Campgrounds near Loma Rica
Loma Rica sits in the Yuba County foothills of California's Gold Country, northeast of Marysville and below the Sierra Nevada snow line. The area works well as an RV base because most nearby campgrounds stay open year-round and sit at elevations that avoid both valley fog and mountain snow. Collins Lake, at about 1,200 feet of elevation, sits below the snow line yet above the valley fog line, which keeps it open year round.
The closest full-service option is Collins Lake Recreation Area, a 1,600 acre lake with 12 miles of shoreline located between Marysville and Grass Valley, offering RV hookups, a boat launch, marina and boat rentals, a sand swimming beach, a children's playground, a general store, laundry and hot showers. Nearby, Lake of the Springs RV Resort sits on 950 acres in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains and includes a 120-acre private lake for fishing, swimming and boating. To the north, the Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey is about 70 miles north of Sacramento and pairs RV camping with casino amenities. Lake Francis Resort and Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park round out the area's options.
Things to do near Loma Rica
Water recreation drives most trips. Anglers do well fishing for trophy bass and trout, plus crappie, bluegill and catfish at Collins Lake, where thousands of 3 to 8 pound trout are planted multiple times each spring and fall. Collins Lake also supports water skiing and wakeboarding in the warmer months, though jet skis are not permitted. On-site family activities include movies under the stars on the beach and Saturday night live music in summer. Lake of the Springs RV Resort adds patio boat rentals, a swimming pool, tennis courts and a 120-acre private lake for non-motorized boating. The Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey offers a free 24/7 shuttle to the adjacent casino, brewery and live entertainment for adults traveling without kids.

The foothill climate is Mediterranean: hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. Daytime highs in the Marysville area run in the mid-90s Fahrenheit at the peak of summer and the mid-50s in winter, with overnight lows dropping into the low 40s in December and January. Rainfall is concentrated in the winter months while summers are nearly rainless, and measurable snow is rare at this elevation. Loma Rica itself sits above the worst of the Sacramento Valley tule fog and below the Sierra snow line, so RV access stays viable in every season.
Spring is the prime window for trout fishing and wildflowers, with cool nights and mild days. Summer brings reliable sunshine for swimming and watersports, though highs can push into the upper 90s and shade matters when picking a site. Fall offers comfortable temperatures and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winter is the wettest stretch and the quietest at the campgrounds, with storms arriving in waves and calm windows in between. Wildfire smoke can affect air quality in late summer and early fall, so RVers should monitor regional fire and air-quality advisories before and during a trip.

Renting with Richard couldn’t have gone better! We were taking a trip to Tahoe national Forest and a place that we had never been, to meet up with family. With taking two small children and our dog on their first camping trip together we knew we wanted to get an RV to have some of the comforts of home and have someone deliver an RV with more driving experience. Richard not only dropped it off and set it up to the site for us, he also picked it up when we were ready to leave. Our camping trip went so much better having the RV and the kids loved staying in the bunkbeds! Thank you so much again Richard we had an AMAZING time!!!

Booking and how to reserve
Reservation systems vary by operator. Reservations at Collins Lake Recreation Area can be made through the official Collins Lake website or by contacting the reservation office directly. All Collins Lake campsite reservations have a 2-night minimum stay, a 3-night minimum on holidays, and some sites have a 7-night minimum. Cancellation policy: 14 days or more ahead incurs a small cancel fee with the remaining deposit credited, while less than 14 days ahead the deposit is forfeit.
Lake of the Springs RV Resort is operated by Thousand Trails and accepts non-member bookings as well as Camping Pass members. From April 15 through September 15, reservations have a maximum stay of 14 days per site, though consecutive stays are allowed if guests move between sites. The Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey books through KOA.com, with check-in at 1:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. Holiday weekends and peak summer dates fill earliest at the lakefront sites, so booking well in advance is advised for those windows.
What to expect on arrival
Expect foothill terrain with winding two-lane access roads. When approaching Collins Lake, some sections of road are steep, though they remain accessible for RVs and vehicles towing boats. Hookup availability varies by site type, with a mix of dry, water-and-electric, and full-hookup options at most parks, plus dump stations for boondock loops. Cell coverage is uneven in the surrounding hills, and Wi-Fi at private resorts can slow during busy weekends.
Facilities at the major nearby parks include hot showers, laundry, general stores and family amenities. The Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey offers wide, level 70-foot pull-thru sites with 20/30/50-amp service. Park staff are typically on-site during posted office hours, but late check-ins should be coordinated by phone. Bring drinking water for travel days, sun protection for exposed sites, and a backup plan for shade in summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Loma Rica, CA
How much does an RV rental in Loma Rica typically cost?
An RV rental in Loma Rica is one of the most affordable ways to explore Northern California's gold country foothills. On RVezy, travel trailers near Loma Rica typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes $175 to $295, and larger Class A rigs $250 to $450. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find a cheap RV rental in Loma Rica by booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday), traveling outside the May to September peak, or filtering for travel trailers a host will deliver and set up. Many local hosts also offer weekly discounts, so a 7-night Yuba foothills trip can be a real bargain.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%20Rica%2C%20CaliforniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Loma Rica, California?
