chimney Rock sit at the western tip of the peninsula.
Closer to town, Agate Beach and the Duxbury Reef tide pools are walkable from central Bolinas at low tide. Stinson Beach, just across the lagoon, has lifeguards in summer and is the most family-friendly swimming beach in the area. Mount Tamalpais State Park rises to the east with redwood groves, fire roads for biking, and overlooks of the coast.

The Bolinas coast has a Mediterranean climate with a clear wet and dry split. From roughly November through March the area receives nearly all of its annual rain. Storms can flood low-lying roads, and Highway 1 between Stinson Beach and Muir Beach occasionally closes for slides. Winter is also the quietest season at private campgrounds, with easier last-minute availability.
Spring brings wildflowers across the Point Reyes grasslands and is one of the better windows for clear coastal views before the summer fog sets in. From June through August, a thick marine layer often covers Bolinas and the outer Point Reyes peninsula until midday, with inland temperatures much warmer. This is also the peak booking season; sites at Olema Campground and the Novato-area parks fill weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Late September and October are typically the warmest, clearest months. Elephant seal viewing at Chimney Rock peaks from late December into March, when adults return to the beaches to breed.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. They only gave the options of 5 stars so I'll leave the rest here : ✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️

How to book campgrounds near Bolinas
Private parks around Bolinas, including Olema Campground, Marin RV Park, Marin Park, Golden Gate Trailer Park, and Novato RV Park, each take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods book out well in advance, so renters should reserve as soon as travel dates are set.
Point Reyes National Seashore itself has no car or RV camping. Its hike-in and Tomales Bay boat-in sites are reserved through Recreation.gov on three-month and fourteen-day windows, with sites releasing at 7 a.m. Pacific time. Mount Tamalpais State Park and Samuel P. Taylor State Park, both within easy driving distance, take reservations through ReserveCalifornia up to six months ahead.
What to expect near Bolinas
Roads into Bolinas are narrow and winding. Highway 1 from Stinson Beach is paved but tight, with blind curves and limited turnouts; larger Class A motorhomes are slow going and should plan extra travel time. The town itself has very limited parking and no RV-specific facilities, so most renters park at the campground and drive a tow vehicle or bike into town.
Cell service is patchy along the coast and inside Point Reyes. Coastal fog and damp air are common even in summer, so warm layers and a rain shell are useful year-round. Wildlife is active: deer, coyotes, and raccoons are routine around campsites, and sealed food storage is expected. Wood fires may be restricted during fire season; check with the campground office on arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bolinas, CA
How much does an RV rental in Bolinas typically cost?
RV rental in Bolinas, CA is often more affordable than travelers expect, since you are renting directly from local owners rather than a big-fleet company. Expect campervan rentals around $95 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and travel trailers from $90 to $200 per night. Weekly bookings often unlock discounts of 10 to 20 percent, and shoulder-season trips in April, May, October, and early November are noticeably cheaper than peak July and August dates. For a cheap RV rental in Bolinas, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering delivery within Marin County. Midweek pickups frequently save more than Friday or Saturday starts.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bolinas%2C%20CaliforniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Bolinas, California?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bolinas for the vast majority of rigs on the platform. California only requires a Non-Commercial Class B license for motorhomes over 40 feet long or over 26,000 pounds, and a Non-Commercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is well above the typical Class C, campervan, and travel trailer rentals you'll find here. You must be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to hit Highway 1.

If you get a flat near Stinson Beach or a dead battery at the Bolinas Lagoon overlook, one call brings help to you. That safety net makes a Bolinas RV trip especially relaxing for first-time renters.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after you book. Hosts cannot change these terms, so you get the same fair treatment whether you rent in Bolinas, Stinson Beach, or Point Reyes Station. The exact refund depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and full details are available in the RVezy Help Center. Lock in your dates early for summer weekends, you can always adjust later within the policy window.

nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Bolinas or to a nearby campground?

Taylor State Park or to a private address in Stinson Beach, then walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run a per-mile rate from the host's location, with some hosts offering free delivery within a set radius. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see options instantly. For first-time renters, delivery turns a Bolinas RV trip into a true vacation from minute one.

