Campgrounds near Parkville, Maryland
Parkville sits just northeast of Baltimore in central Maryland, putting RV travelers within a short drive of state park camping, waterfront RV resorts on the upper Chesapeake Bay, and full-hookup parks positioned for day trips to Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. The immediate area is suburban, so most campgrounds are 20 to 60 minutes out along the I-95, I-695, and I-83 corridors.
The closest public option is Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area, which has 73 campsites, some with electric hookups, off Route 40 in Ellicott City. The Hollofield area campground is currently closed for renovations, so travelers should verify current status before planning around it. For waterfront RV camping, Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina sits on an 8-acre waterfront peninsula along the Bush River, offering 91 sites with full hookups (water, electric, sewer, and cable TV) for RVs up to 45 feet.
Further out, Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville serves as a base for D.C. sightseeing, Merry Meadows Recreation Farm sits in the countryside near the Pennsylvania line, and Bay Shore Campground offers Chesapeake Bay views from the Eastern Shore.
Things to do near Parkville
Patapsco Valley State Park has an extensive trail network, with 70 miles of hiking, biking, and multi-use trails accessible directly from the campground, and the Patapsco River runs through the park for paddling and fishing. The park spans 32 miles along the Patapsco River with eight different recreation areas, so day trips from any nearby campground work well.
Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and the Maryland Science Center are all within easy reach. Families basing at the KOA can reach the National Mall, the Capitol, Smithsonian museums, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and Baltimore's Inner Harbor from one location.
On the water, Bar Harbor offers boat and kayak rentals, boat slips, a dedicated boat ramp, an outdoor swimming pool, a playground, a nature trail, and a game room. Bay Shore has fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, with frequent bald eagle sightings around the upper bay.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel in central Maryland. Days warm through March and April, wildflowers move up the Patapsco Valley, and campgrounds reopen after winter maintenance. Fall brings cooler nights and strong leaf color along the river valleys through October into early November.
Summer is peak season, with hot, humid days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy demand at family-oriented parks. Waterfront sites at Bar Harbor and Bay Shore book up early for holiday weekends, and the KOA pool operates on a seasonal schedule. The Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday pool is open May 22 to September 7. Reserve well in advance for Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Bar Harbor operates as a year-round campground, and the Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday runs year-round as a DC base camp, though full-hookup availability is reduced in the coldest months. Patapsco Valley state park loops and many private parks scale down amenities or close entirely from late fall into March.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

How to book campgrounds near Parkville
Maryland state park campsites, including the Patapsco Valley areas, are handled through the state's central reservation system. Reservations for Hollofield Campground can be made through the Maryland Park Service reservation system, and the campground is popular and tends to fill up during peak seasons, so booking well in advance is recommended. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 365 days in advance. Note that Hollofield is currently closed for renovations, so check status before planning.
Private parks use their own systems. The Washington DC / Capitol KOA books online through koa.com or by phone, and RV and tent sites require 7 days cancellation notice, called in to the campground by 4 p.m. seven days before arrival. Bar Harbor, Merry Meadows, and Bay Shore accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone; deposits and cancellation windows vary by park, so confirm terms at booking.
For holiday weekends, target a booking window of six to twelve weeks out for private parks and even earlier for popular state-park loops.
What to expect at Parkville-area campgrounds
Expect a mix of wooded suburban state park sites and full-service private RV parks. Hollofield offers a wooded and secluded feel despite proximity to urban areas, and its campsites are arranged in two concentric circles that tend to be closer together but still provide a sense of privacy thanks to surrounding trees. Campers whose units are over 11 feet 1 inch in height must enter the park by the Route 40 East Entrance.
Private parks generally offer full hookups, laundry, camp stores, and Wi-Fi. Bar Harbor accommodates large rigs with pull-through sites and full hookups including water, electric, sewer, and cable TV for RVs up to 45 feet. KOA RV sites accommodate rigs up to 70 feet.
Cell coverage is generally strong across the region. Traffic on I-95 and the Baltimore Beltway can slow arrivals on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, so plan check-ins accordingly.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Parkville, MD
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Parkville, MD?
RV rental in Parkville, MD is more affordable than you might expect, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically ranging from $175 to $300 per night. Because hosts on RVezy are local owners (not a big corporate fleet), you get competitive pricing and personal service. To find a cheap RV rental in Parkville, try midweek dates, book outside the peak Memorial Day to Labor Day window, and consider a travel trailer with delivery rather than a drivable motorhome. Pro tip: Baltimore Orioles home games and Preakness weekend (third Saturday in May) drive up demand fast, so lock in early if your trip overlaps those dates.
visitmaryland.org/things-to-do/outdoor-recreation/campingDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Parkville, Maryland?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Parkville, Maryland. The state of Maryland does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking, so there's no paperwork to mail or office to visit. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward it is, even with a 30-foot Class C.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/license-classes.aspxWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Parkville?
