Camping near Gambrills, Maryland
Gambrills sits in Anne Arundel County between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., putting RV travelers within an hour of both cities and the Chesapeake Bay. The area works well as a base for families combining outdoor time with day trips to national museums, historic Annapolis, and Patapsco Valley trails. Most campgrounds in the region are within a 30 to 60 minute drive of Gambrills.
Options range from full-hookup resort parks to primitive national and state park sites. Cherry Hill Park in nearby College Park is a family-oriented campground with full hook-up RV sites, tent spaces, glamping options, plus pools, a splash park, and a dog park. Greenbelt Park Campground is an urban oasis about 10 miles from Washington, D.C., and does not have water or electric hookups.
Additional choices include Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, and, when open, Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area for a wooded state-park experience closer to Baltimore.
Things to do near Gambrills
The region blends city sightseeing with river valleys, forests, and Chesapeake shoreline. Washington, D.C. delivers the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and the U.S. Capitol, while Annapolis offers a walkable historic waterfront and the U.S. Naval Academy. Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, and Fort McHenry round out the urban options.
For outdoor days, Patapsco Valley supports hiking, fishing, canoeing, horseback trails, and mountain bike trails along the Patapsco River. Greenbelt Park is forested with a pleasant mix of pine, oak and maple trees, mountain laurel blooms in May, and deer and chipmunks are commonly seen.
Families staying at resort-style parks get extra on-site activities. Cherry Hill Park adds pools, a splash park, a dog park, sports courts, and access to biking trails.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in central Maryland, with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity than summer. Spring brings cherry blossoms in D.C. and mountain laurel in the parks, while fall delivers foliage along the Patapsco and Potomac corridors. Weekend sites at popular parks book out weeks ahead in these shoulder seasons.
Summer is peak family season and also the hottest, most humid, and most crowded time. Thunderstorms are frequent, and biting insects and ticks are active, so tick repellent and long layers are worth packing from spring through early fall.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Greenbelt Campground offers year-round reservations, and Cherry Hill Park operates through the colder months, while some state park loops close seasonally. The Hollofield area campground is currently closed for renovations, while the Hollofield day use area is open regular hours and the day use pavilions are available to reserve as normal.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.
Ronald V. - Oct 2026
We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

How to book campgrounds near Gambrills
Reservation systems vary by operator. Reservations for campsites at Greenbelt Park must be made online at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Sites may be booked 6 months in advance, payment is not accepted on site, and you must book your campsite in advance or upon arrival using the Recreation.gov website or call center.
Reservations for Hollofield Campground are made through the Maryland Park Service reservation system, and the campground tends to fill up during peak seasons, so booking well in advance is recommended. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 365 days in advance.
Private parks such as Cherry Hill Park, Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC take reservations directly through their own websites or partner platforms. Book early for spring cherry-blossom weekends and any date tied to a D.C. event.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of urban proximity and wooded settings. Road noise carries into some parks because the corridor is dense with highways, and cell service is generally strong. Reviewers at Greenbelt note the campground sits close enough to roads that some traffic hum is audible.
Rig size matters at the more natural campgrounds. At Greenbelt there is an RV limit of 30 feet including tow vehicle in B Loop and limited availability for larger vehicles up to 35 feet in D loop. At Hollofield, campers whose units are over 11 feet 1 inch in height must enter the park by the Route 40 East Entrance.
Hookups differ sharply between parks. Greenbelt Campground does not have water or electric hookups, while private resorts near D.C. typically offer full hookups, laundry, showers, and pools.

visitmaryland.org/things-to-do/camping-in-marylandWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Gambrills, Maryland?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Gambrills. Maryland does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license (CDL) for motorhomes or trailers that recreational renters use on RVezy. You'll just need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and we'll verify your ID quickly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), which usually costs under $20 from your local auto association. That's it. Most first-time renters in Anne Arundel County are surprised at how simple the paperwork really is.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/default.aspxWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Gambrills?
You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Gambrills comes with an RVezy renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you're never stranded on I-97, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, or anywhere else on your trip. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your trip and gives you real financial peace of mind. During checkout you choose the coverage tier that fits your comfort level, and it's set by RVezy rather than the individual host. Pro tip: review the plan details before pickup so you can focus on enjoying the Chesapeake Bay region instead of worrying about the small stuff.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Gambrills RV trip?
