Campgrounds near Ferndale, Maryland
Ferndale sits in Anne Arundel County just south of Baltimore, wedged between BWI Airport, I-97, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. That location puts RV travelers within a short drive of both Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Washington, D.C., and within reach of Chesapeake Bay parks.
The closest full-hookup option is Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville, followed by Greenbelt Park Campground, a wooded park about 10 miles from Washington, D.C. For a more rustic stay, Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area offers state-park camping along the Patapsco River, roughly fifteen minutes west of Ferndale, though the campground has been closed for renovations, so confirm status before booking.
Farther south toward the capital, Cherry Hill Park in College Park is a large private resort popular with families visiting D.C., and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC provides another private option with amenities geared to longer RV stays. Together these five parks cover the range from full-service resort to primitive federal and state-park loops.
Things to do near Ferndale
Day trips break down by direction. North leads to Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, Fort McHenry, and Camden Yards. West on I-70 reaches Patapsco Valley State Park, where the Hollofield, Avalon, and McKeldin areas offer hiking, mountain biking, and access to the Patapsco River.
South via the BW Parkway puts the Smithsonian museums, the National Mall, and the National Zoo within about an hour. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center sits near Greenbelt Park and is free to visit.
Closer to Ferndale, the BWI Trail loops the airport for cycling, and Sandy Point State Park on the Chesapeake Bay has a swimming beach and boat rentals. Annapolis, with the Naval Academy and the historic waterfront, is about twenty minutes east.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through early October. Reserve months ahead for those windows.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. April and May bring cherry blossoms and mild temperatures; September and October offer cooler nights and fall color along the Patapsco Valley. Maryland state-park campgrounds at Patapsco typically operate seasonally from April through October.
Winter is mild by northern standards but wet, with occasional snow and hard freezes. Greenbelt Park Campground is open year round, and Cherry Hill Park operates year-round as well, while the Patapsco Valley Hollofield campground closes for the cold months and has also been closed for renovations. Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

How to book a campground near Ferndale
Federal and state parks use separate reservation systems. Greenbelt Park Campground books through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window, and payment is no longer accepted on site. Sites have no water or electric hookups, but hot showers, flush toilets, and a dump station are available to registered campers.
Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area is booked through the Maryland Park Service reservation portal, which allows reservations up to 365 days in advance; check the portal for current status, since the Hollofield campground has been closed for renovations.
Private parks including Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, Cherry Hill Park, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC take reservations directly through their own websites or franchise systems, often with longer booking windows and full hookups. Book six to eight weeks ahead for peak summer and holiday weekends.
What to expect on-site
Private parks in this corridor are set up for larger rigs and offer full hookups, laundry, pools, and shuttle or transit access to D.C. Cherry Hill Park in particular runs a Metro shuttle in season, and the Capitol KOA has pull-through sites suited to Class A motorhomes and travel trailers.
Greenbelt Park Campground is quieter and more wooded, with 174 primitive sites across multiple loops. B Loop accommodates tents and RVs under 30 feet, while D Loop handles larger RVs up to 45 feet. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings, and generators are allowed during posted hours.
When open, Patapsco Valley Hollofield sites are rustic, with some electric hookups on the inner loop and an 11-foot height restriction on the eastbound approach. Cell coverage is generally strong across the region on major carriers. Mid-Atlantic ticks and mosquitoes are active spring through fall, so plan repellent and long sleeves for evening walks.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ferndale, MD?
RV rental in Ferndale, MD is one of the most budget-friendly ways to explore the Chesapeake Bay region. Travel trailers typically run $75 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $150 to $275, and larger Class A motorhomes can reach $300 or more per night. Because Ferndale sits between Baltimore and Annapolis just off I-695 and I-97, you get city access without the city price tag. To find a cheap RV rental in Ferndale, search mid-week dates, look outside the June to August peak, and filter by Instant Book to spot quick-confirm deals. Pro tip: many local hosts offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, which is perfect for a longer Eastern Shore loop.
visitmaryland.org/things-to-do/camping-rvDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ferndale, Maryland?
Good news: for nearly every RV you can rent on RVezy in Ferndale, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. Maryland only requires a non-commercial Class B license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost all Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on the platform fall well below that limit. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right in the app. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. Most first-time renters in Maryland are surprised by how straightforward the process is.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included on RVezy?