Good news: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent the vast majority of RVs in Loma Rica. According to the California DMV, you only need a noncommercial Class B license if your motorhome is longer than 40 feet, and a noncommercial Class A license to tow trailers over 10,000 pounds. The campervans, Class C motorhomes, and most travel trailers on RVezy fall well under those limits. You must be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform before pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're ready to hit Marysville Road.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/Is my Loma Rica RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, and that's one of the best reasons to rent an RV in Loma Rica through RVezy. Every booking includes a renter protection plan that covers physical damage to the vehicle, plus 24/7 roadside assistance for issues like flat tires, lockouts, and tows on rural roads such as Marysville Road or Highway 20. During checkout you choose your protection level based on how much coverage you want. It provides real financial backup so you can focus on trout fishing at Collins Lake instead of worrying about a rock chip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Loma Rica RV rental?
You can book your Loma Rica RV trip with confidence. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without stress. Beyond that grace period, refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits, and support is available before, during, and after every trip. The full cancellation policy is on the RVezy Help Center.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Loma Rica?
Yes, your dog is welcome on many Loma Rica adventures. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who allow dogs, then message them with your dog's size and breed before booking. The area is dog-friendly: Collins Lake Recreation Area allows leashed dogs in the campground (not on the swim beach), and trails around Bullards Bar Reservoir and the Spenceville Wildlife Area welcome leashed pets. A pet-friendly RV rental in Loma Rica makes road tripping with dogs simple. Bring a long lead and a collapsible water bowl for hot foothill afternoons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%20Rica%2C%20California&PetFriendly=trueCan a host deliver the RV to my campsite or driveway in Loma Rica?
Yes, RV delivery in Loma Rica is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who don't want to drive a big rig down rural Marysville Road. Filter listings by Delivery and many local hosts will haul the RV directly to Collins Lake, Bullards Bar, Englebright Lake, or your private property in Brownsville or Oregon House, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile from the host's location. Ask about a stationary setup, where you skip driving entirely and treat the RV like a lakeside cabin.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%20Rica%2C%20California&Delivery=trueHow far can I drive from Loma Rica on a typical RV rental?
Loma Rica is a great launch pad for a Northern California RV road trip. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles around $0.35 to $0.55 each, and some offer unlimited mileage as an add-on. From Loma Rica you can reach Lake Tahoe in about 2 hours (around 95 miles), Lassen Volcanic National Park in roughly 3 hours (about 155 miles), the Pacific Coast at Bodega Bay in around 3 hours (about 140 miles), Reno in about 2.5 hours (around 130 miles), and Yosemite National Park in about 5 hours (around 235 miles). For longer loops, ask the host upfront about an unlimited mileage upgrade.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%20Rica%2C%20CaliforniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Loma Rica for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Loma Rica. Collins Lake Recreation Area (just 15 minutes north in Browns Valley) is the local favorite, with lakefront full-hookup sites, a sandy swim beach, and summer movies under the stars. Englebright Lake offers boat-in and shoreline camping along the Yuba River 25 minutes east. Bullards Bar Reservoir, about 45 minutes north, has Dark Day and Schoolhouse Campgrounds for boating and trout fishing. Sycamore Ranch RV Park along the Yuba River near Browns Valley is great for a quick first-night setup. Pro tip: Collins Lake opens bookings on January 1 for the entire next two years, so reserve summer weekends early.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/tahoe/recarea/?recid=55563When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Loma Rica?
Honestly, Loma Rica is a three-and-a-half-season RV destination, and the smart-money window is March through May plus late September through November. Spring brings wildflowers across the foothills and daytime highs in the 65 to 80 degree range, while fall delivers golden oak hillsides and 70-degree afternoons. Summer (June to early September) is hot, with average July highs around 96 degrees in the Loma Rica foothills, so plan for AC, shade, and lake swims. Winters are mild (highs in the mid-50s, lows in the mid-30s) and rarely snowy at this elevation, making a December motorhome rental in Loma Rica a quiet, affordable option for trout fishing at Collins Lake.
weather.gov/sto/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what I'm doing?
You'll be in good hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host does a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate slide-outs, the water pump, propane, generator, leveling jacks, and waste tanks. Many send a digital welcome guide ahead of time, and you can message them through the app the moment a question pops up on the road. If you're nervous about driving in the Yuba foothills, book a travel trailer with delivery so you skip the wheel entirely. Ask your host for their favorite turnouts on Marysville Road to practice wide turns before heading to Collins Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180654-For-RentersWhat happens if my RV breaks down on a road trip from Loma Rica?
