Campgrounds and RV parks near Wilmington Island, GA

Wilmington Island sits on Georgia's coast between Savannah and Tybee Island, surrounded by tidal creeks, salt marsh, and the Intracoastal Waterway. It functions as a quiet residential base within easy reach of downtown Savannah's historic district, Tybee's beaches, and the Skidaway Narrows. RV travelers typically use the island as a launch point for coastal Georgia trips rather than a destination in itself. The closest developed camping is at Skidaway Island State Park, which sits on 588 acres bordering Skidaway Narrows along Georgia's Intracoastal Waterway, just 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. Rivers End Campground and RV Park sits east on Tybee Island, a short walk from the beach and about fifteen miles from downtown Savannah. Red Gate Campground and RV Resort lies on the west side of Savannah, while Hardeeville RV-Thomas Parks and Sites and Biltmore RV Park are located across the state line in South Carolina, within reach via I-95. Expect flat coastal terrain, live oaks draped in Spanish moss, humid summers, and mild winters that keep most parks open year-round.

Skidaway Island State Park is reserved through the Georgia State Parks system, either online or by calling 1-800-864-7275. The park offers tent, trailer, and RV campsites with electric hookups, water access, fire rings, picnic tables, and grills; some RV sites include sewer hookups, and three camper cabins and three yurts provide alternative lodging. Booking in advance is recommended and can be done online or by phone up to 13 months in advance, and weekends near Savannah events fill early. Private parks such as Rivers End Campground and RV Park, Red Gate Campground and RV Resort, Hardeeville RV-Thomas Parks and Sites, and Biltmore RV Park are booked directly through each property's website or by phone. For spring, holiday, and beach weekends, reserve well in advance and confirm big-rig length, slide clearance, and pet rules before booking.