Yes, every RV rental in Ferndale, MD booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Baltimore-Washington Parkway with confidence. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle, and you choose the coverage level that fits your trip during checkout (not the host). If a tire blows on I-97 heading to Annapolis or your battery dies at Sandy Point State Park, one call gets help dispatched to your location. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers before booking so you can pick what feels right for your family RV trip in Ferndale.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Ferndale RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (not the host), and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to confirm plans. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a Chesapeake nor'easter or unexpected event impacts your trip, RVezy support is available to help you sort options. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Ferndale rigs for Preakness weekend or Naval Academy graduation, knowing the cancellation policy has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Ferndale, MD RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Ferndale, MD is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see local rigs whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) for a small cleaning fee. Once you're on the road, your pup will love nearby Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena with leashed Chesapeake Bay views, the wooded trails at Lake Waterford Park, and the off-leash area at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis just 20 minutes south. Most state park campgrounds in Maryland allow pets on leash. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your dog's size and breed are a fit, and ask about nearby vet clinics in Glen Burnie just in case.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/Pets-In-Parks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Ferndale?
Yes, RV delivery in Ferndale is one of the most popular ways to start a trip here, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will drive the rig directly to your campsite at Patapsco Valley State Park, Cherry Hill Park, or to your home driveway in Glen Burnie or Pasadena, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which Ferndale-area hosts offer it and their delivery fees, which usually scale by distance. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you are flying into BWI Airport just a few miles away, skip the rental car shuffle entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferndale%2C%20MarylandHow do mileage policies work for RV rentals in Ferndale?

Pro tip: if you are planning a big RV road trip from Ferndale down to Assateague Island or up to the Poconos, message the host about a flat-rate mileage package before booking, many will say yes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferndale%2C%20MarylandWhere can I camp with my RV near Ferndale, MD?
You've got fantastic options for RV camping Ferndale within a short drive. Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville is about 10 minutes south with full hookups and a shuttle to DC and Baltimore. Patapsco Valley State Park (Hollofield Area) in Ellicott City is roughly 20 minutes west with electric sites and 200+ miles of trails. Cherry Hill Park in College Park, about 30 minutes south toward DC, is one of the highest-rated full-service RV resorts on the East Coast. For a Chesapeake fix, Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis offers day-use waterfront, while Elk Neck State Park is 60 minutes northeast for forested bay-side sites. Pro tip: reserve Maryland state park sites at parkreservations.maryland.gov up to a year in advance for summer weekends.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/When is the best time to rent an RV in Ferndale, Maryland?
The sweet spot for a Ferndale RV trip is mid-April through early June and again from September through late October, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 78 F range and humidity drops. July and August are warm and humid with highs around 87 F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so look for rigs with strong air conditioning. Fall delivers beautiful color along the C&O Canal and Catoctin Mountains. Winters are mild but damp, averaging 30 to 45 F, and some hosts still rent year-round with heated water tanks. Pro tip: book a campervan rental in Ferndale for late September to catch the US Sailboat Show in Annapolis without the summer crowds.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting one in Ferndale?
You'll be fine, and you're far from alone. Every RVezy host does a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, the propane system, the generator, slide-outs, and dumping, and you can message them anytime during your trip. For first time renting an RV in the Baltimore-Annapolis area, consider a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer — they handle a lot like a big van. Stick to I-97, MD-100, and US-50 for easy lanes and avoid downtown Baltimore's narrow streets and the lower clearances on the Jones Falls Expressway tunnels. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in a big parking lot like Arundel Mills before pointing toward the Bay Bridge.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing, whether you are stuck on the Baltimore Beltway, at Deep Creek Lake, or on the Bay Bridge. Start by calling roadside assistance, then message your host through the RVezy app so they can troubleshoot quirks specific to their rig. RVezy support is also reachable before, during, and after every trip if you need help escalating an issue. Pro tip: snap photos of any issue right away and keep receipts, it makes any follow-up resolution faster and smoother once you are back home in Ferndale.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips I can take from Ferndale, MD?
