Campgrounds near Bel Air South, Maryland
Bel Air South sits in southern Harford County, Maryland, within easy reach of the lower Susquehanna River, the head of Chesapeake Bay, and the rolling farmland of the Maryland Piedmont. RV renters use the area as a base for river recreation, day trips to Baltimore and Philadelphia, and short drives to nearby state parks. Interstate 95 and US Route 40 make access straightforward from the Mid-Atlantic corridor.
Options close to town include Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina near the Bush River, Camp Ramblewood in nearby Darlington, and Olde Forge Campground for a quieter private-park setting. For public-land camping, Susquehanna State Park has two loops with a total of 69 sites, six of which are electric, and six camper cabins, with hot showers in each loop's comfort station. Just across the Pennsylvania line, Muddy Run Recreation Park - Utility adds a large reservoir-side option.
Together these five parks cover the range most RV renters need: waterfront hookups, wooded state-park loops, and family-oriented private grounds.
Things to do near Bel Air South
The Susquehanna River corridor is the main draw. The park has over fifteen miles of trails, including the accessible Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenways Trail, and horseback riders and mountain bikers can also enjoy the lush landscape and river views, with historical attractions such as the Rock Run Grist Mill nearby.
Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina puts boaters near the Bush River for Chesapeake access, while Muddy Run Recreation Park - Utility offers fishing on a 100-acre lake, where visitors can also rent various types of boats. Camp Ramblewood and Olde Forge Campground work well for families looking for pool time, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities.
Day-trip options include historic Havre de Grace, the Ladew Topiary Gardens, and Aberdeen for baseball and the Ripken complex.

The prime RV window runs from mid-April through late October. The Susquehanna State Park campground is open for visits between April and October, and reservations are strongly recommended. Private parks such as Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina, Camp Ramblewood, and Olde Forge Campground typically open earlier in spring and stretch later into fall, but hours and services taper outside peak season. Muddy Run Recreation Park - Utility is generally open March through October.
Summer brings warm, humid weather and the highest demand, especially on holiday weekends when riverfront and hookup sites book weeks ahead. Fall is the sweet spot for many renters. Daytime highs commonly run from the 50s to low 70s Fahrenheit with crisp nights in the 30s and 40s, and hardwood foliage along the Susquehanna is at its best.
Hunters share portions of state land during cooler months, so check posted zones before hiking off-trail. Ticks are common from spring through early fall.

How to book campgrounds near Bel Air South
Maryland state parks use a central reservations management system that lets visitors reserve campsites, cabins, mini-cabins, pavilions, and other amenities at 37 Maryland State Parks. Online reservations are made at parkreservations.maryland.gov, available 24 hours a day, and reservations are available up to 365 days in advance of the arrival date. Susquehanna State Park sites and cabins release on that portal and move quickly for summer weekends.
Muddy Run Recreation Park - Utility is operated across the Pennsylvania line and takes reservations directly through the park. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina, Camp Ramblewood, and Olde Forge Campground handle bookings through their own websites or by phone.
For holiday weekends and fall foliage dates, book two to three months out. Midweek stays and shoulder-season trips are easier to secure on shorter notice.
What to expect
Expect a mix of wooded state-park loops and full-service private parks. Susquehanna State Park has 69 sites across two loops, six with electric, plus six camper cabins, with hot showers in each loop's comfort station, so large RVs relying on hookups should confirm site type at booking. The maximum RV length at the park is 30 feet, and sites include tables, grills, and water access, with a playground and boat launch on site.
Private parks in the area generally offer water and electric hookups, dump stations, laundry, and Wi-Fi of variable strength. Cell coverage is reliable near Bel Air South but drops in the river valley.
Roads into Susquehanna State Park include narrow, winding sections near the historic mill area. Drivers of longer rigs should approach via the main campground entrance rather than the river road.