You're never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tows, jump-starts, lockouts, flat tires, and out-of-fuel calls. Whether you're climbing Highway 49 toward Downieville, parked at Bullards Bar, or rolling east on Interstate 80 toward Truckee, one call dispatches help. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app; local Loma Rica hosts often know which Marysville or Grass Valley mechanic can handle an RV same-day. Take photos of the generator hour meter and tire pressures at pickup so anything that changes is easy to report.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Loma Rica RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes to most of North America, with one firm exception. You can take your RV rental in California across state lines for an RV road trip from Loma Rica, with popular routes including the Oregon Coast (about 7 hours to Brookings), Nevada (about 2.5 hours to Reno or 8 to 9 hours to Las Vegas), and Utah's Zion National Park (about 12 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada is sometimes allowed; message the host before booking so they can confirm with their insurer. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Share your full route with your host upfront so mileage and approvals are sorted in advance.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Loma Rica RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans near Loma Rica average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs and big trucks pulling fifth wheels run 6 to 10 mpg. California gas prices in the Yuba-Sutter region typically run $4.50 to $5.25 per gallon, with diesel often slightly higher. A 250-mile loop to Lake Tahoe and back in a Class C usually costs $90 to $125 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Marysville or Yuba City before heading into the foothills; prices climb noticeably once you're past Brownsville or Dobbins.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Loma Rica?
Book early and you'll get the best spots. Collins Lake Recreation Area opens reservations on January 1 for the next two calendar years through its CampLife system, and lakefront full-hookup sites for summer weekends fill within days. State and federal campgrounds (Bullards Bar's Schoolhouse and Dark Day sites, plus Yuba County and Tahoe National Forest options) book through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. For shoulder-season RV camping in Loma Rica, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually enough. Pro tip: if everything is full, ask your RVezy host about delivery to private land in Oregon House or Dobbins, since many locals rent driveway space on Hipcamp.
recreation.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around Loma Rica?
Driving conditions around Loma Rica are friendly for RVs, with a few foothill-specific tips. The main routes (Marysville Road, La Porte Road, and Highway 20) are paved, two-lane, and winding, with gentle grades of 3 to 6 percent as you climb from the Sacramento Valley floor (60 feet elevation in Marysville) up to Loma Rica (around 850 feet) and beyond toward Brownsville. Summer brings clear, dry pavement; winter occasionally delivers fog in the valley below and rare snow above 2,500 feet. Watch for cattle crossings, deer at dawn and dusk, and narrow turnouts. Pro tip: avoid towing east on Highway 20 toward Grass Valley during Friday afternoon Tahoe traffic; mornings flow much smoother.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Loma Rica?
You'll find a really nice mix of services close to Loma Rica. Collins Lake Recreation Area offers full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer at many sites), hot showers, laundry, a general store with propane, and a dump station. Bullards Bar's Dark Day and Schoolhouse campgrounds are more rustic, with vault toilets, potable water spigots, and no hookups, perfect for boondocking practice. Sycamore Ranch RV Park along the Yuba River has full hookups, Wi-Fi, and a riverside beach. Dump stations are available at Collins Lake, the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds in Yuba City, and most Flying J/Pilot stops along I-5. Pro tip: top off freshwater in Marysville since foothill spigots can be seasonal.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/tahoe/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=55563&actid=29What's inside the RVs available for rent in Loma Rica?
More than you might expect. Most motorhome rentals in Loma Rica include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, two- or three-burner propane stove, microwave, sink, often a convection oven), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof AC, propane furnace, awning, and often outdoor speakers. Class C and Class A rigs typically have 4 to 7 seatbelted seats so the whole family can ride legally. Many include a generator, solar panels, a flat-screen TV, and Bluetooth stereo. Cell and Wi-Fi service can be spotty in the Yuba foothills, so ask your host about a hotspot add-on for streaming at Bullards Bar.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%20Rica%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my RV rental in Loma Rica?
Hosts offer some genuinely useful extras that can transform your campervan rental in Loma Rica. Common add-ons include kitchen kits ($30 to $60), bedding and linens ($25 to $50 per bed), camp chairs and tables ($15 to $25), generators ($25 to $50 per day), portable fire pits, Starlink or Wi-Fi hotspots, bike racks, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards perfect for Collins Lake. Pickup is usually flexible between 1 and 4 PM with drop-off by 11 AM; ask about late drop-off if you want a final swim. Mileage policies vary, so confirm included miles upfront. Pro tip: a paddleboard add-on is the single best investment for a Bullards Bar trip.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21434How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely inside the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or card details to a host. You pay a deposit at booking and the balance is automatically charged before the trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card during the rental and released after drop-off, assuming no damage or missing items. To keep things smooth, take time-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, mileage, and generator hours at both pickup and return, and complete the host's walkthrough checklist. Return the RV with the same fuel and propane level to keep your deposit return fast and full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I manage the summer heat on a Loma Rica RV trip?
With a little planning, it's easy. Loma Rica summers regularly hit the mid-90s and occasionally exceed 100 degrees in July and August, so target an RV with a 13,500 or 15,000 BTU rooftop AC and at least 30-amp shore power, which Collins Lake full-hookup sites provide. Drive in the cool morning hours, park with the awning facing west, and use reflective windshield covers (your host likely provides these). Plan hot afternoons around the swim beach at Collins Lake or shaded boat time at Bullards Bar Reservoir. A family RV trip Loma Rica style means hitting the water by 11 AM, before the heat peaks.
