Campgrounds near Lansdowne
Lansdowne sits just southwest of Baltimore inside the I-695 Beltway, putting RV travelers within a short drive of the Patapsco River corridor, the Inner Harbor, and the Washington, D.C. metro. The area works well as a base for combining city sightseeing with time in the woods, and most campgrounds within an hour's drive fall into two categories: public land run by Maryland State Parks or the National Park Service, and full-hookup private parks oriented toward D.C. visitors.
The closest public option is Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area, located along Route 40 (Baltimore National Pike) near the center of the park, home to the park headquarters and one of two campgrounds in the park. Farther south toward D.C., Greenbelt Park Campground offers 174 campground sites with hot showers and bathroom facilities, with reservations required.
Private options include Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, Cherry Hill Park in College Park, and Ramblin' Pines in Woodbine, all of which cater to RVs with hookups and family amenities.
Things to do near Lansdowne
Patapsco Valley State Park is the outdoor anchor for the area. The park offers varied recreation including hiking, fishing, canoeing, horseback trails and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking for individuals or large groups in the park's many pavilions available for rental. The Hollofield Area boasts one of the most stunning views of the Patapsco River Valley. The Overlook changes with every season from the brilliant greens of spring to the rich colors of fall.
Baltimore itself is roughly fifteen minutes north, with the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, Fort McHenry, and Camden Yards. Washington, D.C. is reachable by car or transit. Cherry Hill Park has its own bus depot where you can pick up city bus lines, taxis, and tour buses that travel into the heart of the capital, and Greenbelt Campground is an urban oasis just 10 miles from Washington, D.C., close to Metro service.
Family-friendly extras at Ramblin' Pines include a fishing pond, heated pool, and organized weekend activities.

Camping seasons in the Baltimore area split cleanly between public and private campgrounds. Maryland State Park campgrounds run on defined seasonal windows: the Hollofield Area operates seasonally from April through October, offering both electric and primitive sites. Note that the Hollofield Area Campground is not accepting reservations for the 2025 season due to a long-anticipated renovation, so confirm status before planning a trip built around that specific site.
Spring and fall bring the most comfortable temperatures for sightseeing in Baltimore and D.C., with cherry blossom season in late March through early April driving heavy demand at private parks close to the capital. Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but full-hookup parks with pools stay busy. October is popular for foliage and Halloween programming at private resorts, which fills quickly on weekends.
Winter camping is limited to year-round private parks and Greenbelt Campground, which is open year-round.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

How to book campgrounds near Lansdowne
Booking channels vary by operator. Reservations for campsites at Greenbelt Park must be made online at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. You can make a reservation up to six months in advance. Maryland State Park sites, including those in Patapsco Valley, are booked through the Maryland Park Service reservation portal at parkreservations.maryland.gov.
Private parks such as Cherry Hill Park, Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, and Ramblin' Pines take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For any trip tied to cherry blossoms, a holiday weekend, or a fall foliage weekend, book several months out.
Before reserving, confirm rig-length limits: there is an RV limit of 30 feet including tow vehicle in B Loop at Greenbelt and limited availability for larger vehicles up to 35 feet in D Loop.
What to expect
Expect a mix of forested public campgrounds and amenity-heavy private resorts, with some road and highway noise at almost every site given the metro location. Greenbelt does not have water or electric hookups and operates as a primitive campground, though the site contains flush toilets, drinking water, showers and a dump station. Plan for dry-camping practices there.
Private parks trade wooded seclusion for convenience. Cherry Hill Park offers 304 full-hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp service, cable TV, and rigs accepted to 45 feet on a big-rig-friendly layout, and road noise from nearby highways is noticeable throughout much of camp. Ticks are common in Mid-Atlantic woodlands in spring and summer, so pack repellent.
Access notes matter: campers with vehicles over 11'1" in height must enter Hollofield via the Route 40 East Entrance.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lansdowne, MD
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lansdowne, MD?
RV rental in Lansdowne is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Baltimore area and the Chesapeake. Expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers and campervans, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $350 for Class A coaches, with seasonal peaks around the Preakness Stakes in May and Fourth of July weekends on the Inner Harbor. To find a cheap RV rental Lansdowne travelers love, book midweek, target shoulder months like April or October, and use the price filter to sort by budget. Pro tip: stationary rentals, where the host parks the RV at a campground for you, are often the lowest-priced way to try RV camping near Baltimore.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lansdowne,MarylandWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lansdowne, Maryland?
Good news: for nearly every RV you can rent on RVezy in Lansdowne, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) only requires a noncommercial Class A or B license for motor homes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost every rental on the platform (Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most Class A coaches) falls under that limit. You'll need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to rent an RV in Maryland.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Lansdowne RV rental?