Every RV rental in Parkville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. You select your protection plan during checkout, with multiple tiers available so you can match coverage to your trip. Plans help cover physical damage to the RV during your rental, and roadside assistance is included with every plan. Pro tip: review the plan details on the RVezy Help Center before checkout so you can pick the tier that fits your route, whether it is a quick weekend at Elk Neck State Park or a longer Parkville RV trip up the Northeast corridor.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Parkville RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Parkville, MD is low-risk thanks to RVezy's cancellation policy, which is set by RVezy (not by individual hosts), so the experience is consistent no matter which listing you choose. The policy includes a grace period after booking and factors like how close you are to your trip start date. Full details are published on the RVezy Help Center so you can review them before you confirm. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy works with you on a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: Maryland summers can bring tropical storm remnants up the Chesapeake, so booking early gives you flexibility while you watch the forecast for trips to Assateague or Deep Creek Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Parkville?
Absolutely, and Parkville is a great launchpad for a dog-friendly getaway. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Parkville, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see listings from hosts who welcome four-legged guests (sometimes with a small pet fee). Nearby, Gunpowder Falls State Park has miles of leashed-dog trails just minutes north, and Patapsco Valley State Park allows pets in most day-use and many camping areas. Assateague State Park (the Maryland state side) allows leashed pets in the campground, while the National Park Service side has stricter restrictions. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet details, and pack a collapsible water bowl for humid Chesapeake afternoons.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/Pets-in-Parks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in Parkville?
Yes, RV delivery in Parkville is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the RV right to your home, campground, or even Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) for a flat fee, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into a tight site, and no learning curve in a parking lot. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it. Pro tip: delivery is especially popular for trips to Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina or Elk Neck State Park, where the host can pre-set everything before you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parkville%2C%20MarylandHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Parkville?
Plenty far, and Parkville's location just off Interstate 695 makes it an excellent base for an RV road trip from Parkville in almost any direction. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, with many offering generous daily allowances and some listing RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. Popular drives from Parkville include Ocean City, MD (about 140 miles east), Gettysburg, PA (about 52 miles north), Shenandoah National Park (about 130 miles southwest), and Assateague Island (about 130 miles southeast). Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger loop like Parkville to the Outer Banks or up to Acadia, sort listings by mileage allowance first and message the host to confirm your route works.
fhwa.dot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Parkville, MD?
You are spoiled for choice with RV camping near Parkville, MD. Within about an hour you will find Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon (waterfront sites on the Bush River with full hookups and easy I-95 access), Patapsco Valley State Park (wooded sites southwest of Parkville with electric hookups at the Hilton and Hollofield areas), Elk Neck State Park near North East (large Chesapeake-side campground about 45 minutes away), Ramblin' Pines Family Campground in Woodbine (resort-style with pool, about 40 minutes west), and Duncan's Family Campground in Lothian (full hookups south of Baltimore). Pro tip: Maryland State Parks book up fast on summer weekends, so reserve as soon as the rolling 12-month window opens on the official Maryland Park Reservation portal.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/When is the best time to visit Parkville for an RV trip?
For an RV trip from Parkville, the sweet spot runs from mid-April through late June and again from early September through late October, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s to low 80s°F and humidity drops. July and August are warm (mid-80s to low 90s) and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but they're prime time for Chesapeake Bay swimming and Ocean City boardwalk trips. Winters dip into the 30s and occasional snow is possible, but many hosts still rent year-round. Pro tip: fall is the local insider's favorite — the foliage on Skyline Drive and along the Susquehanna peaks mid to late October, and campgrounds are noticeably less crowded after Labor Day.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work?
