Campgrounds near Chestertown
Chestertown sits on the Chester River in Kent County on Maryland's Upper Eastern Shore, and it works well as a base for RV travelers exploring the Chesapeake Bay region. The nearest options range from private full-hookup parks along the water to state park campgrounds with electric loops and rustic cabins.
Duck Neck Campground is a family-oriented park on the Chester River with full hookup RV sites and a marina, offering access to fishing, crabbing, and boating. Bay Shore Campground sits directly on the Chesapeake Bay near Rock Hall, with waterfront views and a short drive into town from Chestertown.
For state park camping, Tuckahoe State Park covers roughly 4,000 acres divided by Tuckahoe Creek, with a 60-acre lake for boating and fishing, while Elk Neck State Park occupies a peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and the Elk River, with miles of trails, a boat launch, a swim beach, and a mix of RV sites, mini cabins, and rustic cabins. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina extends the search radius toward the Bush River on the western side of the bay.
Things to do around Chestertown
Water activity drives most trips here. The Chester River supports fishing, crabbing, and boating, and Bay Shore Campground offers direct shoreline access along the Chesapeake. Kayakers and canoers use the flat water at Tuckahoe Creek and the lake inside Tuckahoe State Park.
On land, Tuckahoe State Park offers hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, flat-water paddling, picnicking, and playgrounds, and Adkins Arboretum occupies 400 acres within the park with plantings native to the Delmarva region. At Elk Neck, families hike to Turkey Point Lighthouse, which sits on a bluff overlooking the Upper Chesapeake Bay.
Chestertown itself is walkable, with a historic waterfront district, a seasonal farmers market, and shops and restaurants along High Street that make an easy afternoon off the campground.

43° / 27°F 85 mmCold and quiet; many private parks close amenities.
The prime RV window on the Upper Eastern Shore runs from April through October. Spring brings mild temperatures and blooming trees, and the shoulder months of May and September tend to have the most reliable weather without peak-season crowds.
Summer is the busiest booking window. Humidity climbs and afternoon thunderstorms are common, with mid-summer heat indices often making midday activity uncomfortable. State park sites at Tuckahoe and Elk Neck fill fastest on holiday weekends, so reserve early if a Memorial Day, July 4, or Labor Day trip is planned.
Fall offers cooler nights and lighter crowds, though tropical systems can occasionally track up the bay in September. Winter access varies by park. Elk Neck State Park stays open year round, and Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina operates year round on the Bush River. Private parks with pools and marinas often close amenities from late fall through early spring, and some seasonal parks shut down entirely between roughly November and March.

How to book campgrounds near Chestertown
Maryland state park campgrounds are reserved through the state's central system at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by phone through the reservation call center. Reservations are available up to 365 days in advance of the arrival date, and new inventory is released each morning the call center is open. The same window applies to both Tuckahoe State Park and Elk Neck State Park.
Minimum-stay rules apply in peak season: two nights on summer weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and three nights on holiday weekends. Private parks each use their own booking channels. Duck Neck Campground, Bay Shore Campground, and Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina all take reservations through their own websites. For summer weekends and holidays, popular waterfront sites should be locked in several weeks or months ahead.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of full-hookup private parks and simpler state park loops. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina offers sites with water, electric, and sewer, with pull-through options that accommodate larger rigs. Duck Neck and Bay Shore include water and electric with laundry, restrooms, and camp stores; sewer availability varies by site.
State park campgrounds are more basic. At Tuckahoe, sites are typically 30 amp with no individual water or sewer, and water is drawn from stations around the loops served by a central bathhouse. Elk Neck offers a mix of electric sites, non-electric sites, mini cabins, and rustic cabins across several loops.
Cell coverage on the Eastern Shore can be uneven inside wooded loops, and access roads into the more remote parks can be narrow. Big rigs are generally accommodated, but confirm site length limits at the time of booking.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chestertown,MarylandWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Chestertown, MD?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Chestertown, with no CDL or special endorsement required in Maryland for personal-use motorhomes and trailers. You will need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking, so the whole process happens online before you ever meet the host. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association before your trip and you are set. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick approval is, often within a day, leaving you free to focus on planning your Chesapeake Bay itinerary.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Chestertown RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Eastern Shore knowing you have real backup. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV, and you choose your level of coverage during the booking process, not the host, which means you control how much peace of mind you want. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on your Chestertown RV trip, from a parking-lot scrape on High Street to a flat tire on Route 213. That built-in safety net is exactly why many first-timers feel confident booking with RVezy.

