Campgrounds and RV parks near Gridley, CA

The Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, southwest of town, draws RV travelers in the cooler months for waterfowl viewing along the Pacific Flyway, with auto-tour loops and walking trails. Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, about 25 miles north, offers boating, swimming, the Bidwell Canyon and Loafer Creek day-use areas, and the Oroville Dam overlook. Feather Falls Scenic Trail, in Plumas National Forest, climbs to one of the tallest waterfalls in the country and works as a full-day hike from Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park or the Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey. Closer in, the Feather River corridor supports fishing for salmon and steelhead in season, and the Sutter Buttes rise just south of town. Families often pair a Gridley stay with a day trip to Chico's Bidwell Park.

Gridley follows a classic Sacramento Valley pattern. Summers are hot, arid, and mostly clear, and winters are cool, wet, and partly cloudy. Temperatures typically range from about 40°F to 96°F across the year, rarely dropping below 31°F or rising above 104°F, so summer RV travelers should plan for full hookups with reliable 50-amp service to run air conditioning through the afternoon. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for camping. March through May brings green hills, wildflowers in the Sutter Buttes foothills, and steadily warming days. September through November cools off, river fishing picks up, and migratory birds return to Gray Lodge. January is the wettest month, averaging around 129 mm of precipitation, which can produce localized flooding along low river roads. July is effectively dry, and wildfire smoke from the surrounding foothills is a possibility from late summer into early fall. Lake Oroville reservation campgrounds operate year-round, but services scale back outside peak season.

Most Gridley-area RV parks are valley-floor properties: level gravel or paved pads, mature shade trees in the older parks, and full hookups including 30 and 50-amp service. Sites tend to be longer than coastal California averages, which suits towables and Class A rigs. Cell coverage on major carriers is generally strong across town and along Highway 99 but degrades quickly once roads climb east into the foothills above Oroville. Summer afternoons regularly push past 95°F, so shaded sites book first. Mosquitoes can be heavy near the river and rice fields after spring flooding. Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park and the Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey both sit closer to the foothills above Oroville. Expect quiet hours, leashed-pet policies, and on-site laundry at most full-service properties.
