Campgrounds near Soda Bay
Soda Bay sits on the southwest shore of Clear Lake in Lake County, California, the largest natural freshwater lake entirely within the state. The bay is best known as the home of Clear Lake State Park, whose entrance is about 3.5 miles northeast of Kelseyville on Soda Bay Road. The park operates four campgrounds, three of which are closest to the bay itself: Lower Bayview - Clear Lake State Park, Upper Bayview - Clear Lake State Park, and Kelsey Creek - Clear Lake State Park. Kelsey Creek is the only campground with lakeside sites, sitting between Clear Lake and Kelsey Slough, while the Bayview loops climb a hillside above the swim beach.
Private options round out the area. Lake Place Resort offers a small lakefront property a short drive from the state park, and Konocti Vista RV Park is a full-hookup RV park attached to the Konocti Vista Casino on the lakeshore in nearby Lakeport. Together these properties give RV travelers a mix of rustic state-park camping and full-service hookup sites within a tight radius.
Things to do around Soda Bay
Clear Lake is widely regarded as one of the top bass fisheries in the United States, and the state park boat launch at Soda Bay gives registered campers direct water access. Largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish are the main targets, and the reedy shoreline favors kayaks and canoes. Swimming, water-skiing, and boating fill out the on-water options, with a designated swim beach inside the state park.
On land, the Indian Nature Trail is a short self-guided loop through a former Pomo village site, and the Dorn Trail climbs for wider lake views. The park visitor center covers local natural and cultural history. Kelseyville wineries and Mount Konocti hikes are within a short drive.

Soda Bay has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer is the dominant camping season: daytime temperatures climb into the 90s Fahrenheit, the lake is warm enough for swimming and skiing, and bass tournaments run frequently. Sites at Kelsey Creek and the Bayview loops book up months ahead for summer weekends and holidays, so early reservations are essential.
Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, and active pre-spawn and spawn bass fishing, with cooler nights and the chance of passing rain showers into May. Fall is one of the quieter and more pleasant windows, with warm days, cool nights, and lower crowds through October before the rainy pattern returns.
Winter is the wettest season, with most rain falling December through February. Kelsey Creek - Clear Lake State Park stays open year round, while Lower Bayview and Upper Bayview operate seasonally and typically close in the cold months. Fog is common on calm winter mornings.
How to book campgrounds near Soda Bay
Sites at Lower Bayview - Clear Lake State Park, Upper Bayview - Clear Lake State Park, and Kelsey Creek - Clear Lake State Park are reserved through ReserveCalifornia, the California State Parks reservation system, online at reservecalifornia.com or by phone at 1-800-444-7275. The booking window opens six months in advance on a rolling daily basis, with new dates released at 8 a.m. Pacific time, and summer lakeside sites often sell out within minutes of opening. Cancellations made at least seven days ahead receive a refund minus the reservation fee; cancellations inside that window forfeit at least the first night. Walk-up sites are sometimes available outside peak weekends but are not guaranteed.
Konocti Vista RV Park is booked directly through the casino hotel front desk and operates partly on a first-come, first-served basis. Lake Place Resort takes reservations directly through the property.
What to expect at Soda Bay campgrounds
Clear Lake State Park sites are rustic by design. The campgrounds have no electric or water hookups, but each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and bear-proof food storage box, and the park has a dump station plus flush toilets and coin-operated showers. Maximum trailer or RV length is 35 feet across the park, and trailers are not recommended in the Upper Bayview or Lower Bayview loops due to tight access.
Konocti Vista RV Park is the opposite experience: paved sites, full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, showers, and walk-in access to the casino, marina, and restaurant. Lake County requires invasive-mussel screening and a Quagga/Zebra sticker for motorized vessels before launching anywhere on Clear Lake, in addition to the state DMV mussel fee sticker. Pets are allowed in campgrounds but not on state park trails.

You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and we'll quickly verify your ID through the platform after you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your needs at checkout (it's set by RVezy, not the host). If you have a tire issue on Highway 29 or a problem at Clear Lake State Park, one call gets help dispatched. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at checkout to pick the level that feels right for your group and trip length.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Soda Bay trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Soda Bay. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, and refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is when you cancel. Because cancellation terms are handled platform-wide, you will not see a separate policy listed on individual RV listings. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy helps you get a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer weekends at Clear Lake State Park, knowing the grace period gives you breathing room if plans shift.

Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Soda Bay welcome dogs, and the area itself is very dog-friendly. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see motorhomes and travel trailers where pets are welcome. Clear Lake State Park at 5300 Soda Bay Road allows leashed dogs in the campgrounds, and you can enjoy easy strolls together around the day-use areas. Some hosts charge a small pet fee, which is shown clearly before you book. Pro tip: Lake County summers get hot, so plan walks for early morning and confirm your RV has reliable air conditioning before booking, especially in July and August.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=473Can the RV be delivered directly to my Soda Bay campsite?
Yes, RV delivery in Soda Bay is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in Lake County will deliver and set up your travel trailer or motorhome right at Clear Lake State Park's Kelsey Creek or Lower Bayview campground, level it, hook up what's needed, and give you a full walkthrough before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer it. Delivery fees vary based on distance from the host's location, but it removes the need to tow or drive a large rig down winding Soda Bay Road. Pro tip: book delivery to a lakeside site for the easiest possible Clear Lake experience.

visitlakecounty.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Soda Bay for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Soda Bay. The crown jewel is Clear Lake State Park at 5300 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville, with 147 sites across four campgrounds (Kelsey Creek, Cole Creek, Lower Bayview, and Upper Bayview), fitting RVs up to 35 feet, plus a dump station and showers. Nearby private options include Edgewater Resort & RV Park in Kelseyville for full hookups on the lake, Konocti Vista Casino Resort & Marina for hookups plus a marina, and Aurora RV Park in Upper Lake. For a quieter retreat, Blue Oaks Campground is a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) option just east. Pro tip: Kelsey Creek is the only campground open year-round and has the lakeside sites everyone wants.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=473When is the best time to visit Soda Bay in an RV?
Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot for an RV trip to Soda Bay. April through early June brings wildflowers, mild 65 to 80 degree days, and full lake levels for boating, while September and October offer warm 75 to 85 degree afternoons, harvest season at Lake County wineries, and far fewer crowds at Clear Lake State Park. July and August are gorgeous but hot, often 90 to 100+ degrees, so plan for a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild (40s to 60s) with rain, perfect for cozy campervan getaways. Pro tip: plan a fall visit around the Kelseyville Pear Festival in late September to combine RV camping with one of Lake County's best community events.
weather.gov/mtr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Soda Bay?
Totally, first time renting an RV around Soda Bay is genuinely manageable, and you're never on your own. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, the awning, propane, water, and waste tanks. Soda Bay Road itself is a scenic two-lane road with some curves around Mount Konocti, but speeds are low and traffic is light compared to coastal California. If you're nervous, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Soda Bay, or skip driving entirely by booking a host who offers delivery. Pro tip: do a short practice drive in the Kelseyville Safeway parking lot before heading out to your campsite to build confidence.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/educational-materials/fast-facts/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-ffdl-06/What happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue near Clear Lake?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking in Soda Bay includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. Whether you have a flat on Highway 29, a dead battery at Clear Lake State Park, or a propane issue at Lower Bayview, one phone call gets help dispatched. Cell service can be spotty around Mount Konocti and on back roads, so download offline maps before your trip. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for any RV-specific questions. Pro tip: note the Clear Lake State Park entrance station number as a daytime backup contact while you're camping.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trip routes from Soda Bay?
Soda Bay sits in a perfect spot for an RV road trip from Soda Bay through Northern California. Popular loops include the Wine Country Loop south to Calistoga, Napa, and Sonoma (about 45 to 70 miles); the Mendocino Coast run west on Highway 20 to Fort Bragg and the Pacific (about 90 miles, allow 2.5 hours); the Redwoods route north on Highway 101 to Humboldt Redwoods State Park (about 175 miles); and the Lake Tahoe trek east via I-80 (about 175 miles). Travel into Mexico isn't allowed on RVezy rentals, but Oregon and Nevada are fair game with host approval. Pro tip: build in two nights minimum at the coast since the drive over Highway 20 is gorgeous but slow.
dot.ca.gov/What should I budget for fuel on a Soda Bay RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger line items, but easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes around Soda Bay average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 MPG, campervans 16 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG towing). California gas prices in Lake County usually run a bit above the national average, often $4.50 to $5.50 per gallon. For a typical 4-night stay with a few day trips around Clear Lake, budget $150 to $300 for fuel in a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Kelseyville or Lakeport before heading toward Mendocino, since coastal stations on Highway 20 charge significantly more.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I reserve a campsite near Soda Bay?