Booking is lower-risk than you might think because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, so the rules are consistent across every Chestertown listing. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, and additional protections apply for qualifying situations like host cancellations. The exact terms depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, and the full details are spelled out clearly in the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates for popular events like the Chestertown Tea Party Festival on Memorial Day weekend, knowing flexibility is built in.

Absolutely, Chestertown is one of the most dog-friendly towns on the Delmarva Peninsula, and plenty of hosts on RVezy welcome four-legged co-pilots. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see every pet-friendly RV rental in Chestertown at a glance, then message the host with your pet's size and breed to confirm details. Once you arrive, the Wayne Gilchrest Rail Trail is perfect for morning walks, and Wilmer Park has wide-open lawns along the Chester River where pups love to romp. Bring a leash, waste bags, and a comfy bed for the RV and your dog will settle in as fast as you do.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chestertown,MarylandCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Chestertown?
Yes, RV delivery in Chestertown is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather not tow or drive a motorhome on Route 50 or the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Many local hosts will deliver right to Duck Neck Campground, a private driveway, or a state park nearby, level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter listings by Delivery and enter your destination address to see which hosts serve that spot, along with their delivery fees. By the time you arrive, your campervan rental in Chestertown is set up and ready, so you can head straight to the farmers market on Saturday morning.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chestertown,MarylandHow far can I travel on an RV road trip from Chestertown?
Chestertown is a fantastic launch point because so much is within easy day-trip distance, and most hosts offer generous mileage allowances with options to add unlimited mileage during booking. Annapolis sits about 45 miles southwest across the Bay Bridge, Rehoboth Beach is around 75 miles east in Delaware, Assateague Island National Seashore with its wild ponies is roughly 110 miles south, and Washington D.C. is about 90 miles away. For a longer RV road trip from Chestertown, Shenandoah National Park is a scenic 175-mile drive west. Pro tip: ask the host about an unlimited mileage add-on if you are planning to loop multiple destinations, it usually pays for itself by day three.
nps.gov/asis/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Chestertown for RV camping?