Ferndale's location makes it a launchpad for great East Coast RV road trips. Head about 145 miles southwest to Shenandoah National Park for Skyline Drive, 140 miles east to Ocean City and Assateague Island's wild horses, 180 miles north to Gettysburg and the Poconos, or 240 miles south to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Chesapeake Bay loop via the 4.3-mile Bay Bridge to St. Michaels and Tilghman Island is a perfect 3-day getaway. Cross-border travel into Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and West Virginia is generally fine on RVezy, just confirm with your host. Mexico travel is not allowed due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: avoid the Bay Bridge on Friday afternoons in summer when backups can hit two or more hours.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Ferndale RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable in your budget, but it's predictable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes around 7 to 10 MPG. Anne Arundel County gas prices typically run a few cents below the Maryland state average, and you'll find competitive diesel at the Royal Farms and Wawa stations along Ritchie Highway (MD-2) and Crain Highway. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Ferndale or Glen Burnie before heading toward Annapolis or DC, where prices tend to jump 15 to 30 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Ferndale?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best spots. Maryland state parks like Patapsco Valley, Sandy Point, and Elk Neck open reservations up to 12 months in advance through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and summer weekends near the Chesapeake fill quickly — often 4 to 6 months out for waterfront sites. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park and Capitol KOA take bookings on their own websites and tend to sell out 2 to 3 months ahead for July, August, and any DC holiday weekend. Off-season midweek? You can often grab a site a few days out. Pro tip: book your RV on RVezy first, then your campground — knowing your rig length and slide-out count makes site selection much easier.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What are driving conditions like around Ferndale?
Ferndale's roads are RV-friendly once you know the local quirks. I-97, MD-100, and I-695 (the Baltimore Beltway) all have wide lanes and easy on-ramps. Note that propane-equipped RVs are restricted in the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) and Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895), so route through I-695 or the western Beltway. The Bay Bridge (US-50) is fine for RVs but can get windy; check Maryland Transportation Authority alerts before crossing. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast, so plan driving for mornings. Pro tip: check the MDTA traveler info site before your trip for live tunnel restrictions, toll info, and bridge wind advisories, it can save you a major reroute.
mdta.maryland.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ferndale?
You'll find everything from full-service resorts to rustic state park sites. Cherry Hill Park and Capitol KOA offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Maryland state parks like Patapsco Valley and Sandy Point typically offer electric-only sites with shared bathhouses, potable water fill stations, and centralized dump stations. For best campgrounds near Ferndale with dump stations, Capitol KOA in Millersville and Bar Harbor RV Park in Abingdon are both reliable spots. Most parks sell firewood on site (don't transport your own per Maryland's emerald ash borer rules). Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground — fill stations on US-50 toward Ocean City can be scarce on summer weekends.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/CampingInMaryland.aspxWhat's included inside a typical Ferndale RV rental?
Local rentals are stocked for comfort. Expect a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or sofa bed, a kitchen with fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower. Most Class C motorhome rental Ferndale options sleep 4 to 7, include roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for muggy July nights), a furnace, a generator or shore power, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts add TVs, Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and stocked kitchen kits. Always confirm linens and towels — some include them, some offer them as an add-on. Pro tip: ask your host about a Starlink or hotspot if you plan to work from the Chesapeake — cell coverage on the Eastern Shore can be spotty.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/cell-phone-coverageWhat add-ons and pickup options do Ferndale hosts offer?
Hosts in Ferndale make it easy to customize. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, generators, bike racks, paddleboards (perfect for the Magothy River), and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's address in Ferndale, Glen Burnie, or Pasadena, with most flexible on a 1 to 3 hour orientation window. Many will deliver to BWI Airport (4 miles), Baltimore Penn Station, or directly to your campground. Mileage and generator hour policies are listed clearly on every listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery + setup + linens for a stress-free arrival, especially if you're traveling with kids or flying in for a family RV trip Ferndale.
bwiairport.com/at-bwi/ground-transportationHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host, and your rental total, protection plan, and any add-ons are itemized before you confirm. Hosts in Ferndale typically require a refundable security deposit, which is separate from your booking payment and is held (not charged) on your card before pickup, then released after drop-off assuming no damage or excessive cleaning is needed. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane level, and dump tanks if required. Pro tip: keep gas and dump-station receipts from your Annapolis or Ocean City stops as proof, just in case.
