Campgrounds near Havre de Grace
Havre de Grace sits at the head of Chesapeake Bay where the Susquehanna River meets the estuary, in Harford County, Maryland. RV renters use the town as a base for waterfront recreation, small-museum days, and easy I-95 access between Baltimore and Wilmington. Campground options within a short drive span Maryland state parks and privately owned RV parks with full hookups.
Susquehanna State Park sits on the banks of the lower Susquehanna River north of town, and it is the closest public campground to Havre de Grace. Across the bay, Elk Neck State Park occupies a peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and the Elk River in Cecil County, offering the largest campground in the area with over 250 sites.
Private options round out the picture. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina occupies a waterfront peninsula on the Bush River in nearby Abingdon, Woodlands Camping Resort operates a forested, family-oriented park in the area, and Camp Ramblewood provides a wooded, group-friendly setting inland.
Things to do in Havre de Grace
The waterfront is the anchor. Downtown drops from a low hill to a long line of marinas and a scenic promenade leading to Concord Point Lighthouse. Built in 1827, the lighthouse is one of the oldest continuously operated lights on the Chesapeake Bay, with a small Keeper's House Museum next door. The Havre de Grace Promenade is around three-quarters of a mile long and lined with benches.
Families typically pair the promenade with the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum and the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, both a short walk from the lighthouse.
For outdoor days, Susquehanna State Park offers more than fifteen miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus the restored Rock Run Historic Area. At Elk Neck State Park, a short trail leads to Turkey Point Lighthouse and expansive views of the upper Chesapeake Bay.

Camping season around Havre de Grace is shaped by Maryland state park calendars. Susquehanna State Park campground is open April through the last weekend in October. Elk Neck State Park campground is open April 1 through November 30, with reservable sites mid-April to mid-October and first-come, first-served camping in the off-season. The Elk Neck day-use park itself stays open year round.
Private parks stretch the calendar. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina operates year round, while Woodlands Camping Resort runs a spring-to-fall season. Summer weekends fill quickly at state park sites, and holiday weekends often carry a two-night minimum.
Spring and fall bring the best hiking weather and lighter crowds. Winter draws bird watchers to the lower Susquehanna, where bald eagles concentrate along the river and shoreline from December through February, a genuine reason for cold-weather visits by renters willing to camp without hookups nearby or use a year-round private park.

How to book near Havre de Grace
Maryland state parks use a single reservation system. Reservations for Elk Neck State Park and Susquehanna State Park can be made online at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by calling the reservations center at 1-888-432-2267, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Reservations open for today and can be made up to 365 days in advance, so summer holiday weekends should be booked as early as possible. Six of Susquehanna's 69 sites have electric hookups, and the maximum RV length is 30 feet, a hard limit worth checking before booking a larger rig. Elk Neck has full-hookup sites that accommodate bigger rigs.
Private parks book directly. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina, Woodlands Camping Resort, and Camp Ramblewood take reservations through their own websites or by phone, with deposit and cancellation terms set at the time of booking.