parkreservations.maryland.gov/When is the best time of year to visit Chestertown in an RV?
Chestertown shines from mid-April through early November, with the sweet spots being May and September into October. Spring temperatures run 60s to mid-70s, perfect for the Chestertown Tea Party Festival on Memorial Day weekend, while fall delivers crisp 50s to 70s and beautiful color along the Chester River. Summer is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s and occasional afternoon thunderstorms, so look for shaded sites and air-conditioned rigs. Winter is mild but quieter, with many private campgrounds closing for parts of December through February. Pro tip: time your trip with Downrigging Weekend in late October to see the tall ship Sultana under full sail.
weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Chestertown?
You will be just fine, especially in Chestertown where roads are wide, traffic is light, and the historic downtown is laid out on an easy grid along the Chester River. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, the kitchen, the awning, and dump procedures, so you are never sent off guessing. If you are nervous about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Route 50, ask for delivery instead and skip the drive entirely. First time renting an RV? Stick with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer in the 22-to-25-foot range, they handle a lot like a big van and park easily at Duck Neck or in town.
mva.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Chestertown RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on Route 213, a dead battery at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge, or a propane issue at Duck Neck Campground, help is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct message away for quick questions about quirks of their specific rig, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's roadside assistance card at pickup and save it to your phone, so you have the number ready even if cell signal is weak in rural Kent County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Chestertown RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, so a loop from Chestertown into Delaware for Rehoboth Beach, Pennsylvania for Lancaster, or Virginia for Shenandoah National Park is totally doable. Travel into Canada is sometimes allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message them directly before booking if a cross-border trip is on your wish list. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Chestertown include the Delmarva beach loop through Assateague, the Brandywine Valley drive into Pennsylvania, and the Skyline Drive run through northern Virginia. Confirm your route with the host so mileage and travel area are squared away upfront.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Chestertown RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger line items, but Chestertown's flat Eastern Shore terrain helps keep consumption reasonable. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C motorhome rental in Chestertown, 18 to 22 mpg for a campervan, and 12 to 16 mpg for trucks towing a travel trailer. Maryland gas prices typically run a few cents above the national average, and you'll find competitive pumps along Route 213 and Route 301. Pro tip: fill up before crossing the Bay Bridge into Annapolis where prices often jump, and use apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest diesel along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Chestertown?
Book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends and signature events like the Tea Party Festival and Dickens of a Christmas. Maryland state parks like Elk Neck and Tuckahoe open reservations up to a full year in advance through the Maryland DNR online system, and prime waterfront sites disappear within days of opening. Duck Neck Campground takes reservations directly and fills quickly for Memorial Day through Labor Day. For shoulder-season trips in April, September, or October, two to four weeks out is usually plenty. Pro tip: if your dream campground is full, ask about cancellation lists, last-minute openings are surprisingly common on the Eastern Shore.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What are driving conditions like around Chestertown?
Driving around Chestertown is genuinely relaxing compared to most East Coast destinations, with flat farm-country roads, light traffic, and clear sightlines. The biggest thing to watch is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Route 50/301, where high winds occasionally trigger restrictions for high-profile vehicles, so check Maryland Transportation Authority advisories before you cross. Route 213, the main north-south corridor through Kent County, is two lanes with easy shoulders. Avoid taking large rigs down narrow downtown streets like Cannon or Queen Street, stick to Cross Street and the marina lots. Pro tip: cross the Bay Bridge eastbound on Friday morning, not afternoon, to skip the worst Ocean City beach traffic.
mdta.maryland.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Chestertown?
Campgrounds around Chestertown generally offer the full Eastern Shore package. Duck Neck Campground has full-hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer at each pad, plus a dump station, marina, fishing pier, and bathhouses. Elk Neck State Park provides electric sites with a central dump station and potable water fills near the entrance. Tuckahoe State Park offers electric and basic sites with shared facilities. Most parks have potable water fills near the entrance and dump stations available to registered campers. Pro tip: if you need to dump or fill water midtrip, many private parks allow non-guests to use their dump station for a small fee, just call ahead or check the Maryland DNR park pages.

Many listings include a TV, generator, outdoor awning, and outdoor speakers for tailgating before a Washington College Shoremen game. Hosts in the Chestertown area offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip. Popular options include linens and towel packages, camp chairs and tables, bikes for riding the Wayne Gilchrest Rail Trail, propane fills, generator hours, kayaks for paddling the Chester River, and pet fees if you are bringing the dog. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many hosts offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and a per-mile rate beyond that, plus unlimited-mileage upgrades. Pickup usually happens at the host's home or an agreed meeting spot in town. Pro tip: bundle the linens and kitchen kits if you are flying in, it saves a shopping run on day one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Chestertown,MarylandHow do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully online, no cash changes hands with the host. You pay through RVezy by credit card when you book, and the platform holds your funds securely until your trip begins. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host based on the RV's value, and it is released after the trip assuming the RV comes back in the same shape it left. To avoid surprises, do a thorough video walkaround with your host at both pickup and dropoff, note existing scratches, and return the rig with a full fuel tank and clean holding tanks if those are part of your agreement. Simple steps, smooth deposit return.
