Campgrounds and RV parks near Keota, IA

Lake Darling anchors outdoor plans. The 302-acre lake has two boat ramps and a swim beach, and anglers target bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and crappie from the shore, docks, or by boat. A 13.6-mile multi-use trail circles the lake and is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers. Cultural stops sit within an easy drive. The Amana Colonies, a National Historic Landmark, cluster seven villages with restaurants, museums, and shops. Iowa City adds college-town dining and the Old Capitol. Local county roads pass wineries, small-town cafes, and the Iowa River corridor for kayaking and fishing.

The core RV season runs April through October. Lake Darling State Park's campground is closed from November 1 through March 31, runs off-peak in April, and moves to peak operation from May 1 through October 15, with a short off-peak window in the second half of October. Water, showers, and the dump station generally come on around May 1 and shut down in mid-October, weather permitting, so shoulder-season travelers should call ahead if they need modern facilities. Amana Colonies RV Park operates seasonally, roughly April 1 through November 1, so early-spring and late-fall travelers should confirm dates before booking. Private parks like BEYONDER Getaway at Sleepy Hollow and Updog RV and Camping tend to run similar spring-to-fall windows. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are a genuine planning factor in spring and early summer across Keokuk County; travelers should monitor NWS alerts and identify shelter at their campground on arrival. Winter RV options in the immediate area are limited; Lake Darling keeps year-round cabins available, but standard campsites are not.

Expect quiet, rural surroundings and a mix of open, grassy RV pads and shaded, wooded state-park loops. Amana Colonies RV Park is a large, mostly open layout with level sites, laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi; shade is limited. Lake Darling has modern restrooms, a playground, and a dump station on site, with back-in sites that can accommodate longer rigs. Cell coverage is generally usable but can be spotty in wooded areas near the lake. Bring drinking water for off-season stays because frost-free hydrants are not guaranteed outside the main season. Firewood should be purchased locally; Iowa is under a statewide emerald ash borer quarantine. Pets are welcome at most parks on a leash no longer than six feet, and standard Iowa DNR rules apply in state-park campgrounds.