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Havre de Grace, MD. Maryland does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal recreational vehicles, even larger Class A motorhomes you might take down US-40 or I-95. Approved RVezy renters are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license works perfectly. Spring temperatures run roughly 55 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, summer (June through August) climbs to 80 to 90 with humidity and afternoon thunderstorms, and fall delivers crisp 50 to 70-degree days with brilliant color along the Susquehanna. Winter (December to February) drops to 25 to 45 degrees, and most state park campgrounds close, though some private parks and four-season rentals stay open. Time your visit to the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival in August or the Decoy & Wildlife Art Festival in early May for a uniquely Chesapeake experience.
weather.gov/lwx/I have never driven an RV before. Is it really doable in Havre de Grace?
You have got this, and Havre de Grace is a friendly place for first time renting an RV. The town sits just off I-95 with flat, gentle terrain, wide state roads like US-40 and MD-155, and straightforward routes to Susquehanna State Park. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, the awning, and the dump valves, and you can text them mid-trip with questions. If city driving in nearby Baltimore makes you nervous, choose a Class B campervan or travel trailer for easier handling, or book delivery so you skip driving the rig entirely. Most first-timers are amazed how quickly it clicks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-95, a dead battery at Susquehanna State Park, or a tow need anywhere in Maryland is one phone call away. Your host is also your first line of support and is typically quick to respond by message for things like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater. For bigger issues, RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip to coordinate solutions. Save the roadside number in your phone and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so any call goes faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Havre de Grace RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is built into the appeal of an RV rental in Maryland. Havre de Grace sits within a day's drive of seven states, and most RVezy hosts welcome trips into Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, and New York with no extra paperwork. Cross-border travel to Canada may be permitted depending on the specific host and protection coverage, so message the host directly from the listing before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state runs from Havre de Grace include the Brandywine Valley, the Pocono Mountains, and Virginia's Skyline Drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost on a Havre de Grace RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you would think. Gas prices in Maryland typically run close to the national average, and most travel trailers towed by an SUV or truck get 10 to 14 MPG, Class C motorhomes deliver 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs land around 6 to 10 MPG. For a 200-mile loop from Havre de Grace to Assateague and back, plan on roughly $80 to $130 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. Fill up at the Royal Farms or Wawa on MD-155 just off I-95 (exit 89) where prices tend to beat turnpike stations. Download GasBuddy for real-time pricing along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Havre de Grace?
Book early and you will thank yourself. Maryland state park sites, including Susquehanna State Park Campground and Elk Neck, take reservations through the Maryland Park Service reservation system, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) sell out fast after release. For a relaxed family RV trip in Havre de Grace, aim to lock in waterfront or electric sites four to six months ahead for peak season, or two to three weeks ahead for shoulder season midweek stays. If state parks are full, private options like Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina and Woodlands Camping Resort often have last-minute openings, especially Sunday through Thursday.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What are the driving conditions like around Havre de Grace?
Driving an RV around Havre de Grace is genuinely manageable. The town sits at the mouth of the Susquehanna River where I-95, US-40, and MD-155 meet, all wide and RV-friendly. The Hatem Bridge (US-40) carries RVs across the Susquehanna, while the I-95 Tydings Bridge has a toll and tight traffic during DC and Baltimore rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.) so plan around it. Watch for summer thunderstorms with crosswinds along the bay and the occasional deer near Susquehanna State Park at dusk. Avoid the narrow historic streets right around the Promenade in a big rig; use the larger Otsego Street or Revolution Street approaches instead.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Havre de Grace?
Local campgrounds make finding where to park an RV in Havre de Grace easy. Susquehanna State Park offers a limited number of electric hookup sites, shared water spigots, clean bathhouses with hot showers, fire rings, and a dump station near the campground entrance, all set in a quiet wooded loop above the river. Elk Neck State Park adds electric hookup sites and a camp store. Private parks like Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina include 30/50-amp electric, sewer, Wi-Fi, and a boat launch. To top off fresh water or dump tanks mid-trip, the Susquehanna State Park dump station is open during the camping season. Pick up firewood locally to comply with Maryland's pest-prevention rules.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/central/Susquehanna.aspxWhat is actually inside the RVs I can rent in Havre de Grace?

A typical motorhome rental in Havre de Grace sleeps four to seven, with a queen bed, convertible dinette, bathroom with toilet and shower, full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, three-burner propane stove), roof air conditioning, furnace, hot water heater, and seatbelted seats for everyone on board. Most hosts include a TV, and many offer Wi-Fi hotspots or generators as add-ons. Campervan rental in Havre de Grace (Class B) is the nimble pick for two, with compact kitchens and pop-tops. Each listing on RVezy shows exact sleep count, beds, amenities, and photos, so you can match the rig to your crew before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Havre%20de%20Grace,%20MarylandWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and mileage work?
Hosts in Havre de Grace offer popular add-ons that make trip planning effortless: linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), portable generators ($25 to $50 per night), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, kayaks for the Susquehanna Flats, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Harford County, with delivery available to nearby campgrounds and addresses for a per-mile fee. Mileage allowances vary by host (commonly 100 to 150 miles per night, with unlimited options available), and extra miles run about $0.30 to $0.50 each. All add-ons, mileage, and pickup details are listed clearly on each RVezy listing so there are no surprises at checkout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Havre%20de%20Grace,%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, and your funds are protected until your trip starts. The security deposit is a temporary hold (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig and trip length), authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid issues, do a walkthrough video at pickup and drop-off with your host, keep fuel and propane topped off as agreed, and follow the mileage policy on the listing. Everything is itemized on your booking page, so you always know exactly what is authorized and when it clears.