Summer mornings are often socked in with fog until midday, and temperatures along the immediate coast rarely climb far above the low 70s, so pack layers no matter when you visit. You can message any host through the listing page with questions before you book, and RVezy customer support is available throughout your trip. Many Marin-area hosts specialize in first-timers and offer delivery so you never have to maneuver a big rig through the curvy roads. Choose a smaller Class C or campervan for your first trip, they handle much like a large SUV on Highway 1.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trip routes from Bolinas?
An RV road trip from Bolinas opens up some of the most scenic driving in North America. Head north on Highway 1 to Point Reyes Lighthouse, continue to Tomales Bay oyster farms, and onward to Bodega Bay for a classic Sonoma Coast loop. Going south, you are about 25 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, or roughly 75 miles to the Santa Cruz redwoods. A bigger loop up to Mendocino runs about 140 miles north on Highway 1. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but US destinations are wide open. Drive Highway 1 north of Bolinas in the morning when fog tends to clear fastest.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=471What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Bolinas RV trip is straightforward once you know typical mileage. Campervans (Class B) average roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs run about 6 to 10 MPG. California gas prices typically run well above the national average, so fill up in Petaluma or Novato before heading west, fuel in Point Reyes Station and Olema is noticeably pricier. For a typical 3-night trip with 200 miles of driving in a Class C, plan roughly $90 to $130 in fuel based on current California prices. There is no gas station in Bolinas itself, top off before crossing into West Marin.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bolinas?
Book early, Marin County campgrounds are some of the most competitive in California. Samuel P. Taylor State Park and Mount Tamalpais State Park both open reservations six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia, and prime summer weekends often sell out within minutes of release at 8 a.m. Pacific. Point Reyes National Seashore's hike-in backcountry campgrounds book through Recreation.gov on a similar window. Private parks like Marin Park typically take reservations several months out. Set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target date and log in to ReserveCalifornia a few minutes before 8 a.m. Pacific to snag the best sites.
reservecalifornia.com/What are local driving conditions like around Bolinas?
Driving an RV around Bolinas is genuinely pleasant if you take it slow, the region is famous for its winding, scenic coastal roads. Highway 1 from Stinson Beach to Bolinas has tight curves and narrow shoulders, so larger rigs are often easier to handle with host delivery rather than self-drive. Olema-Bolinas Road has low-hanging trees in spots, and the Bolinas turnoff is famously unsigned by local preference. Coastal fog can drop visibility quickly in summer mornings. California law limits any vehicle towing a trailer to 55 mph statewide. Drive Highway 1 before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m. on weekends to avoid the worst traffic.
dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Bolinas?
Campgrounds near Bolinas range from full-hookup private parks to redwood-shaded state parks. Samuel P. Taylor State Park has flush toilets, coin-operated hot showers, and potable water spigots in a beautiful redwood setting. San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA, about 35 miles away, has full hookups up to 50-amp service, a pool, and big-rig pull-throughs. Marin Park RV in Greenbrae offers full hookups closer to the bay. parks.ca.gov/?page_id=469What's actually inside a typical Bolinas RV rental?
Bolinas RV rentals come well-equipped for coastal adventures. A typical Class C motorhome sleeps 4 to 6 with a queen bed, dinette and often an over-cab bunk, a full kitchen with propane stove, microwave, and refrigerator, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Campervan rentals (Class B) sleep 2 to 4 and are perfect for couples exploring the Point Reyes peninsula. Most listings include seatbelts for all sleeping capacity, a generator or solar setup, heating, and basic dishware. Wi-Fi and TVs vary by listing, so check the amenities tab. Cell service is spotty in Bolinas itself, look for hosts who include a mobile hotspot if staying connected matters to you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bolinas%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Bolinas and greater Marin area offer thoughtful add-ons that make your trip smoother. Popular extras include camp chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, and portable Wi-Fi. Pickup is typically at the host's location in places like Novato, San Rafael, or Mill Valley, and delivery is often available straight to a Marin-area campground or your Bolinas-area rental for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, so check the daily mileage allowance and overage rate before booking. Bundle delivery plus a linen package and you essentially walk into a turn-key vacation home on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bolinas%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, no cash exchange with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after your trip, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. The protection plan you selected at checkout covers most damage above normal wear. Do a quick walkthrough video with your host at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast after your Bolinas RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I legally park an RV overnight in and around Bolinas?
Where to park an RV in Bolinas is a fair question, since this small coastal town does not have dedicated street RV parking. The good news: you have great legal options nearby. Samuel P. Taylor State Park has reservable RV sites among redwoods, and several private RV parks in greater Marin offer full hookups. California Safety Roadside Rest Areas allow up to 8 hours of overnight rest. Marin County and several local jurisdictions restrict overnight RV street parking, so always book a real site. Ask your host about delivery directly to your reserved campsite, it is the cleanest solution.
