Coastal Georgia has a humid subtropical climate, so campgrounds around Whitemarsh Island stay open year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. These shoulder seasons draw the heaviest bookings, particularly around Savannah's St. Patrick's Day celebration in March, which is one of the largest in the country. Summer is hot and sticky, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and the Atlantic hurricane season running from June 1 through November 30. August is typically the wettest month. Beach-oriented parks like Rivers End Campground and RV Park fill quickly on summer weekends and holidays. Winters are mild, with occasional freezes and the lowest visitation of the year. Skidaway Island State Park has begun a partial campground renovation scheduled to last about a year, so travelers should check availability before booking a stay there.

Sites at Skidaway Island State Park are large and well-spaced under live oaks draped with Spanish moss. The park offers tent, trailer, and RV campsites with electric hookups, water access, fire rings, picnic tables, and grills, and some RV sites include sewer hookups. Campground amenities include hot showers, flush restrooms with washer/dryer facilities, a dump station, two playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, bicycle rentals, and an interpretive center. Rivers End Campground and RV Park on Tybee Island sits within a few blocks of the beach, with full-hookup RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. Sites are more compact than at the state park.
