Campgrounds near Sonoma State University

Sonoma State University sits in Rohnert Park, in southern Sonoma County, about an hour north of San Francisco and roughly five miles south of Santa Rosa. The campus puts RV travelers within minutes of wine country tasting rooms, the Sonoma Coast, and the redwood country of the Russian River. Camping options in the area run from full-hookup commercial parks to a state park campground in the Mayacamas Mountains. The closest option is Wine Country RV Park Sonoma, an RV-only park about a mile from campus with full-hookup sites near Highway 101. Wine Country RV Park serves a similar role for travelers seeking an extended-stay community in the Sonoma County wine region. San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA sits roughly fifteen minutes south near the Penngrove exit and functions as the area's full-service resort, with a pool, cabins, and family activities. Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park in Santa Rosa offers paved sites in a central location. For a public-land alternative, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park near Kenwood provides a creekside campground in the hills east of Highway 12.

Things to do near Sonoma State University

Wine tasting anchors most trips. Tasting rooms cluster along Highway 12 through Kenwood and Glen Ellen, in downtown Healdsburg, and across the Carneros region toward Napa. Families can break up the wine schedule at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Safari West in the Mayacamas hills, or the Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park. The Sonoma Coast is roughly forty-five minutes west, with tide pools and beach trails at Bodega Bay and Salt Point. Hikers can reach Bald Mountain and the headwaters of Sonoma Creek inside Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, which also hosts public astronomy nights at the Robert Ferguson Observatory. Spring Lake Regional Park in northeast Santa Rosa offers a summer swim lagoon, fishing, and a paved bike path.

Wettest season; mild days, frequent rain, lowest demand

Sonoma County has a Mediterranean climate: warm, very dry summers and mild, wet winters. Effectively all of the annual rainfall arrives between November and April, with February typically the wettest month. Summer days run warm inland and cool sharply at night, while marine fog can blanket the coast on mornings that are sunny in Rohnert Park. Late spring through early fall is peak season. Sites at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and the San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA fill on summer weekends and around the late-summer and early-fall grape harvest, when tasting rooms are busiest. Reserve well ahead for any weekend from May through October. Wildfire season runs from roughly June into November; check Cal Fire and PG&E public-safety-power-shutoff advisories before traveling in late summer and fall. Winter is the quietest stretch, with the lowest demand and the best chance of last-minute sites, but expect stretches of rain and occasional road closures on Adobe Canyon Road into Sugarloaf after heavy storms. Spring brings wildflowers and a seasonal waterfall at Sugarloaf.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. They only gave the options of 5 stars so I'll leave the rest here : ✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️