Booking is genuinely low-risk. RVezy sets a clear, standardized cancellation policy that applies across listings (hosts don't define it themselves), and it includes a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, the refund amount depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so you're not left scrambling. Pro tip: lock in your dates early to get the best selection for your Gambrills RV trip, knowing you have a built-in window to change your mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Gambrills RV rental?
Absolutely. Many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Gambrills, so your pup can come along for the adventure. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy when you search, and you'll see only the listings that welcome four-legged guests. Once you've found a match, message the host to mention your dog's size and breed. Locally, Sandy Point State Park (about 25 minutes east near Annapolis) has a designated dog beach on the Chesapeake Bay, and Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis features a popular off-leash dog park and dog beach. Pro tip: pack a long-line leash, since most Maryland state park campgrounds require pets to stay leashed at your campsite.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/PetPolicy.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Gambrills?
Yes, and it's one of the best ways to start an RV trip stress-free. Many Gambrills hosts offer RV delivery to your driveway or to a nearby campground like Cherry Hill Park in College Park or the Washington DC/Capitol KOA in Millersville, just minutes from Gambrills. Your host will set up the RV, level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. To find this option, use the Delivery filter when browsing motorhome rental in Gambrills on RVezy. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for first time renting an RV, because you skip the highway driving and start your trip already parked at your site.

From Gambrills you're roughly 30 minutes from Annapolis, 45 minutes from Baltimore, about an hour from Washington D.C., 2.5 to 3 hours from Ocean City, MD, around 2.5 hours from Shenandoah National Park, and about 3 hours to Assateague Island's wild ponies. Pro tip: estimate your total miles before booking and message the host if you need extra; many will add miles up front for less than the per-mile overage at trip-end.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gambrills%2C%20MarylandWhere are the best campgrounds near Gambrills, MD?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Gambrills include Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville (about 10 minutes away), Cherry Hill Park in College Park (around 35 minutes, pet-friendly with pools and a hot tub), Patapsco Valley State Park (about 30 minutes northwest, with wooded sites and electric hookups), and Greenbelt Park run by the National Park Service (around 35 minutes, with a flat nightly fee). For RV camping near Gambrills, many RVezy hosts will deliver directly to these parks so you can skip the towing. Pro tip: Capitol KOA Holiday is the easiest first-night choice for first-timers wanting full hookups close to home base.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htmWhen is the best time of year for a Gambrills RV trip?
Late April through mid-June and September through late October are the sweet spots. Spring brings 60-75°F days, blooming cherry blossoms in nearby D.C., and lower humidity. Fall delivers crisp 55-70°F afternoons and brilliant foliage across the Patuxent and Patapsco watersheds. July and August are very doable but expect 85-95°F with high humidity, so target RVs with strong air conditioning. Winter RV camping in Gambrills is possible (lows average 25-35°F in January), and several area campgrounds stay open year-round with electric hookups. Pro tip: book Memorial Day, July 4th, and Columbus Day weekends at least 2-3 months ahead, since these are peak weekends for Anne Arundel County campgrounds.
weather.gov/lwx/climateI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and you won't be doing it alone. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures, so you leave feeling confident. For first time renting an RV in Gambrills, consider starting with a Class B campervan or a smaller Class C, both of which drive much like a large van. Skip rush-hour on I-95, I-695, and the Capital Beltway (6-9 a.m. and 3-7 p.m.) and you'll find Maryland's roads totally manageable. Pro tip: ask your host to record a short video of the orientation on your phone so you can replay it at your first campsite.
mva.maryland.gov/safety/Pages/MDDriversManual.aspxWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Gambrills, Maryland includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing anywhere from Gambrills to Ocean City. If something goes sideways on Route 50 heading to the beach or on I-70 toward the mountains, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app for quick fixes like resetting the inverter or finding the propane valve. Pro tip: snap photos of the breaker panel, water connections, and propane setup during your walkthrough so troubleshooting over the phone is a breeze.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trip routes from Gambrills?
You're in a road-tripper's paradise. Popular RV road trip routes from Gambrills include the Chesapeake Bay loop down U.S. 50 to Ocean City and Assateague Island (about 130 miles), the Skyline Drive run through Shenandoah National Park in Virginia (around 150 miles west), the Civil War circuit through Gettysburg, Antietam, and Harpers Ferry (a 200-mile loop), and the Outer Banks of North Carolina (about 6 hours south). Cross-border travel between U.S. states is fully allowed on RVezy. Travel into Canada may be permitted with host approval; travel to Mexico is not allowed because insurance doesn't extend there. Pro tip: book Assateague's oceanfront sites 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov.
nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for?