First time renting an RV? You're going to do great, especially in Parkville where hosts are known for thorough orientations. After you book on RVezy, you'll message your host to coordinate pickup or delivery. At handoff, the host walks you through everything: how to drive it, level it, run the generator, dump the tanks, and operate the awning, fridge, and AC. Most walkthroughs take 45 to 60 minutes, and you can text the host throughout your trip with questions. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: for your first Parkville RV rental, choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer with delivery, and ease in with a two-night stay at Patapsco Valley State Park before tackling anything bigger.
nps.gov/subjects/camping/rv-camping.htmWhat happens if I break down during my Parkville RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on I-95, a dead battery at Bar Harbor RV Park, or a warning light near the Bay Bridge, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also typically just a text away and knows the RV inside and out, which often solves small issues in minutes. Maryland has dense service coverage along the I-695 and I-95 corridors, so wait times are usually short. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway, and note your nearest mile marker if you do pull over.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a Parkville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Parkville. Most hosts welcome trips throughout the continental U.S., including popular routes to Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey, all within a few hours' drive. Cross-border travel to Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection package you select, so message the host directly to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a classic week-long loop from Parkville hits Gettysburg, Hershey, and Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, then loops back through the Eastern Shore — all without leaving the Mid-Atlantic.
cbp.gov/travelHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Parkville?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to estimate. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers tow at 10 to 14 MPG depending on the truck, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG. Maryland gas prices generally sit close to the national average, with diesel running a bit higher. For a 300-mile weekend round trip to Assateague in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: gas in Maryland is often cheaper than in neighboring Pennsylvania and Delaware along the I-95 corridor, so fill up before crossing the line, and use Costco off Joppa Road or Sam's Club in White Marsh for the best local prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Parkville?
For the best campgrounds near Parkville, book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Maryland State Parks (Patapsco Valley, Gunpowder Falls, Elk Neck, Assateague) open reservations 12 months in advance through the state's official reservation portal, and prime waterfront and electric sites at Assateague and Elk Neck often go within days. Private parks like Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina and Ramblin' Pines typically take bookings 6 to 12 months out. Federal sites at Greenbelt Park and Catoctin Mountain Park use Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Pro tip: for a Memorial Day, July 4th, or Preakness weekend trip, set a calendar reminder for exactly 12 months prior at 7 a.m. Eastern.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Parkville for an RV?
Parkville sits just inside the I-695 Baltimore Beltway, so driving an RV here is very manageable once you know the rhythm. Stick to the outer lanes on I-695 and I-95, avoid weekday rush hours (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.), and note that RVs carrying propane are restricted from the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) and the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). The standard propane-carrying route around Baltimore is now I-695, though travelers should check Maryland Transportation Authority updates because the Francis Scott Key Bridge is being rebuilt. Harford Road through Parkville itself is straightforward. Pro tip: ask your host for delivery to your campground if you are nervous about Baltimore traffic, it is a popular Parkville solution.
mdta.maryland.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Parkville?
Campgrounds around Parkville cover the full spectrum. Private parks like Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina and Ramblin' Pines offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. Maryland State Parks like Patapsco Valley and Elk Neck typically offer electric and water hookups with central dump stations and bathhouses with hot showers, but no sewer at the site. Most parks have potable water fill stations near the entrance and clearly marked dump stations. Pro tip: if you're staying at a state park without sewer hookups, you can dump on your way home at the Bar Harbor area or at most KOAs along I-95 for a small fee, making the logistics simple even for a first-timer.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/camping.aspxWhat's actually inside a typical Parkville RV rental?
More than you'd think. A typical motorhome rental in Parkville comes fully equipped with sleeping for 4 to 8 (a mix of bedroom, convertible dinette, and bunk or cab-over beds), a kitchen with a propane stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Most have roof air conditioning, a furnace, a TV, and an onboard generator or solar setup. Many hosts include linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and a starter kit of toilet paper and tank treatment. Seatbelts are provided for travel, and you'll find shore-power hookups for campground use. Pro tip: each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included, so filter by sleeps count and amenities to match your group before you book.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons can I get with a Parkville RV rental?
Plenty, and the right add-ons can make your trip noticeably easier. Common options on a motorhome rental in Parkville include delivery and setup, generator hours, linen and kitchen packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, propane refills, sani-dump service at return, and pet cleaning fees for pet-friendly RV rental in Parkville. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Baltimore area, with drop-off at the same location, though many hosts offer delivery to BWI airport or directly to your campground. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances commonly between 100 and 200 miles per day plus unlimited options on some listings. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a return dump service is the secret weapon for stress-free first-time renters.
fmcsa.dot.gov/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host in cash. Your total includes the nightly rate, any add-ons (delivery, mileage, generator, etc.), the renter protection plan you select, and applicable taxes. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment and is held as a pre-authorization, then released after your trip ends assuming no damage or policy issues. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and drop-off, it takes two minutes, documents the RV's condition, and is the single best way to ensure your security deposit is released quickly and in full.