Yes, and that is a huge weight off your shoulders. Every motorhome rental in Lansdowne booked on RVezy automatically includes a protection package that covers most damage to the vehicle, plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on I-695 or need a jump start at Patapsco Valley State Park, help is one phone call away. You choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, picking the protection tier that matches your comfort level. It provides real financial peace of mind for your trip. Most first-time renters tell us this is the moment they finally hit Book.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
You are not locked in the second you book, breathe easy. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Lansdowne, MD, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out your trip is and whether something unexpected forces a change. The full policy lives in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: book early for Preakness or Artscape weekends, you can always review your options later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Lansdowne RV trip?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Lansdowne options, just flip on the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Many Patapsco Valley State Park areas welcome leashed dogs on trails (Avalon, Orange Grove, Glen Artney, McKeldin, and the Hollofield day-use and campground), though Hilton's campground and the Pickall area are pet-free, so plan accordingly. Locally, Lansdowne's Westport Dog Park and the wide-open fields at Patapsco's McKeldin Area are favorites for off-leash sniff sessions. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and ask for tips on securing your pup's crate while the RV is moving.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/central/patapsco.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Lansdowne?
Yes, RV delivery Lansdowne is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Baltimore traffic. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV directly to Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area, Bar Harbor RV Park in Abingdon, or even your own driveway in Lansdowne, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter when you search and enter your destination ZIP code to see exact delivery quotes. Pro tip: stationary delivery to a state park campsite turns your rental into a fully set-up basecamp before you arrive.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/central/patapsco.aspxHow do mileage limits work and can I get unlimited miles?
You have options. Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, and many Lansdowne listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with extra miles available at a small per-mile rate (typically $0.30 to $0.50). For longer adventures, search for RV rental with unlimited mileage listings, several Baltimore-area hosts offer them, especially for travel trailers. From Lansdowne you are about 30 miles to Annapolis, 40 miles to Washington, DC, 140 miles to Ocean City, and 55 miles to Gettysburg, so map your route first and pick a mileage plan that matches. Pro tip: message the host with your itinerary, many will bundle extra miles into your quote.

You've got fantastic options within 30 minutes of Lansdowne. Bar Harbor RV Park in Abingdon (40 minutes northeast) sits on the Bush River with full hookups and a boat ramp. Ramblin' Pines Family Campground in Woodbine (35 minutes west) is a full-service park with 200 sites, a pool, and mini-golf. For a DC-side option, Cherry Hill Park in College Park (30 minutes south) has full hookups and a DC Metro shuttle. Reserve Maryland State Parks up to 365 days ahead at parkreservations.maryland.gov.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/central/patapsco.aspxWhen is the best time of year for a Lansdowne RV trip?
Lansdowne shines from mid-April through late October, with the absolute sweet spot being May, June, September, and early October. Spring temperatures sit in the 60s to mid-70s Fahrenheit with blooming dogwoods, summer hits the upper 80s with humid 90-degree stretches in July and August, and fall brings crisp 50s-to-70s days with brilliant foliage along the Patapsco River. Winters are mild but variable (20s to 40s), so cold-weather rentals with furnace and heated tanks are available year-round. Pro tip: visit in mid-May for Preakness weekend in Baltimore, or late September for cooler hiking at Patapsco Valley State Park without the summer humidity.
weather.gov/lwx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Totally, first time renting an RV in Lansdowne is easier than people expect. Every host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, propane, water systems, leveling, slide-outs, and dumping, and many include a printed cheat sheet. You can message your host any time during the trip with questions, and RVezy support is available to help. If you are nervous about Baltimore Beltway (I-695) traffic, choose delivery so the RV arrives already set up at your campsite. Pro tip: start with a Class B campervan or a small Class C motorhome for your first trip, they drive more like a large SUV and fit easily in Patapsco Valley State Park wooded sites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003536173-For-rentersWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, covering flats, lockouts, jump starts, fuel delivery, and towing whether you are on I-95 outside Lansdowne, on Route 50 heading to Ocean City, or deep in Western Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. For mechanical or appliance issues such as a finicky fridge or AC, message your host directly through the RVezy app, most respond quickly and can talk you through quick fixes. If a bigger problem grounds the trip, RVezy support steps in to coordinate next steps. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the host driveway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best road trips from Lansdowne, MD?