Budgeting is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes around 8-12 MPG, Class A motorhomes about 6-10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10-14 MPG). Maryland gas prices generally run about 10-20 cents above the national average, with stations along Route 3 and MD-32 near Gambrills usually cheaper than I-95 service plazas. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, plan on roughly $90-$120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Gambrills or Odenton before heading out; gas at the Maryland House and Chesapeake House travel plazas on I-95 is notably pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gambrills?
The earlier the better, especially for summer and fall weekends. Maryland State Parks (including Patapsco Valley, Sandy Point, and Assateague) open reservations up to 12 months out through the Maryland State Parks reservation system, and prime summer sites can fill within hours of release. National Park Service sites like Greenbelt Park and Assateague book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months ahead. Private parks like Capitol KOA Holiday and Cherry Hill Park often have more last-minute availability but still sell out around July 4th and Labor Day. Pro tip: for a Memorial Day Gambrills RV trip, set a calendar reminder to book the prior year as soon as your dates open, when the most coveted sites are released.
recreation.gov/What's it like driving an RV around Gambrills and the D.C./Baltimore area?
Easier than you'd think if you time it right. Gambrills sits on quiet roads like MD-3 and MD-175, perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Avoid the Capital Beltway (I-495) and I-95 between 6-9 a.m. and 3-7 p.m., when traffic crawls. Skip the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) and Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) in tall RVs; instead, use I-695 around the city, which has no height restrictions. Watch for 11-foot clearances on some D.C. parkways like Rock Creek and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, which prohibit commercial vehicles but allow personal RVs. Pro tip: if city driving makes you nervous, book delivery and you're 90 minutes from Shenandoah's mountains without ever touching the Beltway.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Gambrills?
Most campgrounds near Gambrills are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Private parks like Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville and Cherry Hill Park in College Park offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. Maryland State Parks like Patapsco Valley typically offer electric sites with shared bathhouses, potable water spigots, and centralized dump stations. For a paid dump or water fill near Gambrills, the Capitol KOA Holiday often allows drop-ins for a small fee. Pro tip: confirm sewer hookup before booking if you're staying 4+ nights; otherwise plan one mid-trip dump stop.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/camping.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Gambrills?
More than you'd expect, even on a cheap RV rental in Gambrills. Most listings include a real bed (often a queen), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (roof A/C and furnace), and seatbelted seating for travel. Many campervan rental Gambrills options add solar, indoor/outdoor showers, and Bluetooth audio. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often feature TVs, generators for boondocking, and slide-outs that dramatically expand living space. Each listing shows photos and a full amenities checklist so you know exactly what you're getting. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count plus must-have amenities (like generator or solar) to narrow your search fast.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gambrills%2C%20MarylandWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make it easy to customize your Gambrills RV trip. Common add-ons include camp chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks, generators, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees if you bring your dog. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Gambrills, with delivery available to local campgrounds for a flat fee plus mileage. Mileage allowances vary by listing, and unlimited mileage options exist if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Gambrills. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a propane top-off into one request; many hosts will discount the combo if you ask in the chat before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gambrills%2C%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, so there's no awkward cash exchange with your host. You'll pay your rental total securely by credit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, then released after the trip if everything checks out. The deposit is separate from your booking payment. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walkthrough photo/video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and stay within your mileage and generator-hour allowances. Pro tip: keep the gas receipt from your last fill-up near Gambrills as proof you topped off before returning the RV.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre there overnight RV parking rules I should know about near Gambrills?
Yes, and knowing them keeps your trip smooth. Overnight RV parking on Gambrills neighborhood streets is generally restricted, and Anne Arundel County limits long-term RV parking in residential driveways. For where to park an RV in Gambrills overnight, your best bets are designated campgrounds like Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville. Some Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations in the area allow one-night stays with manager permission, but policies vary by store, so it's worth a quick call ahead. Maryland rest areas do not allow overnight camping, only short-term rest. Pro tip: always call the store manager before counting on a parking-lot overnight, and book a real campsite for any longer stay so you can fully enjoy your Gambrills RV trip.
