Campgrounds and RV parks near Kelseyville, CA

Clear Lake itself drives most trip planning. The lake is known nationally for largemouth bass fishing, and bluegill, crappie, and catfish are also common. Renters with a tow vehicle can launch from the state park ramp, from Konocti Vista RV Park's marina on the south shore, or from public ramps in Lakeport. Swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are all standard summer activities, and the swim beach inside Clear Lake State Park is a short walk from the Kelsey Creek loop. On land, the state park has several short hiking trails through oak woodland with views of Mount Konocti, the dormant volcano that dominates the skyline. Kelseyville sits inside the Kelsey Bench and Big Valley wine appellations, so tasting rooms and farm stands are within a short drive, and downtown Lakeport has groceries, restaurants, and laundry.

The Clear Lake basin has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, so the camping calendar is shaped more by heat and fire risk than by snow. Summer days routinely push into the 90s Fahrenheit with cool nights, almost no rain, and high demand on the water. Reservations for state park sites at Upper Bayview, Lower Bayview, and Kelsey Creek fill quickly for summer weekends, and shaded sites go first. Spring is the most comfortable window for first-time RV renters: wildflowers across Mount Konocti, mild days, cool nights, and lighter crowds, though showers are still possible through May. Fall brings warm days, cold nights, harvest activity in the local vineyards, and a sharp drop in lake traffic after Labor Day. Winter is the wet season, with most rainfall concentrated from November through March. Kelsey Creek stays open year-round, while the Bayview loops typically operate on a seasonal schedule from spring through early fall. Late summer and early fall can bring wildfire smoke and occasional public safety power shutoffs, so renters should check CAL FIRE and PG&E alerts before arrival.

Expect a split between rustic state park camping and full-service private RV parks. Upper Bayview, Lower Bayview, and Kelsey Creek have no water, sewer, or electric hookups at the site, but the state park has a dump station, flush toilets, and coin-operated showers. Sites accommodate rigs up to 35 feet and include a fire ring, table, and food storage box. Konocti Vista RV Park has full hookups, paved parking, a marina, and accepts larger rigs. Day-use traffic is heavy in summer, so arriving on a weekday afternoon is easier than a Friday evening. Raccoons and ground squirrels are persistent at the state park, so use the food storage boxes. Cell service is generally reliable around Kelseyville and Lakeport but spottier on side roads.
