Elkton camping overview
Elkton sits at the head of the Chesapeake Bay in Cecil County, Maryland, where the Elk River meets the bay and the state's northeastern corner brushes Pennsylvania and Delaware. The area is a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Upper Chesapeake, with I-95 access and quick reach to Wilmington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia through a mix of state land and private parks.
Elk Neck State Park anchors the public camping options, occupying a 2,370-acre peninsula formed by the Chesapeake Bay and the Elk River with marshlands, wooded areas, white clay cliffs, and sandy shorelines. Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area covers roughly 5,600 acres of former duPont farmland north of town, laced with about 80 miles of multi-use trails.
Private options round out the choices. Woodlands Camping Resort operates year-round in the Elk Neck State Forest, while Camp Country Center and Oma's Family Campground provide additional family-oriented sites nearby. Together these campgrounds cover full-hookup RV needs, tent camping, cabins, and equestrian setups.
Things to do near Elkton
Elk Neck State Park is the outdoor centerpiece. The park has about 6 miles of trails, a boat launch, an unguarded swimming area, a nature center, and a park store, with the short walk to Turkey Point Lighthouse at the southern tip of the peninsula as the signature hike. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and picnicking along the bay and Elk River fill out most itineraries.
At Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, the trail network draws hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners, and equestrians, with the 2.5-mile Red Trail on the easier end and the 6.8-mile Blue Diamond Trail as the longest route. The area also hosts the Maryland 5 Star, a top-tier eventing competition, each fall. Elkton's historic downtown, the Cecil County Fair, and nearby Wilmington and Longwood Gardens across the Pennsylvania line make easy day trips.

Elkton has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Woodlands Camping Resort stays open year-round for transient camping, with its seasonal program running April 1 to October 31.
Spring brings mild temperatures, blooming woodlands, and higher water levels on Big Elk Creek and the Elk River. Summer is warm and humid, with July averaging highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and the busiest weekends and holidays at Elk Neck. Booking early is recommended for summer and holiday stays since the park is popular.
Fall is a strong shoulder season with cooler nights, foliage across Fair Hill's hayfields and woodlands, and the Maryland 5 Star drawing crowds in October. Winter is chilly and damp, snow is possible from December into March, and many private-park amenities scale back.
How to book campgrounds near Elkton
Elk Neck State Park reservations go through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources system at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by phone at 1-888-432-2267, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sites can be booked up to 365 days in advance. The campground has over 250 sites plus mini and rustic cabins across loops that include Elk, Choptank, Miles, and Wye, with full hookups available at sites 1 through 31.
Fair Hill NRMA handles overnight stays differently. It offers equestrian camping by reservation through the park's website and two primitive youth group camping areas for organized groups; the park office can be reached at 410-398-1246, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Private parks such as Woodlands Camping Resort, Camp Country Center, and Oma's Family Campground are booked directly through each property.
What to expect on arrival
Elk Neck check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is 1 p.m. The campground is divided into loops for RVs, tent-only sites, and cabins, with hot showers, laundry, and a park store on site. Cell service can be limited inside the campground, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
Woodlands Camping Resort offers large wooded sites with 50 and 30 amp electric, a 24-hour bathhouse, a swimming pool, fishing pond, playground, and weekend activities during the seasonal window. It is largely a seasonal park with a small number of transient spots, so calling ahead helps.
Fair Hill NRMA is a day-use natural resources area for most visitors, open sunrise to sunset, with camping restricted to equestrian and youth group use. Pets are allowed leashed in most areas. Access to some zones is restricted during competitions and the Cecil County Fair.

Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) only requires a non-commercial Class B license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy falls well under that threshold. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to rent an RV in Elkton without any extra paperwork.

Whether you are heading to Elk Neck State Park or driving I-95 toward Baltimore, you are backed by real support. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and again at drop-off so any pre-existing scratches on the rig are documented.

If a host needs to cancel, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credit. The full policy is available in your booking confirmation and on the RVezy Help Center, and our support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Canadian trips may be allowed with host approval and an insurance check, so message the host before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border.