For Clear Lake State Park, the earlier the better. Reservations open up to six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia, and lakeside sites at Kelsey Creek (especially premium sites 58 to 60 and 110 to 112) can book up the moment they release for summer weekends and holidays. For midweek or shoulder-season trips, two to four weeks ahead is usually fine. Private parks like Edgewater Resort and Konocti Vista typically take reservations directly through their websites and tend to be a bit easier to snag last-minute. From October through March, Kelsey Creek Campground switches to first-come, first-served. Pro tip: set a calendar alarm for exactly six months before your target date and book at 8 a.m. Pacific time when the booking window opens.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Soda Bay?
Driving around Soda Bay is generally relaxed, with a few quirks worth knowing. Soda Bay Road and Highway 281 wind around the base of 4,300-foot Mount Konocti with some curves and narrow shoulders, so take it slow, the 25 to 45 mph speed limits are realistic. Highway 29 is the main artery through Lake County and is well-maintained. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially between Kelseyville and the state park entrance. Summer heat can stress older RVs on grades, so monitor engine temperatures. Winter brings rain and occasional fog. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 175 over Hopland Grade in a large motorhome, it's a steep, twisty shortcut better tackled in a small campervan or with the host's blessing.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do campgrounds near Soda Bay offer for RVs?
You've got a healthy mix of options for RV camping in Soda Bay. Clear Lake State Park has flush toilets, pay showers, a dump station, drinking water spigots, and fire rings at every site, but no electric or water hookups at the sites themselves, so you'll rely on your RV's batteries and tanks (generators are allowed 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.). For full hookups (electric, water, sewer), head to Edgewater Resort & RV Park, Konocti Vista Casino Resort & Marina, or Aurora RV Park in nearby Upper Lake. The state park's dump station is centrally located near the entrance. Pro tip: top off freshwater before pulling into a Bayview site, the spigots are spaced out and easier to access on the way in.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=473What features and amenities can I expect inside a Soda Bay RV rental?
RVezy rentals in Soda Bay come well-equipped for Clear Lake life. Expect comfortable beds (most rigs sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette seating with seatbelts for travel, climate control, and often a TV. Many motorhome rentals in Soda Bay also include a generator (essential at Clear Lake State Park since there are no hookups), an awning for shade, outdoor chairs, and basic kitchenware. Some hosts include kayaks or paddleboards as add-ons, perfect for Soda Bay's calm morning waters. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm the generator runs the air conditioning, summer afternoons regularly hit 95 degrees and you'll want it.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=473What add-ons and pickup options should I look at when booking?
RVezy hosts in Soda Bay offer some genuinely useful add-ons that can transform your trip. Common ones include linens and bedding packages ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor setups, generators (sometimes included, sometimes a daily fee), kayaks or paddleboards, propane refills, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Lakeport, Kelseyville, Clearlake, or surrounding Lake County towns, but delivery to Clear Lake State Park or your vacation rental is often available for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary, look for daily mileage allowances or unlimited mileage, listed clearly on each listing. Pro tip: bundle linens, kitchen kit, and a kayak add-on for a stress-free first-timer setup that keeps your packing list almost empty.
visitlakecounty.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform when you book (no cash to the host), and your card is charged for the rental, fees, and any add-ons you select. Most hosts also place a refundable security deposit hold on your card before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, which is released after the trip assuming there is no damage beyond what is covered by the protection plan. To avoid issues, do a careful walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos and videos of the RV inside and out, and return it on time, fueled, and with tanks dumped if your host requires. Pro tip: keep a dump station receipt as proof if any question ever comes up.