Fall delivers colorful foliage along the Mason-Dixon Trail and the Susquehanna with crisp 50 to 70°F daytime temps. July and August can reach 90°F with high humidity, which is great for Chesapeake Bay swimming but means you'll want an RV with strong air conditioning. weather.gov/lwx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, RVezy is built for first-time renters. Every host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery, if you choose that option) covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, dump valves, and driving tips. You can message the host before booking with any questions, and they typically respond the same day. For your first RV rental in Bel Air South, consider a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet), which drive much like a large van and park easily at places like Susquehanna State Park. Pro tip: do a short practice loop in a large empty lot near Bel Air Town Center before heading out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is just a phone call away whether you have a flat on Route 24, a dead battery at Rocks State Park, or a propane issue at Elk Neck. Roadside assistance handles towing, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message for quick questions about the rig's quirks, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the rig's VIN and license plate at pickup to speed up any roadside call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bel Air South RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes. Most RVezy rentals in Maryland are cleared for travel throughout the continental US, so a multi-state RV road trip from Bel Air South to Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, or even up to Acadia National Park in Maine is absolutely doable. Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message the host before booking. Popular cross-state routes from Bel Air South include Gettysburg PA (about 55 miles), Shenandoah National Park (about 175 miles), and the Outer Banks NC (about 320 miles). Confirm your route with your host so they can flag anything trip-specific.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Maryland RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to budget. Maryland gas prices typically run around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon, and diesel is slightly higher. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 18 MPG for a campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. For a 300-mile loop (say, Bel Air South to Assateague and back), you're looking at roughly $90 to $140 in fuel for a mid-sized motorhome. Pro tip: Royal Farms and Wawa stations along I-95 between Bel Air and Aberdeen consistently offer competitive fuel prices and easy access.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I reserve a campground near Bel Air South?
For the best campgrounds near Bel Air South, plan ahead. Maryland state park sites at Susquehanna, Elk Neck, and Rocks State Park open for reservations up to 12 months in advance and book quickly for summer weekends. Aim to reserve 4 to 6 months out for May through August, and 2 to 3 months for spring and fall. Reservations go through the Maryland Park Service official system. Private parks like Bar Harbor RV Park or KOA locations along I-95 typically have more last-minute flexibility. Pro tip: Sunday through Thursday nights are far easier to grab than Friday and Saturday, and the weather is often just as good.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/Reservations.aspxWhat are the driving conditions like around Bel Air South?
Driving an RV around Bel Air South is manageable. The area mixes easy suburban roads with quick access to I-95 and US-1. Route 24 and Route 924 are the main local arteries and handle RVs without issue. Watch for low clearance at older railroad and highway bridges in the area, and plan routes in advance using an RV-aware GPS so you can avoid weight-restricted or low-clearance routes. Traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings around the I-95/MD-24 interchange, so plan pickups and dropoffs outside rush hour for the smoothest experience.

Maryland campgrounds near Bel Air South range from rustic to fully equipped. State parks like Susquehanna and Elk Neck offer electric hookups (20/30/50 amp on many sites), potable water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, and flush toilets, but typically no sewer hookups at individual sites. Private parks such as Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina in Abingdon offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and waterfront access. Most Maryland state parks have a dump station near the campground entrance, free for registered campers. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving for Assateague, where fresh water is limited at primitive sites.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat's actually inside a typical Bel Air South RV rental?

Most rigs include roof AC, a propane furnace, a TV, and a generator or shore-power hookups. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor chairs, and BBQs for free or a small add-on fee. Seatbelts are provided for the rig's listed sleeps count, which matters if you're traveling with kids. Check each listing's amenities and message the host if you need something specific.

Pickup is usually at the host's home or a mutually agreed location near Bel Air, Forest Hill, or Abingdon, and delivery to your campground is widely available. Mileage policies vary by host (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day included), and some offer unlimited mileage for longer trips. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bel%20Air%20South%2C%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card at booking, with no cash or off-platform transfers, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment and is released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround at pickup, take date-stamped photos and videos of the interior and exterior, and return the rig with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: leave a 30-minute buffer at dropoff for a relaxed final inspection.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a campervan rental a good choice for exploring around Bel Air South?
Yes, a campervan rental Bel Air South is a great choice if you want easy driving plus the freedom to roam. Class B campervans (such as Mercedes Sprinter or Ram ProMaster builds) fit in standard parking spaces, get roughly 16 to 20 MPG, and handle Baltimore city streets, the winding roads through Gunpowder Falls State Park, and I-95 traffic with ease. They're ideal for couples or small families heading to weekend spots like Pretty Boy Reservoir, Ladew Topiary Gardens, or a quick run up to Gettysburg. Most include a bed, mini-kitchen, and either a wet bath or portable toilet. Filter by Class B on RVezy and reserve early for fall foliage season.