An RV road trip from Lansdowne puts some of the East Coast best destinations within a half-day drive. Head about 40 miles south to Washington, DC for monuments and museums (camp at Cherry Hill Park), 140 miles southeast to Assateague Island for wild horses and Atlantic beaches, 55 miles north to Gettysburg National Military Park, 180 miles west to Deep Creek Lake in the Appalachians, or 120 miles south to Shenandoah National Park Skyline Drive. Cross-border travel into Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and West Virginia is allowed on most RVezy rentals, but travel to Mexico is not covered. Pro tip: October foliage on Skyline Drive is one of the best motorhome rides on the East Coast.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lansdowne RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Maryland gas prices typically run around $3.20 to $3.70 per gallon, with diesel slightly higher. Campervans get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches deliver 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 300-mile round trip from Lansdowne to Assateague Island in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Costco in Glen Burnie or the Royal Farms on Hammonds Ferry Road before you leave town, both consistently beat highway prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lansdowne?
Book early and you'll have your pick of the best sites. Maryland State Parks (including Patapsco Valley, Cunningham Falls, and Assateague) open reservations up to 365 days in advance through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and electric sites at Patapsco's Hollofield Area routinely sell out for summer weekends 4 to 6 months ahead. Private parks like Ramblin' Pines and Cherry Hill Park typically book 2 to 3 months out for peak weekends, less for weekdays. For Assateague State Park in summer, set a reminder for exactly one year before your target date. Pro tip: weekday arrivals open up far more options and often score you the riverside sites at Patapsco.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What's it like driving an RV around Lansdowne and Baltimore?
Most of your driving will be comfortable, the trick is knowing what to avoid. Lansdowne sits just off the I-695 Baltimore Beltway and I-95, both RV-friendly, and Route 1 (Washington Boulevard) gives you a calmer alternative. Avoid the Harbor Tunnel (I-895) and the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95 southbound) with propane on board, propane vehicles must use the Key Bridge Beltway crossing instead. Inner Harbor and Fells Point streets are too tight for big rigs, so park at Cherry Hill Park or Patapsco and take light rail or rideshare in. Pro tip: choose RV delivery to your campsite if Baltimore traffic isn't your idea of vacation.
mdta.maryland.gov/Toll_Facilities/HazMat.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lansdowne?
Local campgrounds make RV camping Lansdowne easy. Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area offers 30-amp electric sites, water spigots, a dump station, hot showers, flush toilets, and a camp store nearby in Ellicott City. Bar Harbor RV Park and Ramblin' Pines provide full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Cherry Hill Park adds cable TV and a dog park. For freshwater fills and dump stations between trips, the Hollofield dump station is open seasonally to non-campers for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 4-in-1 sewer adapter, and a 30-to-50-amp dogbone, those three items cover 95% of Maryland hookup situations.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/central/patapsco.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Lansdowne?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped these rentals are. Most Lansdowne RVs sleep 4 to 8 people across a queen bed, bunks, and convertible dinettes, with a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a furnace for cooler nights, and ample seatbelts for travel days. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, awning, and onboard generator or solar for off-grid camping. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a hotspot as an add-on, but Verizon and T-Mobile coverage is strong throughout central Maryland. Pro tip: check the listing photos for outdoor kitchens, they're a game-changer for family RV trip Lansdowne crews who cook a lot.
fcc.gov/BroadbandData/MobileMaps/mobile-mapWhat add-ons can I get, and how does pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons in Lansdowne include linen and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camping chairs and tables, bikes, kayaks, generators, extra propane, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host home in or near Lansdowne, with a 60-to-90-minute walkthrough covering every system, or you can pay for delivery to your campsite. Drop-off times typically mirror pickup, and many hosts offer late-return or early-pickup windows if their calendar allows. Mileage policies and generator-hour limits are listed clearly on every listing. Pro tip: book linens and a kitchen kit on your first trip, you will thank yourself when you are not hunting for a corkscrew in Catonsville.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038087794-Add-ons-and-feesHow does the security deposit and payment work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at booking, your trip total covers the nightly rate, service fee, chosen protection package, and any host add-ons. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos and videos of the RV inside and out at both pickup and return, and report any pre-existing dings during the walkthrough. Pro tip: dump tanks, refill propane, and refuel before returning to skip the most common deposit deductions.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take a Lansdowne RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, and that is where the fun begins. Most RVezy hosts in Lansdowne allow travel throughout the continental United States, so you can roll into Pennsylvania for Gettysburg, Virginia for Shenandoah, Delaware for Rehoboth Beach, or West Virginia for Harpers Ferry without an issue. Canada trips may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, message the host directly from the listing page to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Lansdowne is the 5-day loop south through Shenandoah, west to the New River Gorge, and back via Deep Creek Lake.
